If he stays:
Full 5 year max, statue outside Q built by preseason game 1.
8th pick and Love packaged together for ....? CJ out in Portland?
re-sign Jeff Green.
I just don't see it happening, and really haven't since Gilbert let Griff go. Felt like that gave James the perfect exit strategy/excuse only later compounded by Irving wanting out (and being let out).

The "Hey Dan, I'll Stay But It's Gonna F--- Your Wallet" Approach

Step 1
to Charlotte: Hill, JR, #8
to Cavs: Kemba, Batum, #11
Why? Charlotte gets huge salary relief and moves up a few spots in exchange for Kemba's last year

Step 2
to OKC: Love
to Cavs: PG13
Why? Because LeBron and PG said so. Its this or the Lakers show.

Step 3
to Memphis: #11, TT, Korver
to Cavs: #4, Parsons
Note: Might need to find a 3rd team for TT/Korver
Why? Memphis saves a lot of money and gets some serviceable pieces in exchange for moving down.

Step 4
Draft Mo Bamba @ #4.
Why? I love this guy's potential and seems to be a perfect fit in this scenario.

Step 5 - Free Agency
LeBron (max), JJ Redick (MLE), Jeff Green (min), Vet Min Point Guard and Center

We get a legit supporting cast around LeBron for the end of his career. Dan gets stuck with TWO atrocious contracts (Batum and Parsons) and something like $1 billion in luxury taxes.

PG: Kemba, Clarkson, Vet
SG: Redick, Batum
SF: PG, Osman, Parsons
PF: LeBron, Nance, Green
C: Bamba, Zizic, Vet

I don't believe you can execute a S&T for George, he'd have to opt-in I guess.
Step 4 is fun, but no way is it happening.
I do think #8 and Kemba are in play, but the thing is: the picks will already be in by the time we get to the point that we know what James wants to do.

I'm a bit of a Love fanboy, but I really don't see why people would want to trade Love. You're not gonna get equal value back. He is effective against the one team we need him to be effective against. With a PG that can set him up he can be a massive offensive weapon. His defense isn't awful and when it is it's usually because we're running a scheme that's setting him up for failure. He does two incredibly valuable things at elite levels at his position.

Unless you're upgrading talent because the other team's hand is forced (*cough* Paul George), there's really no point. And I just don't see a situation like that actually occurring in reality.

We should have traded that pick for Kemba IN THE FIRST PLACE. So now we won't be counting our remaining days left until we get swept and humiliated by those douchebags again AT HOME. That's the hardest part. Knowing that should we have a star caliber guy like Kemba, we could have won this Finals. Nice job Dan. As always.

I'm more of the mind that you can't have a single defensive liability out there unless they are scoring 30+ against Golden State. That means you can't have a defensive liability at all. You have to beat them the fuck up. We need smarter tougher players.

Yep.

If Love isn't scoring 25 odd points, he will be a net negative against the Warriors.

If LeBron is staying.

1. Sack Ty Lue.

2. Trade Kevin Love for Paul George.

3. Trade JR Smith + George Hill + 8th Pick for Kemba Walker + Nicolas Batum + 11th Pick.

4. Trade Tristan Thompson + Future Top-10 Protected 1st Round Pick for Robin Lopez.

5. Trade Kyle Korver + Jordan Clarkson + Ante Žižić + 11th Pick for Bradley Beal.

6. Re-Sign Rodney Hood, Jeff Green and Jose Calderon. Get someone like Ersan Ilyasova for MLE.

Starting 5:-

Kemba Walker - Bradley Beal - Paul George - LeBron James - Robin Lopez.

Bench Unit:- Nicolas Batum, Rodney Hood, Cedi Osman, Jeff Green, Ersan Ilyasova, Larry Nance Jr.

I'm of the mindset that he wouldn't be a defensive liability if we had a coaching staff that could fathom a defensive scheme that isn't SWITCH EVERYTHING. Heck, he's had some pretty good playoff moments defensively this year even with the odds being stacked against him.

GS really punishes him at the rim and he really gives very little resistance

Almost like he isn't a center and our coaching staff is playing him out of position. Almost.

I will say this; that is their game plan, and if we had a couple of better offensive options out there, we'd have no problem overcoming it. And that's not even addressing how much the defensive scheme does nothing to help him.

Christian Eyenga could be the next Durant-Stopper... something to keep in mind.

Gotta figure the Cavs might finally bring over Ejike Ugboaja after giving him 12 years to develop overseas.

If LeBron stays, we need him to have better close-out games.
