Your game of the year 2015.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Second is Mario Maker... I got three medals as i have no friends...

Great game. We are probably the only people that play this game on this board lol. We should at least share our levels with each other.

I may look into getting into the Uncharted as I have never played one and heard they are nice. And the 4th one comes out in April.

Do this. Really fun games to play. If you like Indiana Jones then these should be up your alley.

My game of the year though is Yoshi's Wooly World. It's a really colorful world, and a fun game to play. Getting all the collectibles to unlock all the levels and all the Yoshis adds a high level of challenge as well. Have put a ton of hours into this with my wife.

What does everyone think of The Last of Us? Is it really that great how everyone is making it?

They are in a prestigious technical school which is essentially an art institute.

The main protagonist does look young, but the fact that sex is a primary theme of the game does pretty strongly suggest they are adults.

They are undoubtedly adults. The main character's journal states that she's 18.

The way I understood the school from LiS is that it was college prep school for students who are 18+ during their senior HS year or who have already graduated HS, are 18+ and are going to the school as extra incentive to get into their desired college programs.

I thought they handled the sexual themes very well in this game since they were coming from a really dark place with them. I don't feel like any character was overtly sexualized in the same stereotyped ways games from the past have done. Which is a good thing imo regarding story telling in games, would love to see more games take on some of the mature content LiS attempted to tackle through Dotnod's story telling.

(Remember Me was the game Dotnod made before LiS. It is were they first started playing with the rewind mechanic idea. Worth a play if it's not one people have gotten to yet. Was on last gen so should be super cheap in the Game stop bargain bins or on Steam)

Witcher 3 was an ocean for me, rest the games were like a creek or inflatable pool

I did enjoy Her Story on steam strangely, think that was a 2015 title

I didn't get the impression they were going to go to college after attending that institute. I don't want to spoil the game, but I believe the point of the school was to learn art and start a career - and it seems that actually happens to the protagonist in a particular worldline.

Very good point, I was looking at more along the lines of a prep school than a technical school. It's also really hard to talk about this game without spoiling it.

Not from this year, but I'd have to say my all-time favorite VA in a videogame award goes to Stephen Merchant in Portal 2. He killed that role.

By the way, I think the main thing that annoys me about Life is Strange is that the kids in it are supposed to be 18 but they look 13. I had no idea they were in college (the game calls it something else, and some of the other lingo is a bit off as well, I assume because the developer is French) until I read my character's journal.

I really like the guy from Portal 2, it was really well done don't get me wrong. I just think the emotion that Birch conveyed over the course of LiS was superior for a VA. That display of the emotional depth of a character is why I'd pick Birch's work in LiS over just about any VA performance throughout the last decade.

I liked LiS a lot, but it had a few issues that seriously bothered me. The story itself is compelling, but the actual writing (i.e. dialogue) was pretty weak, and at times it was downright cringe-worthy. Additionally, despite the very nice visual fidelity of the game, the lip sync made this game difficult at times for me to enjoy. That said, the story itself is great, the cinematography is really nice, and the voice acting is really good (on the whole). It also has had some of the most gut wrenching decisions I have ever come across in a game. They really nailed a lot on that game.

For story games I would take Tales From the Boarderlands over LiS every time. If you like story games, especially Telltale style games, this is one hell of a game.

I have to bow out of the GoTY discussion just because I have not picked up Witcher 3 yet ( i know I know...I just didnt really like either 1 or 2).

I thought the dialogue was one of the best aspects of the game.

Imo, the Witcher 3 wouldn't just be the GotY 2015, but it would compete well against other years' GotY. An incredible achievement through the medium of video games. Also, if anyone here hasn't picked up the expansion, I highly recommend it. Best storytelling in the witcher games so far.

I think there are times when it's on and times when you can really tell that it's adult men writing for teenage girls. I also think some stuff obviously got lost in translation, but that's damn near inevitable for foreign developers. CD Projekt Red didn't nail the translation until the third Witcher game (the second wasn't bad, but the translation was inconsistent), and that surely had a much bigger budget to spend on script conversion than Life is Strange.

For me the first episode and a half weren't great dialogue wise but Dotnod learned from the mistakes they were making after each episode release which is the sign of a good Dev team imo

Dialogue was def one of the high points from episode 3 until the finale though imo

I agree with your statement...until the later part of the last episode. The games climax was undercut, for me, by the dialogue writing. Thats not to say I didn't think its a great game or even a great ending. I just was drawn out of the narrative at times by lines that made me go "Who the F is writing this?" Some narrative games can survive those moments because they have a tone or genre that is lighter. But the somber/emotional tone of this game made those moments stand out all the more for me.

Again, a big /shrug for me. Loved the story but the dialogue left me wanting.

Good to know. I've only finished the first two. I didn't think the dialogue was awful or anything, but there were times when it was noticeably awkward. Like the repeated use of "hella." I just keep thinking of that South Park episode where Cartman uses the word over and over again. :chuckle:
