Goodbye Larry Nance Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know he's kind of a family friend around here and I'm rooting for the guy, but does anyone else question his intensity and work ethic? I don't know how much work he puts in but his body language and mannerisms leave me questioning him. The laughing finger wag at the official towards the end of the game, him saying something like "yeah I'm having fun, they let me shoot threes now!", playing outside of his abilities (over dribbling, bringing the ball up the court)....just rubs me the wrong way, and I was super excited to see him in Cleveland and see him develop. Like...does he just not take the game seriously? Seems like his personality would clash with Sexton's...

From what I've seen I couldn't agree more. He'll never be who we need him to be and no one here is expecting too much really. Show us something though. He'll never be half as good as his dad. He's a smart guy, he got paid (enough in his view) to be set for life if he plays his hand right. I think he's checked out, for now anyhow.

We seem to be paying him a lot of money to come of the bench, play a little over 20 minutes, and only take 3 shots in a game.

Bitch, bitch, bitch. Every thread the same bitching. It is what it is. Find something else to do.

Kinda hard to be positive about this team right now. I can excuse players being bad and outmatched but being lazy and just not putting any effort considering the millions they are being payed pisses me off also watching the same stupid mistakes, buddy ball, iso ball, ball hogging and just no sign of any system after 22 games is frustrating and yes we will bitch about it.

Also the ownership sold us on a team that would make the playoffs, some of us bought league pass, season tickets etc to watch a team that competes every night. Instead we have this crap so it's fair enough for fans to be pissed about this shitty product we are being presented.

Kind of surprised that Nance was down to 16 minutes tonight.

He has played very well with Love before. I think that is all we have to look forward to. I am disappointed in his play thus far.

He's dead last on the team in +/-. When looking for some other stats that stand out in his on court/off court to see why they are losing, I see that Larry correlates with more turnovers for the Cavs and More free throws for the opponents. In other words, he might foul too much on both sides of the court

If his last name is not Nance he'd be getting the Clarkson treatment and rightfully so. He at least to me is a less talented more athletic version of Tristan.

Really?

It is?

What did you expect from the first rebuilding year? A perfect upward trajectory, and flawless decision making? That's not how rebuilding works.

I'm still waiting to see what Nance can do for 28/min a night over a 20 game span. It's tough to judge improvement at the 20/min per game that he has been stuck at most of his career. It's time to stretch him out, the uptick in 3pt shooting has been a positive sign.

The good news about Jr.:
  • He's hitting 3pt shots at an acceptable 39% rate on roughly 1 attempt per game. Would be nice to see if he hits at that rate when taking 3 attempts per game.
  • Is PF's per possession has gone down a little bit from last year
  • He's getting about 2.5 assists per game, compared to 1 per game last year.

The bad news about Jr.:
  • He's taking less 2 point attempts and hitting them at a career low so far this season
  • He's still fouling way too much
  • His turnovers have gone up faster than his assists
  • He dropped from one of the best +/- guys on the team to the worst as the total talent on the team declined.
Could it be that he was a good 4th option but a bad 2nd option? If that was the case, I'd expect his shot attempts to have gone up, not down. Not seeing that in the data. Could be that the guards are just not getting him the ball where he likes.

No with rebuilding you clean the house and bring in a coaching staff that can install a system and develop young players. You bring in intelligent vets who can keep the locker room positive and show the young guys how to play. You don’t sign old all stars to massive contracts, you don’t keep your old dumbass coach just to fire him 6 games into the season then hire his assistant who’s as dumb plus the dumbasses like Lombardi. Our young guys seem to be regressing, Drew obviously gives zero fucks about the future development of our players. There is no system and no accountability. So no didn’t expect anything perfect but when a GM and owner sell to fans the idea that we are competing I don’t expect to be the worst team in the nba, if we are rebuilding let’s rebuild, not this shitty limbo...

On a team with no real point guards and a lot of guys who like to chuck, I think he's just trying to fit in as well as he can with mixed results. Everyone would look better, IMO, if we simply had a pass-first point guard (even an old washed-up one like Jose) to get the offense running more smoothly.
