Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well you did say those AAA baseballs are juiced.

Sure but still doesn't explain how he went from a .653 OPS with the Indians to .928 with the Tigers last year.

Same level, same league-- AA Eastern League.

It was practically overnight improvement and it's continued throughout this year.

It's odd....

I'm one of the biggest supporters of the Indians front office and my post history supports that position but that doesn't change the fact that this trade turned out poorly. Honestly, I didn't think much of it at the time....

I've never seen this level of improvement in that short amount of time before.

I mean, I'm sure the Indians front office is asking the same question I am right now, "where did we fuck up with him and why?"

It doesn't necessarily mean the Indians did anything wrong with him. He may have just figured some things out. Also of note - he gained a ton of weight last winter, all muscle.

The Leonys Martin trade was a fucking disaster.

SS Willi Castro, who the Indians gave up in the deal, has an .872 OPS in AAA Toledo.

Speaking to Willi Castro and the Indians overall hitting philosophy consider this.....

Castro's OPS w/ CLE: .633, .633, .654, .761, .653

Castro's OPS w/ DET: .928, .872

How does a guy go from a .650 OPS to .900 basically overnight? Fuck.

I am not super worried about it, since we have a fair amount of prospects, Mathias, Freeman, Clement etc all in the same position as Castro so we did trade from a strength for a proven MLB guy. We also have to remember, we don't know how much of Martin's illness caused his troubles this season plus Martin was used way way too much against lefties. He has never been played as a non-platoon style of guy and we were playing him everyday, plus a bad start with the entire team I think took a toll on him mentally. The trade didn't work out, but we made the right move at the time and thats all that matters from my perspective since the FO is trying its best to make a legit team in Cleveland, year in and year out.

Also it is very possible maybe that why he was the target in the trade, maybe the scouts/coaches in Detroit saw an issue with Castro and felt they could fix it and did once he got with them. I mean we stole Clev from the Angels lol

In '16, when WS Game 7 was in Cleveland, 10 of 1st 21 picks in draft were Pitchers. Those P's have 1 MLB win. Tribe took Civale in 3d round, Bieber in 4, Plesac in 11, and they have 9 wins, a 3.32 ERA, 148-29 K/BB ratio, 9 wins

More of a fun fact.

The 2016 MLB draft class has combined for 11.6 rWAR to this point.

Indians players make up 4.4 of that, or 38%. And that's without any of their "top prospects" making it up to this point. And there's at least 4 guys who have legit chances of being in the MLB at some point, between Jones, Benson, Krauth, and Burgos. And that's not including Conner Capel, who the Indians drafted and traded for Mercado, who is in AAA right now and is knocking on the door.

The '16 Class has the potential to be an all-time great for the Indians. Bieber has FOR/TOR potential, Plesac and Civale look to be MLB starters, Benson and Jones should have a real future in the team too. And I think they traded one of their picks for Mercado who, IMO, was a steal for this system.

Think Bauers worth is still real high? I know the contract and his stuff is great, but he is off this year.
He keeps screwing around with his pitches. The athletic or 538 had an article about him continually trying to change the spin on his curve, and then he works on it during games.

The article was much more positive about it, but they crushed aside that he was shelled when tinkering.

At some point he needs to focus in on pitching and winning rather than experimentation for a team that needs quality starts for him.

Absolutely. Look at the Archer deal last summer. Add in the lack of front-line SP available and the Indians should be able to get a haul for him. And I think they should - that's a deal I think they can make that helps the future and, if they do it right, theyncan still contend with now.

Carlos Carrasco was in the locker room Saturday morning. The Indians put him on the injured list with an unspecified blood condition on June 5.
“He’s making progress," said Antonetti. "He’s working through his treatment and that’s really all I can say. Beyond that, we really can’t elaborate a whole lot, other than he’s doing well.”
It’s still unclear if Carrasco will be able to pitch again this year.
Corey Kluber, recovering from a broken right forearm, will undergo a series of MRIs next week to see how his broken ulna bone is healing.
“He needs to get a series of scans and continue to first make sure the bone’s fully healed,” said Antonetti. “Then once it is we need to continue to build up volume and stress on the arm and that’s what we’re doing now. Hopefully at some point next week he’ll begin throwing.”
Kluber was injured on May 1 when he was hit by a line drive.
Right-hander Dan Otero, on the injured list with a sore right shoulder, threw a bullpen session earlier in the week at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, but had a setback. Antonetti said he’ll be shut down for couple of days.

This is more about the Twins than us. Basically they're doing what we used to do: beat the hell out of bad teams. But their record against better teams seems inconclusive, at best. I'm not saying they'll implode, but I'm wondering if things will tighten up. They've got some series v. Rangers, Yankees, and Braves coming up in July. Anyway, it's another reason for us to stay the course, bring up guys like Bradley, and hope we get healthier.
