I thought it might be a good idea to create a new thread to keep everyone up to speed on any additional trades or moves we might make next, now that the big trade just went through. So far we know that the Cavs are looking to move Shumpert, but will they try to shed his salary now, or will they wait and keep him around to use later in a bigger deal? We also know that Wade could get bought out and sign here, possibly before the start of the season. But what other moves could we make between now and the trade deadline? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Current Safari's
-Melo
-Wade

Role Players:

-Thad Young
-Eric Bledsoe
-Patrick Beverley (If Clippers are playing outside the playoff race)
-Avery Bradley (If Pistons bomb and realize they don't want to give him huge$$)
-Jared Dudley
-Lou Williams (If IT is dealt or out all year and we need quick bench scoring)
-Al Farouq Aminu

Dec. 15ers(player who signed as FA's this summer)
-Jonathan Simmons
-Tyreke Evans
-Patrick Patterson(if OKC goes into firesale mode)
-Thabo (if Utah flames out)

Pie in the Sky, Pipe Dream Stars:
-Westbrook or George(if Westbrook rejects the OKC extension, Presti will trade at least one of them to the highest bidder by the trade deadline)
-CP3, if HOU implodes and he and Harden have chemistry issues
-Cousins, if New Orleans is out of playoff picture and he's not meshing with Davis

In summary when factoring in actual likely availability and means to get them, my priority list would go(in no specific order): Melo, Wade, Bledsoe, Thad Young, Bradley.

I feel like we have two major holes

We need another PG or playmaking wing due to the injury risk with IT and Rose, preferably one who can defend and shoot the deep ball.

Second I think we need more bigs/rim protection unless Zizic is NBA ready. Not a fan of trotting out TT at the 5 all season and we don't have much at all behind him.

I think we need to open a few roster spots up. 2 at the very least for Wade and a center, possibly a third spot for Tony Allen.
That means we need to cut or salary dump 5 players, in order to free up 3 roster spots. Who goes?
My choice of the 5 players that we need to get rid of are: Felder, Shumpert, Jefferson, Frye, Osman
Right now we have 17 players on the roster, so that is gonna need to change:

Not sure why everyone hates Osman I'm not against trading him but people saying he's a must move is awkward.

As for the next move Shump likely gets dealt somewhere and RJeff retires.

not hating on Osman... the Cavs are just loaded at the SF position right now... if not for the Crowder addition, i could see keeping him

I'm against moving Osman. We should at least see how the man plays in a Cavs jersey. He used to play the 2 back in Europe. I doubt he has the quickness to do it in the NBA, but it's still something to consider. Honestly our best bet is to wait for the trade deadline and see if the pick can be used to nab a top player. Until then if I was in Altman's shoes I would try to move Shumpert, Jefferson and cut one of Tavares or Felder. I feel a good FA we can sign is David Lee who is still without a team and last year he was a valuable piece coming from the bench for the Spurs. Tony Allen is another one.

Otherwise if we have to make moves before the season starts the Clippers have an interesting package in Jordan/Beverley/Lou Williams. That means we part with BKN pick though and they can't offer much else other than the above mentioned players.

Just looking at what kind of depth we currently have at each position, and what we need at each position:

Here is what we currently have:
PG: Rose, Thomas, Calderon, Felder
SG: Smith, Korver, Shumpert
SF: James, Crowder, Green, Osman, Jefferson
PF: Love, Frye
C: Thompson, Tavares, Zizic

Here is what I would try to accomplish, realistically with free agents:
PG: Wade?, Rose, Thomas
SG: Smith, Tony Allen?, Korver
SF: James, Crowder, Green
PF: Love, Thompson, Bosh?
C: Bogut?, Tavares, Zizic

Cavs need to get Chris Bosh into the Cleveland Clinic and see if a return is possible... Otherwise, we are gonna need to somehow acquire a solid starting center. The above scenario is just what could realistically happen if Wade gets a buyout. I think Tony Allen is an essential piece due to the fact that we are going to be moving Shumpert and will need a true perimeter defender. I'm putting Wade at the PG position for now because I think he will be more effective there, especially to fill in as a playmaker until Thomas returns.

On another note, it appears as the Celtics are about to sign Thomas Robinson, meaning that they must not be signing Bogut after all. Should the Cavs give Bogut another chance? I think he deserves another shot. It's either that or we are gonna have to let Tavares and Zizic actually play. Which I question ever happening under Lue. Tavares really looked good in the 1 regular season game he got to play in. Anything has to be better than starting Tristan Thompson at center again. That bulls##t needs to stop. Bring back Bogut.

Chris Bosh will never play basketball on a professional level again. He has severe health problems which will kill him if he steps on the basketball court again. He's not getting cleared to play limited minutes. That's why I think David Lee can be a good signing. He can play both the 4 & 5. Also Jeff Green played as PF in Orlando and Boston, so with Crowder on board he won't be wasted.

- Use the pick for PG13, Boogie would be 2nd choice.

- Get a starting center that protects the rim effectively, no matter how talented our team will be if we still have Tristan starting at center we will always struggle defensively and it will be close to impossible to beat the Warriors without rim protection.

- Get Wade

David Lee is a too undersized to be the 3rd big in our rotation though, plus his defense is horrid... and we are already undersized enough as it is with Thompson. Our need is size and rim protection. I'm thinking more along the lines of bringing Bogut back.

A few days ago reports from Boston claimed Bogut and Celtics reached a verbal agreement. Robin Lopez is a good choice, but we don't have anything to offer them outside of draft picks.

I have not seen any reports of them signing him. They only had 1 open roster spot, and they are currently in the process of signing Thomas Robinson instead. I think we should jump on Bogut while we can. He deserves another shot here.

If you look at what he brings as a player Boguts for sure my first choice.
(Protects the rim, Sets hard screens, Great passer)

But you have to think about his injury history and his age, you just can't count on him because right now its more likely that he gets injured than staying healthy for a year.

No matter what we need to have more players going out than we have coming in. How that takes place is open to debate. Felder and Tavares can be converted to 2 way contracts. Beyond that I have no idea how we're going to get this done.
