What does your Draft Board look like?

Who will the Cavs select with the 8th pick?

Ayton (and the rest of T4) would be T2 for me in a lot of drafts...but Doncic and JJJ knocked everyone down in this draft down two tiers by being freaky once-in-a-generation unicorn prospects.

Ayton would be a tier higher for me if I were more confident in his offensive game translating. There's just not much of a precedent for a big man who doesn't really pass and doesn't really bomb 3's being an elite offensive player in the modern NBA. And if he ends up being good-not-great offensively, I'm not sure he has the right kind of mental makeup to play his best in an offense that doesn't always revolve around him. If I'm going to draft a defensive sieve in the mid-high lottery, I have to be confident he's a likely future top-10 player offensively, and I don't think that's a realistic projection for Ayton.

Post of the year contender.

The team who takes Trae Young is going to have to commit to his high usage rate, his unique shot selection, and have a ton of faith that his lack of defense was by design in college. Young will never be a guy who can switch defensively. I see the high ceiling but I believe he has the lowest floor out of that group of ten. I bet he does go in the top ten, I just hope the Cavs don't take him.

Already imagining Ty Lue continuing with our defensive scheme of switching with Trae Young running the point.

Switching was the right move until Javale came into the fray in game two, Cavs never countered. ISO the 7'1 guy with freakish wingspan on George Hill over and over again will be etched into my retinas. However, switching is the right design to slow off ball screens. Hill had some great perimeter defense otherwise, and Zizic isn't ready to battle in the playoffs. Wendell Carter Jr. has fewer holes in his game than Zizic, and he may fall to #8. He would have helped shore up the paint tremendously.

I believe the top five off the board will be:

1. Ayton - Suns have pretty much cemented this.
2. Bagley - Seems like he has been killing individual workouts lately, eliminating some of the defensive concerns.
3. Bamba - Drew Hanlen has made Bamba his latest project. Look out world.
4 and 5 will be some combo of Doncic and Jaren Jackson. They are a lead pipe lock to go in the top five to me.

Six through ten depend greatly on fit within a team and the health of Porter's back. If the Cavs draft MPJ, I will have confidence the Cleveland Clinic completed due diligence checking him out.

6. Porter (if cleared) - Reminds me of young Rudy Gay.
7. Carter - I wonder if he can figure out the defensive end, a risk but if he does has All Star potential.
8. Mikal Bridges - Two way player in the mold of Trevor Ariza.
9. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - Again, premium on playmaking and length for the position, young George Hill.
10. Kevin Knox - Improving scorer with great length and athleticism, reminds me of Harrison Barnes.
Idk about the porter claim. What happens here that didn't with Thomas?

I've said my peace on the Boston trade. Irving had the franchise over a barrel, Gilbert wanted the lottery pick. Don't blame the Cleveland Clinic for being correct and going back to the franchise with the correct diagnosis. Remember they went back to Boston with these concerns, but the trade had been leaked for a week. Ainge gave them a middle finger and a second round pick, right?

But that just means Dan doesn't necessarily care what the clinic says

Once Bron leaves, we are going to need someone who can score the ball! Where are the points going to COME from, next year? Cedi? Nance? Zizic? Skinny Kevin isn’t the centerpiece of ANY offense...

I would have voided the trade, at that point. Of course I would have never considered making the trade, in the first place...

I mean, who gives their arch-rival their second-best player, for next to nothing - basically handing over the Eastern Conference? The more I think about it, the crazier it seems...

Nothing bores me more than rehashing the Irving trade weekly. Clinic got the red flag right, I believe they will get Porter right if allowed to examine him, let's leave it at that. The rest of it requires paying attention to the details.

  1. DeAndre Ayton
  2. Luka Doncic
  3. Jaren Jackson Jr.
  4. Mo Bamba
  5. Marvin Bagley III
  6. Michael Porter
  7. Mikal Bridges
  8. Wendell Carter
  9. Trae Young
  10. Miles Bridges
  11. Kevin Knox
  12. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
  13. Zhaire Smith
  14. Collin Sexton
  15. Robert Williams
That's not the order that I think they'll get picked in, just my personal rankings if I had to rank the guys.

At one point I was all in on Bamba but with his recent rise there’s absolutely no way he’ll be there at 8. Trae Young seems to be sliding up as well so there’s the possibility that Porter will be there at 8. I would be happy with that.

I think he'll have a lot of success in the NBA and be a very exciting player. I also think his defense is going to be a critical flaw if you're talking about winning a championship.
