Your 2018 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why would the Indians target Starting Pitching and left handed OFers?

Even if Brantley is healthy, we're looking at a lot of days off. I'd prefer RH, but I'd take a LH if they were good enough to start if/when Brantley cant.

As for SP, I'd guess/hope the Indians will monitor Kluber's workload a bit after last season. Salazar is always a huge question mark. They could potentially lose Merritt if they don't roster him. Our 1-4 is superb, but how much ML-ready depth is behind that?

They are just bringing in veterans on minor league deals that could help the team sometime this season. I mean we don't need to sign a starter or LH outfielders, but at the same time, if we can get them for minor league deals then why not? You never know what injuries you will have and you never know when you will find a guy like Olson if you don't take the low risk signings. I mean until last year Olson was a guy who couldn't stay in the bigs and we gave him a shot. I think even b00bie or bimbo at one point said the guy was a nothing/depth piece when I mentioned having him.

I mean heck, Austin Jackson signed as a minor league free agent and look how he turned out. We are going to sign guys who are coming off of injuries and people trying to revive their careers and bring them into camp like always. We are going to sign depth pieces that could possibly win use games since it is a long season.

From mlb trade rumors:

  • Slugger J.D. Martinez was the focus of a skirmish yesterday in the war of words, with some sparring over the fact that the Red Sox have not upped their longstanding offer — which evidently still stands at a previously reported five-year, $125MM level. Per Nightengale, the only other offer on the table right now is from the Diamondbacks, but it’s just a one-year deal. Clearly, all involved have reason to anticipate that there’d be greater interest than that from other organizations, but it’s a notable point in relation to Martinez’s hopes for generating pressure on the Sox.
  • Notably, too, the Red Sox are perhaps still aware of other means of fulfilling their desire for right-handed power. Nightengale says the organization spoke with the Indians earlier in the offseason about a potential deal that would have brought Edwin Encarnacion to Boston. Whether or not there’s any plausible hope of reviving those discussions isn’t clear, though, and the Sox are said not to have been willing to send Jackie Bradley Jr. to Cleveland. Clearly, that’s no surprise, as Bradley is a much younger and more affordable player who still offers plenty of value to the Sox. Indeed, it’s amply arguable that Bradley is a more valuable overall performer than is Encarnacio

Woah, they spoke!!

JBJ for super slugger Encarnacion makes absolutely no sense for the tribe. Nightigale's story is fake news. Why in the world would the tribe trade their only true home run hitter for a bum with a career 239 batting average?

Yonder Alonzo

Indian pitching staff of 2017 was absolutely mind boggling. 3.30 team ERA...better than 10 K's per 9 innings...led the league in fewest walks...on and on and on. The '95 Braves that shut down the tribe's murderer's row had a team ERA of 3.45...and that obviously was pitching w/out DH's most days.

Pitching should be even better this year without the over rated and over used Brian Shaw.

We lost one of the best bullpen arms in baseball. I know he had his days but with the fact he pitched in like 40%+ of all the games since we got with a sub 4 ERA in high pressure situations, is just ridiculous in this day and age. There is only a handful of pitchers in all the game that put up that kind of production and we had one of them. We are going to really miss Shaw at the end of the day.

Hopefully guys like Goody, McAllister, Otero, etc can pick up the innings and effectiveness that Shaw was able to do. We are going to miss him and Santana a lot more than the haters think we will

Isn't Machado hellbent on playing shortstop?

I'd love a Machado-Lindor-Ramirez-Alonso infield, but I just don't think it's a realistic thing to think about for a few reasons.

Not necessarily.

If he were playing on a contender, he’d assuredly continue playing 3B.

But in Baltimore it’s a bit different.
