Week 3 (9/27): Raiders (1-1) @ Browns (1-1) [1:00 PM EST, CBS]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Marlins by a mile... The way that franchise is run should be criminal.

The offense throws with a semi-capable QB under center, and the backup is limited to 15 passing attempts, which shows a willingness to adapt personnel to mask their weaknesses. We were dismantled by the Jets, but considering that was a game where we lost our starting QB in his first drive and had 5 turnovers, that's to be expected.

We had a winning game plan against Tennessee, and we were driving to tie the game in the final minute against Oakland. Again, we aren't a good team. I don't understand how fans who have seen an organization rotate HCs every 2 years and fail to improve seem to think that the solution is to rotate the HC again.

Here's an idea: Talk to your coaching staff, find out what system they want to run and what personnel they need to execute said system at a high level, and then give them the fucking personnel they need to execute said plan. The answer is to stop trying to win a superbowl every year, and finally accept that the team is in rough shape and begin building something with some consistent design.

I agree with you that continuing to switch HCs is a recipe for disaster. The bigger problem is that we continue to switch FOs and they want their own HC. Mangini was a casualty of that. Chud is probably the most frustrating because although we fell a part at the end of the year I was intrigued by him and his staff.

You do need to make a switch when guys prove to be poop though. Romeo had plenty of time for that. So did Schumer. Pettine seems to be rapidly approaching that place too, although I wouldn't have a problem giving him another full year to work with a hopefully improved roster if the team shows some signs of life the rest of the year.

Browns are being laughed at nationally more than ever right now.

Johnny wrecked the league last week. Poking fun but it was a W.

Johnny back to being #2.

Lose to Oakland and still plan on starting McCown.

Manziel deserves a year of being developed, or fail.

It does nothing to Cleveland in a lose-lose situation. They'll suck regardless.

At least you get a season of a QB you drafted in the 1st round over the likes of Teddy, Carr.

Cleveland Browns are a backwards ass organization and its a disgrace to the fans who have to sell that place out.

Josh McCown, give me a break.

let me make this very clear. i live in baltimore, i hear about the ravens and from ravens fans daily. everyone here thinks manziel is the joke, an absolute and total joke. so when i hear browns fans begging for manziel, they are the ONLY ones around this country that think he can play in the NFL. I had someone in the office last week ask if i thought because of his performance last week, the browns would keep him on the rest of the season, or still just cut him.

no one, other than browns fans think manziel is worth a shit

Manziel has more wins than the ravens this season. Yeah I think perhaps your ravens buddies should be more focused on their 0-3 start

Nobody deserves it more than a 35 year old average Joe that's been a journeymen his whole career and realistically is nothing better than a backup QB. Let's just be thankful he didn't start vs Tennessee or we'd be 0-3.

We are also 24th in rushing and the O line has given up 10 sacks in 3 games. Yesterday 3 of the 4 first rounders over the last 18 months were not even good enough to make it on to the field. Orchard, last years second rounder has made a total of one tackle in two games with zero QB pressures.

How did our lasts 2 drafts perform yesterday?

Because the Raiders looked amazing

Here's the first 4 rounds:

2015

Danny Shelton - 44 plays, 1 tackle
Cameron Irving - 2 plays, a backup as a 1st round OL
Nate Orchard - 20 plays, 1 tackle
Duke Johnson - 40 plays, 4 carries, 3 yards, 6 catches, 32 yards
Xavier Cooper - 30 plays, 1 tackle.
Ibraheim Campbell - No defensive snaps. Not sure if he was on ST.
Vince Mayle - Not on team

2014

Justin Gilbert - DNP
Johnny Manziel - DNP
Joel Bitonio - 75 plays, always solid
Christian Kirksey - 44 plays, 2 tackles (Can't cover slots)
Terrance West - Not on team
Pierre Desir - 29 plays, 2 tackles, 1 PDEF (Lots of good clapping highlights)

46 total plays from 4 first round picks. Bitonio is the only player on this list that consistently does anything and the OL was shit yesterday.

Only 8 of 13 picks even played, just 3 of those 8 played half the plays available to them (Bitonio, Johnson, Shelton). None of those 3 guys made any impactful plays though.

The first 4 rounds of 2013 isn't even worth listing, if any one is wondering.

I really wish Erving would get the chance to play. I'm sure b00bie will pull up some PFF numbers to say otherwise, but my eyes tell me that Grecco and Shwartz are shit. They can't get a push to save their lives and get destroyed on pass pro all the time.

Greco was +2.2, Schwartz +0.5 yesterday.

Schwartz allowed 1 sack/hurry/hit.

Greco allowed 1 hit.

Not a wholly terrible day for Schwartz when you're going up against should-have-been Browns linebacker Khalil Mack.

Haha, see I knew it.

Do you have the rest of the line's ratings?

+2.2 seems like a trend upward for Grecco because I remember you posting last week I think that the interior was sucking ass the first couple games.

Posted offense/defense in the Reg. Season thread.

The same fanbase convinced that Kyle Boller was good thinks Manziel is bad?

Point in our favor.

I honestly don't see any justification for firing Pettine.

Don't really think this team is as bad as some on here do. At least not to the point where they can't begin to win if they're able to figure out the QB position.

That's only because his replacement might be as bad, if not worse. No one worth their weight will come here.

But it has nothing to do with him being a good head coach. I think he's pretty terrible in that department.

We're always going to be in the boat of needing to have substantial talent to finally justify firing our head coach, and being able to maybe hire someone worth their weight. But for now and going forward at the moment, we are stuck with the Mike Pettine's of the world. We better get used to it.

We are in this spot because we continually blow things up after 2 years (1 in the case of Chudzinksi). We CAN'T keep doing that. We have to hire the right people, believe in them, give them the freedom to do their jobs and stick with them through the bad times not just the good.

Personally, from the outside looking in, I like Pettine. I think he's got a long career as a head coach in this league. I hope the Browns stick with him for a long time. Farmer is on the hot seat, that is for sure. I've defended him because he does seem to find good value in the later rounds, which is wonderful to have. However; it seems to be at the expense of the top of the draft. Still, I think we have to keep Farmer through another draft and let these guys mature. See what they do the rest of the year, see who he brings in next draft and lets see if his plan, works.

Gilbert looked to be a good pick but man, he's the epitome of a Cleveland Browns top 10 draft pick. Words can't describe the disappointment thus far.

Manziel was simply foolish and that's on Farmer. He either thought he'd be good or he didn't have the stones to tell Haslam he was the wrong pick. Either scenario does not make him look good.

Terrance West: He obviously was a target for the Browns coming into the draft since they moved up to get him. I don't get bent out of shape on draft misses from the 3rd round on but this is a particularly bad one because we used a lot of draft assets to get him then we essentially cut him a year later.

Shelton I was all for this year so I'm on the same page with Farmer there.

I wasn't thrilled with the idea of taking an interior offensive lineman in the 1st round, especially for a team lacking any kind of play makers and having duplicate talent at the WR position (Short, shifty, speedy, RAC guys). Maybe he will be good, I don't know, I have my doubts but I'm willing to give the guy a chance.

Orchard I've never really been sold on. Incredible production, mature person but physically he's outclassed. He reminds me of Jarvis Jones a few years ago in that they both had tremendous college production despite having less than desirable athletic gifts. Jones has been a JAG. I fear that will be Orchard as well.
