Objectively speaking, this team is different than others in the past decade.

The differences being:

1. A competent QB. Can anyone seriously dispute that Taylor is the best QB in Cleveland since Pro-Bowl Derek Anderson?
2. WRs. We know Gordon is good. We know Landry is good. When was the last time the Browns had two Pro-Bowl receivers at the same time?
3. RBs. When was the last time the Browns had such depth and talent at RB?
4. The O-Line is solid even with Thomas retiring.
5. I am more prosaic about the Defense. It was ranked 14th last year, a year that had them on the field way too long thanks to an incompetent Offense. Do we think they got worse? No.
6. The D-Line is healthy and a year added to the youngsters' belts.
7. The Defensive Backfield was an utter disaster. Since then, they added a Blue-Chip CB, and too very solid DBs.

The Defense will be Top Ten. I bet the Offense might be too. That said, it is highly unlikely this team will win fewer than 5-6 games.

I'm really impressed by the talent on the team. If they were wearing any other jersey I'd pick them to win 9 games this year and contend for a playoff spot. But, things just have a way of going wrong here. And between injuries and a questionable HC, there are many things that can happen to derail the season.

It would be nice to see some young players take leaps forward this year.

I didn't want to have to do this, but for people acting like everyone knew last year was a mail it in year and people pretending like a QB isn't crowned pretty much every year as the best QB since the return, here is a sample from after the Steelers game last year when Kizer was annointed the same

I took snippets of most of these quotes. It's not meant to individually come after anyone quoted. Pretty much just showing that collectively this board is extremely over optimistic on all things Browns. And it happens every year. There are actually similar posts like this for Kessler and RG3!
Yeah, I'll take this L. After how good he was in the preseason, that week 1 game against the STEELERS of all teams had me fully convinced he was the real deal.

But, I will say, I wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with Kizer in the draft. And I know you remember that because you and I were both irate about taking him & Peppers.

Definitely remember it and like I said I really wasn’t trying to make it at all personal, just grabbed one thread that I remembered from the fall that the current convo reminded me of. It was probably in bad taste but as this section’s Rich I have a moral obligation and ethical duty to throw wet blankets Whenever the trust factor of the Browns gets too high

I mean, I'll be that guy I guess and say it: We all know Kizer might still be good, right? Not saying it's likely, but...
He was traded to a really good spot for his future development. No real pressure unless he wins that #2 spot behind Rodgers.

I still think that kizer has a chance to be a good QB in the league. Looking back, he was up to the challenge when there was no pressure and won the starting job for us because there was garbage in front of him....... don't see that being any issue now that he's in GB. He's just not ready to be a leader.

Took the 15/1 odds today on the Browns to win the division. Do I realistically think they do? Nope. We’re the odds worth it? I think so.

Baltimore and Cincy are trash. Big Ben is close to 90 in fat qb years, so an injury isn’t that out of the question for him. All of a sudden the path opens up for Tyrod to squeak out the division title with a slightly above .500 season!!

It’s almost completely not about the draft for me, because like many here I wasn’t a fan, but the FA moves were big time and enough to give this very pessimistic Browns fan the guts to take a 15/1 risk.

Which means they’ll finish with 2 wins.

Agree 100%. Every single need has been filled with quality players. Just having Tyrod last year wouldv'e resulted in 3-4 wins. On paper this is the best team they've had since coming back. Just a matter of putting it together and getting it done on the field. Tyrod, Baker and Landry are all leaders. Hopefully they can set the tone for every one else.

You have the concerns about Hue - justified. You have the concerns about a 1-31 team - justified.

But you have to be absolutely blind like an NBA ref if you think this team isn't talented enough to get that 5-6 wins with all the shit that has happened. We have so many damn new players in key positions that are way more talented than what we had in prior years. As some have said, on paper alone, we are a talented team. 6-7 wins? Maybe a little more. Does that make the playoffs? Who the fuck knows.

Also have to factor in the Haley hire. Yes, we have the Hue Jackson achilles heel. But, he has given play control to Haley. Factor in this quote:

"Jackson wanted to change the playbook so that returning players are invigorated by learning something new and don’t fall into the bad habits that developed during the 1-31 offense of the past two seasons. Haley said he’s not a “system guy” and there is no unique Haley offensive system. “What I believe in is playing to every player’s strength that you have as best you can,” he said. “Putting players into position to succeed, playing to their skillset. Wherever I have been, that is what I have really tried to do. Whether I was a position coach, coordinator, head coach, [I’ve tried] to put guys in position to succeed.”

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure a lot of you have faith in Haley to run our offense. As long as Hue doesn't get big dick syndrome and try and overstep Haley's calls - we should be a way more fluid, cohesive offense.

How is GW going to change our defense? Well we have a shit ton of new players that are going to be starters right away. We no longer have to sit Peppers/whoever 24 yards off the line. We can finally have faith in our corners to give some time to our DL to get to the QB.

For the Moz/AZ and others who have no faith in this year, or 2, or 3. I get it. As Browns fans, we need to actually see some damn production before we have any hint of optimism about our team.

Go out. Live up to the expectations that you (the player) are known to have. If that happens - I don't see any fucking reason we shouldn't finish 2nd in our division. Is that playoffs? Probably not. But it is a hell of a fucking jump.

I will continue believing in my original selection:

2019.

I picked 2019 because that's how I roll. I never see the point in expecting failure and nobody is paying me to be right or penalizing me if I'm wrong.

I'm rooting for a winning season, no reason to expect anything less, or to predict anything less.
