Jeff Green: Old

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really like Green when he plays with LBJ. He excels as an energy/opportunistic big, and is a great vet min signing.

But when he's out there with guys he perceives as scrubs, he starts playing the kind of hero ball that makes me cringe. Though I suppose it generally does not matter at that point.

I have noticed the same thing.. if he is playing in garbage time with, as you aptly put it 'perceived scrubs'... he just won't pass the ball. It IS cringy, it's like watching a pick up game at the Y with 'that guy' that won't ever pass.

That being said, he is in the top 10% of this league in terms of sheer athleticism and it's a welcome addition to our rotation. He's playing well.

Jeff Green is on the new road trippin. He and Channing start talking about their respective heart problems. It's fascinating.

(Jeff says he had a picture of himself cut open during surgery. Said his insides look like seafood :chuckle:)

His two man numbers with LeBron are really good. One of the highest on the team

Jeff Green, D Wade, Calderon, Rose

Our vet min acquisitions this year look phenomenal 20 games in. It sucks that Rose can't stay healthy, but getting good contributions from 3 of the 4 has been fantastic.

Ty Lu's greatest achievement as a coach, and I'm a Ty Lue fan, is whatever the fuck he did to turn Jeff Green into a KEY rotation player(not useful...KEY!!!) on a contender at 31 years old after he flamed out like 4 other places.

As someone who has been sliced open for major surgery before...the last thing I'd want to look at is that...good lord.

It's gotten to the point where I feel the team loses out whenever Crowder comes in to replace him.

Jeff has always been at his best when he can be a fill in the gaps guy. He's not going to play to his potential if he's a guy that needs to create for himself and others. Playing with Wade pairs him with a HOF creator, and surrounding him with Korver, Frye and JR/Shump/Cedi spaces the floor and allows him to play in the open areas. He can hit a three, but he's not consistent there and shoehorning him as that guy won't work.

Then when he plays with the starters, he has LeBron, Love, Crowder and, shortly, IT. Basically, Jeff is the kind of player that can thrive as an ancillary character.

Ehh. He was asked to fill in the gaps in OKC, Memphis and LAC too. He wasn’t nearly the same guy he is now.

I guess maybe he still is lower on the depth chart than he was in any of those places. Not asked to start or go up against the best guy every night. I like the bench role.

Yeah, but he's being asked to do far, FAR less here than any of those stops. With the lowered expectations, it feels like he's been amazing. Matter of perception with Jeff.

(He's also been more selective with his bulldozing to the rim attempts, which were maddening early on.)

Agreed.

Maybe “Awesome 8th man under Ty Lue on a LBJ team” was his true ceiling. Definitely possible.

Being that second wing running with LBJ he is amazing.

Liking Green too. He seems to fit in pretty well with the first or second group we have. He seems versatile with us. I like him out there better than Shump or JR in most cases.

I love the way he plays right now, do you think he should take the 3 when he is wide open (happened at least once in tonight 1st half and didn't try it) ? I hope he works on that so he can hit 35% or even more
