OBJ apparently went all-in on NYG in a twitter rant.

Had issues with the coaching staff, claimed he wasn't injured down the stretch and still had to sit out, and was burnt out from the media.
Of course this would be a Mary Kay article...

But in all reality, I don't understand why Gettleman continues to field and answer questions on OBJ. He should just say "he's no longer a part of this organization."

Instead, he keeps trying to talk his way into justifying the move. Just shut up and roll with the team you have now.

History won't be kind to Dave Gettleman.

Lets just be honest about it, the writing has been on that wall for quite some time.

Digging your heels in while the game passes you by has claimed more victims than him, but I'm glad the Browns were able to reap the benefits of a downward trending franchise.

Not a hard worker. Locker room cancer.

The best thing for OBJ at this point is to use the next month to get in the right head space and leave the bitterness of the Giants parting in the past. As long as OBJ is in game shape and has chemistry with his quarterback, the rest of OTAs aren't crucial to a wide receiver.

No OTA is not crucial, but timing is helped during these OTA's, so it would be nice if he can make it.

Now I don't know why he isn't coming and I wont speculate, that is between him, his coaches, the front office and his teammates. There are many reasons not to go, I just hope he makes some, 10 OTA's is allot so there re plenty left for him to make.

If we envision him being here for a while, as an organization, it seems silly to start the relationship off on a sour note just for the sake of "putting our foot down".

If you do it for him, then you're going to be opening yourself up to constant demands for renegotiations by other players. That money inevitably will lead to you not acquiring/releasing other players whom you would have preferred be Browns.

If he comes in here and absolutely dominates in his first year, then maybe you consider it because other players will recognize how outstanding he was. Giving him more money before he's played a single down is just being a chump.

Our FO acquiring absolutely elite talent to surround Baker is step 1, doing what is necessary to keep them here for the rest of their career is step 2. Then allow Dorsey to fill in the cracks via trades and the draft. Maybe that includes adjusting the contract of a newly acquired player, maybe it is not.

The reason I'm in favoring of doing it now, if it is agreeable, is we should be trying to front load as much money as possible, prior to Baker's contract ballooning. If that means paying a handful of guys more money now and then having a bargaining chip in our pocket later...i.e. "Hey, we did you a favor a few years ago...", I don't see the negatives of that approach.

Players can and will ask for more money at any point. It has little to do with the organization re-doing 1 or many players' contracts....or none for that matter. The Browns should be focussed on acting in good faith with the core (present and future) and then allowing our front office to make the necessary adjustments to make it work.

Agreed. Although I believe it is wildly premature to do that with Beckham right now. He is signed for four more years already. Maybe we should see how healthy/motivated he is in four more years before giving him additional money beyond that point.

Doesn't matter. Right now, we are already over the annual spending cap, and the money we are spending over that cap is money that rolled over from prior seasons. So all you do by front loading something now is eat into that rollover money sooner rather than. You aren't saving anything. Also, Garrett is going to become due a year before Baker, so we can frontload a monstrous amount on his monster contract if necessary.

The other issue is that you're assuming we're going to have to give ODJ another huge contract at some point. That may or may not happen. Could be injury, could be trade...any number of things. Why take the risk of wasting huge amounts of money before it is necessary?

We have only one more year to use the rollover cap money until the CBA is done. 2021 most likely is an uncapped year,. but you cant go crazy or front load like crazy, a few teams got fined for doing that.

Cowboys and redskins. I believe they got docked cap space and picks.

I have it on very good authority that Gettleman took an Organization Effectiveness class from Professor Hue Jackson.

Yeah, I wouldn’t criticize OBJ for not attending OTAs because we don’t know what his reasons are for not attending. To me, it still sounds like he’s going through some personal/emotional shit right now that he needs to deal with.

But OBJ is a veteran. He always talks about wanting to make a good impression here and proving his haters wrong. If he’s not here, I’m sure he has his reason.
