WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Missed this one tonight, as the Cavs game was obviously on. But I did see Jinder Mahal is a WWE champion. What a day to be alive. Dude was literally jobbing a month ago.

What an odd decision. I can think of a literal laundry list of guys who are better in the ring and on the mic than him. I don't really hate him for being pushed. It's just confusing like when Sheamus won the championship a couple years back

as was Ambrose for all intents and purposes.

I had the game on the tablet and backlash on TV while posting on politics on the pc.

WWE is expanding its market in India but they ddint have to give him the belt to do that.

What this does is allow Guys like Sami Zayn,Luke Harper, AJ Styles, Nakamura to feud for the title without a face/heel turn .

It looks like the Owens vs AJ will be a full program.

as far as if Ortons wins his rematch or if they continue the ORTON vs Jahal program remains to be seen.

I am curious if Rusev will be repackaged as a face or will be used to turn Jinder into a face. guess it depends one whether Mahal and orton are going into a full program.

It sounds experimental to me by moving away from established guys like Orton and Cena. Honestly I would've never guessed the WWE would move in that kind of direction. They've been reliant on a couple guys for more than a decade. I would love to see Luke Harper and Zayn get an opportunity to show case their talent on a main event level. Ziggler too, my god that guy is excellent but he's trapped in the mid card.

Backlash review, part one...

Dillinger/English - **1/2
Solid opener, but I wish they worked matches like this as sprints instead of the standard WWE face/heel dynamic where the heel dominates much of the middle of the match. The opener should be entirely to get the crowd hot and into the show, and this one did that at the start and end, but the middle was very flat. Also, why did Dillinger change the Tye-breaker? Oh, and that first chop Dillinger gave English sounded fucking brutal.

---

Nakamura/Ziggler - ***1/4
The main problem with this match was that Ziggler was the opponent. When Nakamura faced off with Zayn in NXT, there was at least a shadow of a doubt that Zayn might win, and so they were able to do a couple of great near falls. That wasn't really the case here, as there was no doubt that Nakamura was winning this one. Solid match, and the ending stretch was fun, but nothing spectacular.

---

Usos/Hot Cops - ***1/2
We can add a mop to the list of inanimate objects that have gotten over before Roman Reigns. Anyway, really fun match. They kept the pace going, Breeze was hilarious, and they had a great home stretch.

---

I'll get to the rest tomorrow.

Jinder Mahal rocking the prestigious wwe belt? Wtf, I guess I have been away for a while

Who will they feed him too? I'm assuming they'll build him up to put a new lovable face over eventually

Orton is done as champion, his Wrestlemania victory shouldve carried longer than that

Backlash review, part two...

Zayn/Corbin - ***
Good match, but it just felt pretty by the numbers and did basically nothing to stand out. Zayn winning was a nice and surprising touch, though.

Women's Match - NR
I made pad Thai during this one, so I didn't really see any of it.

Styles/Owens - ***3/4
Would have given it four if it had a real ending. Owens kicking AJ in the face while he was still tied up after the match was great, though. These guys have great chemistry together and I feel like we're in for a true Owens/Styles classic at some point. This wasn't it, but it was comfortably the MOTN.

Harper/Rowan - NR
I was doing some work during this one and didn't really catch much of it. What I did catch didn't really draw me in. I think Harper works a lot better with smaller guys, and Rowan is just kind of slow and lumbering. Nice to see Harper actually get a win, though. I hope this means they might actually push him a bit.

Mahal/Orton - **1/2
This was Orton's best match in ages, but that's damning with faint praise because his last two PPV matches were two of the worst matches of the year. This one felt largely like Orton going through the motions and Mahal being Mahal...meaning mediocre. It was funny when Orton damn near killed one of the Singh brothers and laughed it off, though. Anyway, decent enough match but not really worth watching. Mahal winning was probably the right choice simply because getting the belt off of Orton had to happen.

---

Overall, a decent overall show, but it really suffered from having to follow Takeover: Chicago, which was the best WWE show this year so far (edging out Takeover: Orlando). It's just laughable how every Takeover manages to outdo the WWE show that follows the next night.

It's kind of funny how the main titles on each show are arguably the worst parts of each show as well.

If Raw was having a Fatal 5 way for the title, it'd be a hell of a lot more interesting than finding out who's going to get fed to Lesnar before Reigns eventually beats him.

If Smackdown had Owens and Styles battling it out in the main event instead of Orton/Mahal, it'd be a hell of a lot better as well. Orton is boring as a face. Should have made him the heel when he faced Wyatt.

Orton's main problem is that he has a tendency to just check out and go through the motions, and he's been doing that for ages now. When he's locked in, he's very capable of having good to great matches, but he's just so rarely locked in.

I agree that Styles/Owens should be for the main title on Smackdown. It's by far the best feud going on Smackdown right now, and it's basically a lock that Styles and Owens will have the best match at any PPV they face off at.

Ryback says the influx of Indie wrestlers has ruined the WWE as they don't sell

He says a guy shouldn't just get up and rop a high kick after received a brogue kick.

He said he would wrestle independents but he isn't gonna do 20 forearms because they refuse to sell one forearm.

he also said the ratings tell the story even if it is a diluted tv market.

Ryback was joining was echoing recent comments by Rip Rogers and Randy Orton.

specifically the indy strong style.

some points I agree with

Trading 20 punches make its harder to sell your punch.

Holding locks too long and allowing the face to just break it all the time. kills the lock

7 different finishing moves with clean kick outs are ruining the product.

So Lucha Underground came back this week, and we finally got the Mack/Mundo all night long match. So good.

Apparently Bray Wyatt's wife is filing for divorce because he's been cheating on her with JoJo.

This might be the first feud that Wyatt wins. :chuckle:
