Farewell, Richard Jefferson.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Is this for real or is it just Richard being his goofy self?
His snap was clearly a joke. If you thought that the 1 day promotion of ESPN 8: The Ocho is going to cause Richard to retire I don’t know what to tell you.

This dude smh.. At least Marion stuck to his work and did. Griffin drunk off of the championship of course gave him two years... at the mini MLE!!

Just Curious. Why do you want him to retire?

He was clearly done last year. I can count on one finger the number of good games he had.

I will never be able to hate on RJ.

The man was huge in our sole NBA Championship win. For that, I'll always be thankful to him.

I know he was quite poor last season but that wasn't down to effort. It was simply a case of age catching up to him. It was not his fault that our coaching staff and management thought, he was going to be our second option to guard KD after LeBron lmao.

Still, the man gave his all and played with an edge even when he was getting rekt by KD. As a 6th - 10th man in the rotation, he isn't good enough. But the last few roster spots? Players like RJ are perfect for it. He essentially replaces the James Jones role. I hope he sticks around for one more season. We need vets presence in the locker room. Especially players with the attitude and mentality like RJ. To lose both Champ and RJ in the same summer would be sad.

I don't want him to retire because I dislike him. He gives it everything he has and plays with a helluva lot of passion. I just want him to retire so Lue will finally give his minutes to someone else. I'm perfectly fine in him staying on the roster in the James Jones role, but I don't have any faith in Lue playing him in that role.

His biggest contribution is the road tripping podcast. For that reason alone I want to keep him forever.

Because I want players who can contribute to the game of basketball, as opposed to just weaving tales about what America was like before the advent of the automobile.

Well, no team has 15 players who contribute.

Ideally you need 10-12 players who can play some vital mins if needed. The last couple of rosters sports are usually for vets. See who Spurs had for their last roster spot last season. Joel Anthony.

And, its not like RJ can't contribute at all. Inspite of all that, he is still possibly one of our better wing defenders and LeBron aside, the only one who makes good cuts.

I agree that he shouldn't be in rotation to play vital mins in playoffs but we need his presence in the locker room.

Lue and LeBron love to give old guys minutes because they don't trust young players. We won't develop beyond this short window if younger talent (Derrick Williams/Felder) go under developed.

It's funny, LeBron will sacrifice wins to sit, but didn't seem last year to want to sacrifice wins to develop young talent.

I don't agree with this. The Cavs DID play Felder and Williams. Felder even got all the minutes he could ask for in Canton. He wasn't ready to play in the playoffs, let alone the finals. Most, if not all rookies typically aren't ready for a stage that big by the end of their first year. I'm not sure what else you would want from the coaching staff when it comes to Kay.

As for Derrick, he also got minutes and looked solid. Not great, not bad, but solid. Again, first year in the system, and he got squeezed from the rotation come playoff time, which totally makes sense. I highly doubt Derrick makes much of a difference in the finals if he gets minutes, though you could make the argument he was worth a shot. But at that point, you're just splitting hairs.

I'm as critical of the Cavs as the next guy when it comes to drafting and developing players, but does anyone remember how long it took Delly to get acclimated? He was really bad his first year. His second year, he was still pretty bad, but he had to play because of injuries. By his third year, he was a legitimate back-up point guard. It takes years for a player like Kay to get to a respectable back-up level, and that's if he even makes it.

I don't know what people were expecting from him and Derrick last year, but it's clear some had way too high a bar.

As do some people with what they expect from Jackson, if obtained.
He is purely a trade piece if we want to win now.

Not really. He was a high lottery pick who should be able to contribute immediately on defense. That's what we've been needing. A young athletic wing we can stick on KD so LeBron can play free safety.

Why are we forcing this guy to play basketball when he just wants to audition for his post-NBA career?
