Theoretically Ante Zizic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What do you think about Jackson's rebounding?

I see it as one of his few serious questionmarks, which is why at least at a basic level a stout rebounder and post defender like Zizic would be a natural fit next to him.

Even as a Zizic fan, I'm not entirely opposed to trading him. He's not a great fit here, at least at the moment, but he would be a good fit on many other rebuilding teams. In Memphis, for instance, he could learn from one of the great modern centers in Marc Gasol, and long-term he would appear to be an excellent fit next to their other young big Jaren Jackson. If a team like that is interested in trading for him, we should be all ears.

Based on how they have played over the past decade, sure that makes sense. It's definitely possible they could see that as a good fit. It's also possible they could be "pivoting" the way of the majority of the NBA and envision Jackson as the modern center of the future(after some mentoring from Gasol and some lean bulking up) and want a more athletic PF or small ball PF next to Jackson. Only Memphis can answer that.

Certainly I would trade Zizic to a team that valued him for immediate use and gave us something we wanted in return but I certainly do think we owe him a trade simply because he hasn't been giving a rotation spot 13 months into his NBA career.

How many minutes do you want TT to play?

I'd prefer zero.

But for multiple reasons I don't see that as a possible reality early on.

I think the best case is that he plays tough, rebounds well, screens well, and keeps up a high FG%. If he does that, after all the FA money is spent leaguewide in summer of 2019, I think there will be a few teams willing to deal for him and the last year of his deal to help with what that teams perceives as a weakness(offensive rebounding, playoff experience)

To trade him before then, we'd have to give up a 1st round pick which is a no no.

To me he is a guy that can be effective in 15 min or less. He will come in and hustle. He doesn't need to get warmed up or get touches. I guess I don't see why he warrants starter minutes is all.

Sure, who knows what Memphis or any other team is planning. I'm just saying there's no particular reason to try forcing a square peg into a round hole here in Cleveland if that's the situation we're looking at. If there's a team where he'd actually be a good fit and they're interested in him, then all the basic ingredients are there for a mutually beneficial trade.

I can't shake the Greg Monroe comparison.

Agree, it wasn't you but over the past months I've seen others suggest that if we don't have a set role for him to begin this season, his second with the Cavs and second in the NBA, than we owed it to him to trade him, regardless of our own benefiting in the trade. So I was reacting to that. What you're describing is of course reasonable and IF the Cavs are already at a point(I don't think they are) or reach an eventual point(maybe they do), where they see no role for him in how they want to play and build the team, than yes, hopefully they can work out a deal with a team that values what they see in his advanced numbers and natural shooting touch and will deal in good faith for him, providing something of value back to the Cavs.

Guilty as charged :chuckle:

Lucas Nogueira is 26 years old and shot 60%+ from the floor for the past three years (1,700+ minutes). He blocks shots and is an excellent passer for a big man.

But as a fan of the Raptors, I saw him effective only against specific lineups. I don't like Greg Monroe (and I will miss Jakob Poetl) but I can understand why letting Nogueira go was an easy decision. I was somewhat surprised a weak team did not sign him as a third string center. He signed in Europe in late September.

I only watched Zizic play a few times - I don't usually watch garbage time - and he looked far more like a project than a prospect to me. I would not want him on the floor for significant minutes if we're trying to win games. Not sure that will be our objective in the last third of the season.

I feel like he is closer to Poetl than Nogueira. Nogueira lacks a feel for the game.

Monroe is a true no defense center and has truly slow feet. Ante has better athleticism, but is not up to game speed yet. Much better voume scorer than Nogueira too.

I get what you are saying, but people saying he can't defend at this point in his career is on less information than those saying he can be a scorer.
