Welcome Deron Williams

This...take...too...hot...to...touch. Another backup? Deron Williams is a 3X all-star, 2X gold medal winner, and will likely be top 10 in assists all-time when he retires. When you pair that type of guy with Lebron, these are the results you see.

The handful of people that were giving him shit when he first joined our team should've known better. He's an old vet that isn't going to blow his load in the regular season. He knows this is his first real shot at getting to the Finals for the first time in his career. He conserved energy by taking a week off and then joining in on the collective "chill" our team enjoys during the regular season. He's a great change of pace guy to have on this team, especially when Irving is choosing when to play defense.

With that said, Irving dropped 37 points last game on a very efficient shooting night. If that's him playing "injured or some shit", i'll take it. Irving has already cemented himself as one of the most clutch players in Cavs (and arguably NBA) history with his GM 7 performance last year.

How is that a hot take though? do you think he is a good initiator in the the PnR? why can't he make the simple pass at times? No team can stop Lebron in the PnR surrounded by shooters.. not a chance, so why doesn't it happen with Kyrie?

Irving's play generates looks mostly for himself. He doesn't know how to use his skillset to open up opportunities for his teammates.
When he plays with Lebron and Love.. they are just taking turns.

Deron was a 3x all-star and last time I checked he was being mocked by most fans around here. Deron didn't make any crazy passes tonight.. just simple passes to an open Lebron under the basket.. a simple thing that Kyrie has yet to learn.

Cavs needed Lebron to turn on god mode while playing 45 minutes.. it's time for Kyrie to help him a bit. Because he is going to need to average 45 minutes a night to get to the finals and by then he might be too tired to carry that team to another miraculous finish.

Deron has been the opposite of Irving.. much like how Delly was.. He showed tenacity, good decision making, good passing and great defense tonight and that's what we needed.

But okay, keep praising Kyrie for things he did last year. We need him to defend and pass better.. things he can control. I'm not talking about his shooting.

The hot take was calling Deron Williams a backup. Ky is who he is, a SG trapped inside of a PG's body. Him and Deron shouldn't be compared to one another to exploit weaknesses in one's game b/c they're not similar enough, aside from the fact they play the same position.

Williams looks to make the best basketball play. Irving looks to score. We should be happy both guys are on our team b/c they impact the game in different ways.

Its tough for Kyrie to really work on his weaknesses when LeBron is on the court. When LeBron leaves the court (for just a few mins) it forces Kyrie to really go into gunner mode.

LeBron needs to trust Kyrie to run the pick and roll more. When Kyrie usually handles the ball its when he can finally start playmaking and creating shots for himself. Usually when we need it.
Its tough balancing being the scorer you need him to be and the passer you need him to be. Unlike other pgs that don't play with elite playmakers.

I'd run a PnR with Lebron every single time tbh.. but Kyrie's passing is just cringeworthy right now for some reason. He tries to pass but it's often the wrong pass to make and it's sometimes too late.
Kyrie does try to make the highlight reel most often than not. Other thing that kinda gets me is that left handed bank shot layup that he tries to be smart with.. instead of just trying to score the ball. It's his recent trend.

I just want better defense out of him.. Deron showed willingness, Kyrie should to.

Bacon Grease's defense was what was most impressive... Definitely never wanna see him on the floor with Irving ever again....

Somebody's got to run this team when Lebron sits. I'm as a huge Lebron fan as anybody out there but damn can't somebody play well with Irving/Love or just not completely collapse. Deron, Derrick, JR, and even Love look like they're going thru heroin withdrawal if not playing with James. I think TT is the one guy who seems consistent with or w/o James

He figured out how to fit in. There's times I'd rather see him out there than Kyrie. He definitely can defend the bigger guards better. And for the moment his 3 point shot is wetter than Kyrie's, but I expect that to change after 7 days rest for Kyrie's knee.

Agreed, he's playing like the player we hoped he'd be, more so lately. He looks more engaged and paying attention to the little stuff. Keep it up, we need it.

He's gotta be highly motivated. Back in his Utah days people argued CP3 vs D-Will. He fell off that the last few years and can actually make a deep run as a significant contributor on this team and give himself a real legacy.

Not enough comments about D-Will in here for my taste so thought I'd contribute. He was remarkably efficient today in only 13 minutes. 13. He is too good to only play 13 minutes. He is a savant running the offense. We all know how good Kyrie is at scoring the ball. But this guy runs the offense, gets not only himself but everyone else going.. it's a joy to watch.

Play him more Lue.

Play him more Lue.

All that needs to be said. I was fuming when he wasn't even on the floor when the Pacers had their little comeback. Deron can clearly contribute even without scoring but he scores so there's that.

He has earned more time going forward, I hope. He was great today but didn't get much run in the 2nd half.

He should be able to match up with Lowry's size as well as anyone. Brogdon too, for that matter.

Glad this guy got his act together: one good thing is with Barbaso gone, it's not like the Warrior have lightning quick guy that will just blow right by Williams. Looking thru last year, Steph had one really good game against Dallas but pretty mediocre beyond that - Mavs didn't win but they sucked. Williams playing like looks like he did against the Stephenson can switch onto Klay, Livingston, and Igoudala and hold his own. He maybe a big key against them.

On offense he starting to develop a nice chemistry with Lebron and in that multiple 3 point shooter bench lineup, it will be tough to guard as long as Lebron doesn't run out of gas. Williams is a threat to score off off the pullup from 3, midrange, or just go straight to the hoop. I expect the bench numbers to look very gaudy for the rest of the Eastern round of the playoffs
