I know you’ve been higher on Young than most. What are your thoughts on his recent struggles? And how do you think he would fit in our offense?
My "big board" is very fluid after Doncic/Jackson at the top. Right now I'd probably have Young in the 5-6 range, and I'm open to moving him up or down depending on how he plays for the rest of the season.
While he's struggled shooting the ball from deep, he's still producing well offensively in other areas. He's still on pace to finish the season as the all-time freshman leader in free throws, and could very well end up the all-time freshman leader in assists too. That's not a fluke, and those are skills that should translate to the NBA.
On the Cavs, hypothetically, I think he'd have a gravity offensively similar to what Kyrie had (though I realize their games are very different). He'll continue to draw double teams and drag defenders out beyond the 3-point line, and unlike at OU, he'll have teammates who are very capable of taking advantage when he gets the defense scrambling.
Of course, the Cavs offense is already great, so it'd be risky to add him on the grounds of "if it ain't broke don't fix it." On the other end, Cavs are still a leaky ship on defense and they can hardly afford to punch another hole in the hull. So while I might have him 5-6 overall on my big board, if I'm the Cavs, I probably wouldn't take him any higher than 7 or so and I'd probably look to trade him in that case.
