Theoretically Ante Zizic

He has long arms and he can improve his technique a lot. I think he just snagged rebounds with his size in Europe. He has had some good rebounding games, but off the bench.
 
I was truly shocked when I saw Zizic was starting. I guess Drew must read here and decided to prove me wrong. I still say nobody is giving Zizic proper coaching, and nobody is teaching low post play on this team. Love is the only guy who knows about this shit. TT gets it done his own way but not in a way Zizic can emulate. Love needs to teach him how to box out properly. Sexton needs to learn how to run off his picks.

It's clear that Zizic doesn't know where he is expected to be, and nobody else on the team has any idea how to play and play off of Zizic except for Delly. I think Zizic should be subbed in with Delly whenever possible, and Sexton should be told to watch and learn from how Delly facilitates and works with other players.

I really think Nance should just be a power forward, and he should be force fed outside shots until he quits overthinking them.

I agree with all of this. It's hard to develop both Sexton and Zizic while they are on the floor together. Let Delly figure out the proper places that Zizic likes the ball and ways to get him the ball. Then let Delly teach it to Sexton in practice.

I also wouldn't mind Nance starting at PF till Love comes back. Let Frye start till TT comes back. At least that give both Nance and Sexton some space to operate. It also give Sexton a good spot up shooters in Frye to try to pass to. I don't see the point in starting Cedi at PF, let him play SG or SF which should be his long term positions.
 
Despite not scoring a lot this was a very good game for Ante imo. He rebounded pretty well, played good defense on Sabonis, and had some nice passes to Delly. He needs to be playing 100% of his playing time with Delly.

Definately needs to just play with Delly. I would hope that the staff will just delete the plays of giving Zizic the ball out high. It leads to too many turnovers and truely I don't see the point in them. You want him to have good vision from the inside of the court to pass out.
 
Zizic needs to play with Delly. Sexton needs to play with Delly. Clarkson needs to play with Delly. TT needs to play with Delly. See the problem? No one knows how to play basketball on this team other than Delly. He makes the team watchable again. We’ll win a few extra games and hopefully develop good habits, and either way we still have a pretty good chance at a top pick, which will be a wing player.

Could be fun to watch.

I was surprised by his d this game. I think he deserves more minutes.

I think Sexton needs to learn from Delly but I don't think he needs to play with him. I think Delly's number 1 priority in game should be to help Zizic develop.

Once the trade deadline comes along we should have a better picture of who the front office sees as part of our future. I'm not convinced Clarkson is part of the future.

I would like Nance to keep developing his passing skills and 3pt shot. I'm not sure how you develop both Nance and Sexton as passers in the same unit though. Hopefully the trade deadline will get us more spot up shooters in exchange for Burks, Clarkson, and Hood. We just need possessions to be freed up to develop Sexton, Nance, and Cedi as ball handlers/playmakers.
 
Zizic seems is showing incremental improvement as he gets more minutes. He is just scratching the surface in terms of developing a comfort level. Stats don't show the effect he has on the floor.

There were a lot of missed opportunities last night where the ball handlers failed to exploit mismatches with Zizic in the post. It wouldn't matter much if they had other go-to options on offense, but last night they didn't. The Hornets were pretty effective at stifling the Cavs perimeter players and there was a lot of times where if they could have gotten the ball in to Zizic near the paint he would have had an easy mismatch where he has proven to be close to automatic. If the defense collapses then Zizic is showing the ability to kick the ball out for an open 3 point shot.

Some of this is on Zizic and he can do a little better to seal off and provide a window for the inlet pass. But more of it is the failure of the ball handlers to be looking for him when he does provide a window, which only remains open for a short time. The ball handlers are missing the chances they do get and usually passes into Zizic are poorly timed and located.
 
I would give Drew some credit for finally getting Z some minutes on the court, but frankly since it's down to just him and Nance, or Frye in limited minutes? It's not like Drew is going out of his way to do something he should have been doing all along. I just hope Drew sees the possibilities Zizic presents and continues to work him into the rotation as a regular piece even after TT comes back.

One thing I noticed was that Zizic was altering a lot of shots at the rim pretty effectively, but then he was out of position for the rebound. When he played with Nance, Nance often was able to secure it, but when he plays with all guards and wings, they can't.

I want him to get regular minutes with Nance once TT is back. I think they can play pretty well together now that Nance is hitting the 3 with some regularity.

They really need to look for him when the bench isn't hitting shots. He could be a real release valve. So many of our guards turn it over when passing around the basket.
