What's next? (Post-Kyrie trade moves / transactions)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Starting to wonder what the Bulls will do about to Portis/Mirotic situation. Portis is already back and had a great first game. Mirotic is still out. Can't be a good situation in the locker room and practice courts.

Wondering about something like a TT/Shump/Cavs 1st(top22 protected) or TT/Frye/Cavs #1(top22 protected) for Lopez/Mirotic

Thoughts?
Like these ideas a lot and I have been thinking a lot about Robin Lopez lately. Think he would be a great addition here. The only thing I would add is the Bulls might value a young big like Zizic a lot as a big man replacement. I'd hate to trade big Z but I think you could put together a package the bulls would go for if you tossed Zizic into the mix as well.

Lue wont play zizic and if he is the price to pay to have a decent center that will solve most of the cavs issues defensively, then you have to trade him. I like robin lopez and he will definitely improve our defense.

IT/Smith/LBJ/Love/Lopez
Wade/Korver/Crowder/Green/TT

That's a well balanced starting five and a good second unit.

Curious what people think about Dewayne Dedmon. He's a (very) poor man's Porzingis type. There are not too many bigs in the NBA on lower level contracts that are attainable that can both protect the rim some and shoot the 3 some.

The problem is thought that the Cavs don't have too many options in acquiring Dedmon. They could try taking off the rest of the pick protection on the 2019 1st we owe them (if it falls 11-30), and then take Dedmon in on the Kyrie Irving trade exception... in that scenario I would imagine we would also try to cut back some of the incoming salary by including Calderon and/or Zizic in that deal.

However, that type of deal is pretty much irrelevant, as regardless of who we sent out of the minimum level players, the end result would be increasing our salary just enough to get into the next tier of the repeater tax, and essentially costing the Cavs $30+ million. I like Dedmon, but not for even half of that amount.

The lone other realistic option possible would be trading Frye away for Dedmon, which would actually give the Cavs some tax savings.

Also worth noting that Dedmon has a player option next season for $6.3m which I fully expect him to decline. We also would not inherit his bird rights.

He's shooting 42.1% from three this season, though all have been corner 3 attempts. I think he's an ideal fit with Love, and gives the Cavs some flexibility. They'd lose some shooting, and pick and pop ability, but maybe they could also convince Atlanta to swap Babbitt and Calderon as part of the deal as well.

I personally wouldn't want to lose Channing, but the Cavs are just so limited in what they can offer, as they have very few middle of the road salaries that they'd be willing to move.

I'm interested in hearing if anyone would like that swap of Dedmon/Babbitt for Frye/Calderon/Rest of '19 first.

Getting rid of the protection is a suicide. You just can't do that.

I wouldn't compare Dedmon to Porzingis. Dedmon started shooting 3's only this season and it's on miniscule attempts. He is a better defender than Porzingis and he is a pretty good fit on the Cavs, but i'm not getting rid of the protections.

I also wouldn't want to give out a young prospect, not yet.

That's why I said a very poor man's Porzingis. And I disagree that Dedmon is a better defender actually.

They're just so limited. I doubt the Hawks would want anything else beyond a change in protection on that pick. We have very little to offer. And giving them someone like Zizic/others instead would F up the trade completely and cause us to have that huge luxury tax spike.

It's something to at least consider later on because I'm sure they'll still need rim protection. Dedmon can't be traded for a month anyway.
