Week 12 | Browns @ Bengals

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like how everyone still isn’t satisfied after kicking the Falcons and Bengals ass. I get the frustration of going conservative, but it was a 4 TD lead. Going all aggressive all game could lead to a big time injury, especially if Cincy decides to go rogue on us.
Burfict for example.

I am fine with the offense going conservative if the defense doesn't do it too, because Williams' conservative scheme is absolute dog shit and insanely easy to beat. He leaves a massive ten yard bubble in the middle of the field and teams can just march downfield. Yeah, it eats time, but a better team could have come back and beat us there the way we took the foot off the gas.

It's about establishing a winning mentality. I think all of us are fine with us winning, but you can't handcuff your team.

There's a reason why teams like the Patriots go to the playoffs every single year. They know how to rip the hearts out of their opponents. It's a new process for us.

But to think that kind of football is OKAY when we become good, well, its not.

Teams make runs in this league. And if the Bengals were good it might have back fired even.

This plus penalties really changed the momentum in the game

i think a combination of,
-browns defense holding punches after almost killing a man (pretty sure i saw ward? gently cradle a wr to the ground after an incompletion, myles didn't explode Driskell into particle matter), it was also a long kinda morbid pause in the game, a boner melter
-protecting baker (cbbi already said as much) and just getting the win, regardless of by how many points
-bailout penalties made a perceived shift in momentum (as you said)

awesome game tho!
really thrashed them

we got a QB

fun times ahead

Pretty sure a 28 point lead has only been blown 3 times in NFL history.
With all the other random Browns stats out there, would not shock me if 2 of those 3 times were Cleveland.

We are the exception to every rule.

Not saying conservative is bad and that we have to throw it on every down. However, you have to maintain some balance on offense to sustain drives.

It’s not that we were required to score again up 35-7. Rather, we needed to not go 3 and out by predictably running 3 straight times from the I.

Houston Oilers, Kansas City and New Orleans. Browns worst is 23 points, 1991 vs Eagles

I almost feel we should stay aggressive not in the sense of trying to run up the score, but staying in rhythm and just not letting the opponent get back up when they are down on the ground. Keep the offense going in the rhythm created earlier in the game and just keep after the opponent.

By my count, other than the short drive after the fumble at the beginning of the third quarter, we ran the ball on every single first down, and every single second down except one, during the second half. The whole "run, run, pass" offense.

And they still won by 15. And it never got closer than 15. And Mayfield got touched one time in the 2nd half against a defense widely known for cheap shots and dirty play.

The game was in control. They went into a shell because it was the safest and least risky thing to do.

Not so sure about that - the run, run, pass offense is very predictable, which gives them more of a shot at teeing off on someone. In fact, the one time Baker was sacked (though it was negated by a penalty) was in the second half after we went into that offensive shell.

Yes, we won by two touchdowns - but we were one play and an onside kick away from potentially losing that game.

I don't have an issue with going into an offensive shell where appropriate. I do have a problem thinking you can safely get away with it for an entire half.

Don't really disagree, as I thought we let off the gas a bit too early, but we still won by two scores, so hard to complain too much.

All I know is that, if I had to choose between Williams/Kitchens and Mike McCarthy, I'll roll the dice with Williams and Kitchens, because at least Williams is smart enough to let Kitchens build the offense around the personnel and stay the fuck out of the way.
