Here are the 6-8 picks the last 3 years drafts: 15' Willey Caley Stein, Emmanuel Mudiay, Stanley Johnson. 16' Buddy Heild, Jamal Murray, Marquese Chriss. 17' John Isaac, Lauri Markkanen, Frank Ntilinka.
With that said lets not act like this pick is a sure-fire star. Even if this hyped class is as advertised, Lebron will be long gone by the time the pick is a star, IF he is a star. Funny how i wouldn't take any of these guys over Cousins yet so many of you think this pick is gold. I would take Cousins over all of those guys combined. WIN NOW. TRADE THE PICK!

You also ignored a lot of good players/prospects drafted in the 9-12 range. Malik Monk and Dennis Smith Jr for example...both total blue chip prospects.

The pick is a great asset and Cousins doesn't even necessarily help us win now. I could argue easily that he doesnt fit next to Love, isn't as good as Love and would cause more problems than solutions if added mid-season.

Cousins this summer via S&T or opt in and trade /extend (if he even has one)..

I could be convinced to get him in that case , if the pick is not top 5 and LeBron commits and says he wants him..

Even if Brooklyn is the 5/6/7th worst team around the deadline...The top 3-4 guys in this draft are such elite prospects...the pick is a super valuable lottery ticket if it has a realistic chance to jump up into the top 3...

If we trade the pick for Cousins in February, struggle to integrate, lose badly against GS, and that pick ends up drafting Michael Porter or Bagley or Luka Doncic... it could end up costing Altman his job and have 15 years of dire consequences for this franchise...

Most important of all: Dan Gilbert is flat out not going to trade the pick without a LeBron commitment..and we all know LeBron is going to go into free agency...I think he stays but he's going to decide that in July, not February...debate over...Dans not letting that pick go for a 3 month Cousins rental .

I agree with Dan wholeheartedly on this. Even if LeBron is willing to commit, I see very few candidates available worthy of that pick this season. Maybe we'll be surprised at who hits the block, but I'm not that big of a fan of Boogie. Especially given his contract situation--and he's the only one I can think of that is in the ballpark. George now won't be traded, neither will Paul. Is there a chance Lillard becomes available? Probably not. He'd be a guy I'd be willing to deal it for. It's slim pickin's on this one, I'm afraid.

I think the responsible thing to do is hold the pick, wait for the record/lottery, and take the best player available at that spot in the draft. Then, don't sign the player until the LeBron decision is sorted out. I'm talking "signed on the dotted line" sorted out.

Monk and Smith Jr. might be Blue Chip but not better than what Cousins could do for us this and next year. I failed to mention my entire point which is that this might be the last year Cavs can contend, maybe one more season after this at most. I guess I just don't care if the Cavs are an 8 or 12 seed in 2021, because they will not be contenders for another 50 years. Might as well go for another title now other than looking hindsight saying that we should have tried to win. Let me ask you, for the next 5 years would you rather have 1 (slight chance at 2) more championship followed by 3 30 win seasons OR 1 more Finals loss followed by 4 40-45 win seasons? You know what I think and that is how i see this. A GREAT Top 7 pick might get you 10-15 more wins but even that is sort of unrealistic.

Cousins is a FA immediately after this season.

The point being, even with things looking positive, there is still some risk that LeBron could exercise his right to leave via FA in the summer. If he does that, do you really think Cousins, who will also be a FA, is going to stick around?

The other point is that even if the Nets end up in the 5-8 slot of lottery, because the pick is unprotected, if it jumps up into the top 3, as happened for a pick in the 4-8 range 15 times in the past 11 drafts(15 jumps out of 55 picks in the 4-8 range over 11 years), than the pick is ours.

That's part of what makes it so valuable to us and valuable as a trade piece. But Dan, understandably, has concerns about moving the pick/player selected with the pick until LeBron makes his decision, which will not occur until July. It makes trading that pick for a player with just one year left on his deal, like Cousins, very risky. The potential, however modest or small, of being in position to take a Bagley, Porter, or Doncic also makes a trade involving that pick for a player with just one year left on his deal very risky.

We also picked Anthony Bennett number 1 overall, there is never a sure fire bet at any pick.

But number 6 or 7 for a championship contender is quite a nice pick though.

this stuff about Cousins not being a good fit...if he has his head on straight he's talented enough to be a good fit anywhere.

You're comfortable with a Love/Cousins front court against the Warriors ?

Because I sure as hell am not.

I think getting Cousins forces you to have to then deal Love and that's a trade you're going to lose.

And that's also a HUGE if..

Are you really willing to risk the next ten years over DeMarcus?

If you're going to probably lose to GS either way, I'd rather let our current roster have a shot at it and then have a big asset to use to keep Bron

If you get Cousins and still lose...you're in a rough spot.

Now that camp has ended, I just don't see the point in trading the pick right now. I'd wait until midseason, if a can't-miss guy becomes available, then you engage; if not, hold it until the summer.

The Brooklyn pick is either going to gain/lose value now that the season is about to start, and whatever direction that goes, it is completely out of the Cavs' control.

I doubt Cousins is the best guy available at the deadline. And frankly, if he is, it is probably worth not trading it.

Realistic worst case scenario is that the Magic, Bulls, Lakers, Hawks, Knicks, Sixers, Pacers, and Kings are all worse teams than the Nets. I think the Sixers (if healthy) and Pacers can pull off more wins, but not sure about the rest...

I hope people go look at the Magic's additions they made this summer and roster as a whole when they keep mentioning them. That team, with one of the better defensive coaches in the NBA, is going to surprise people, especially in an even weaker Eastern Conference.

Payton/Augustin/Mack
Fournier/Simmons
Ross/Hezonja/Afflalo
Gordon/Speights/Isaac
Vucevic/Biyombo

You can't even begin to convince me that that group right there is as bad as the Nets, under Frank Vogel.

Same with the Kings, who managed to stay relatively the same statistically after the Cousins trade and Gay injury, and who added George Hill, Zach Randolph, and Vince Carter on top of their 3 1st round picks.

Still think the only teams to worry about are the Bulls, Knicks, and Suns...if Schroeder is suspended, I'll worry about the Hawks, but that team continues to overachieve with Budenholzer's regular season system.

Well guys it all starts tonight...lets hope for a Big L for then nets,,,,the first of Many!!
Huh?

Yeah, this team is going to give up a ton of points with how fast they want to play.

Nets dont look like a playoff team but not necessarily worst team in league
