Your Perfect Off Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Livingston had a terrific year. look at his stats on 82 games. I am not saying he will get maxed or anything, but I think he will get paid. That said, it might be worth our trouble to pay him on a decent 1 year with a team option. if he has another solid year, he will be a very tradeable asset for 2014/2015

Here's what I would do. I feel these are all realistic moves, despite not being sexy, blockbuster moves. I also have given consideration into our cap space and flexibility for the following offseason.

1. Draft Alex Len at #1
2. Draft Sergey Karasev at #19
3. Trade #31 and cash to Brooklyn for #22
4. Trade #22 to Phoenix for Jared Dudley
5. Trade #33 to Minnesota for Luke Ridnour and future 2nd
6. Re-sign Wayne Ellington (3 years; $10-12M)
7. Waive/trade C.J. Miles

I think Alex Len fits this team the best and is the center I think has the most two-way upside. I would take the best available wing at #19. If we bring over Karasev, great, but if he stays over in Europe for a season or two, that's fine too. It would shave a little more off of my projected cap calculations.

I think Brooklyn is a huge target for picking up another first round pick. Since #31 is essentially a late first round pick without the guaranteed money, this could be helpful for a team that is so far over the cap and doesn't care about developing rookies anyways. Phoenix is also said to be looking for another first round pick. Well, flip the BKN pick to PHX in exchange for Jared Dudley.

I really like this a lot. It gives us a quality supporting player who is on a reasonable deal for the next few seasons that can support this team with his game and mentorship. It's also why I would deal away our other second round pick for a backup PG in Ridnour. Minnesota has a glut of PGs and Ridnour is an expiring contract. He also is a veteran PG that could help Kyrie rather than another young PG that Mike Brown would have to develop. Instead of drafting more rookies, I would prefer that the Cavs use the picks on quality role players on reasonable contracts that could come in and accent the team and the talent that we already have here.

I would also evaluate the type of money Ellington is after and either sign/match a deal or let him go and keep Miles. I would keep one or the other, but not both.

PG: Kyrie Irving/Luke Ridnour
SG: Dion Waiters/Wayne Ellington
SF: Jared Dudley/Alonzo Gee/Sergey Karasev
PF: Tristan Thompson/Tyler Zeller/Mo Speights*
C: Alex Len/Anderson Varejao

2013-14 Player Salaries:

PG: ($5.61M)/($4.32M)
SG: ($3.9M)/($3.5M)
SF: ($4.25)/($3.25M)/($1.22M)
PF: ($4.1M)($1.63M)/($4.52M)*
C: ($4.44M)($9.03M)

*Assuming Speights does not opt out

Projected 2013-14 Salary Cap: $58.5M
Projected 2013-14 Salary Floor: $52.65M
Projected Total Salary 2013-14: $45.25M ($49.77M with Speights)

Players under contract next off-season:

Anderson Varejao ($9.7M) - final year of his deal; not fully guaranteed
Kyrie Irving ($7.1M) - final year of rookie deal
Tristan Thompson ($5.1M) - final year of rookie deal
Dion Waiters ($4.1M)
Alonzo Gee ($3M)* Not fully guaranteed
Jared Dudley ($4.25M)
Wayne Ellington ($4M)
Tyler Zeller ($1.7M)
Alex Len ($4.64M)
Sergey Karasev ($1.28M)

Ridnour expires and Gee could be waived.

Projected Total Salary 2014-15 (7/1): $41.87M (44.87M with Gee).

If the cap is around $60M, this would give the Cavs nearly $18M in space not counting our draft pick(s).

Thanked Gymbo for looking at Ridnour for a high second rounder. Ridnour makes a lot of sense because he is productive, can stabilize the back court as a combo guard off the bench, and doesn't mess up the 2014 cap space. This would be a perfect use of one of those second rounders to win now.

In other news, my perfect off-season from two weeks ago looks shot to shit already, aside from the wife losing ten pounds. At least the important one is still in play.

I am sticking with Porter and Dieng as my perfect draft. Ideally, we trade out the first and manage to snag porter or Bennett anyway.

As far as the rest of the offseason, I would like to see us pick up a real center. I like Monroe, and I think he has become redundant in Detroit, but hard to see us working with another team in the division. Maybe we could pick up Gortat in some kind of Phoenix trade. Beyond that, I would like to see us keep Ellington and Livingston, and let CJ, Boobie and the rat faced boy move on.

-Draft Nerlens Noel with #1 pick
-Trade 31 and 33 to Dallas for Marion and 13
-Draft Muhammad at #13
-Draft Hardaway at #19
-Sign Tony Allen
-Trade for Al Horford after Hawks sign Howard and CP3

-Draft Nerlens Noel
-Trade for 13th pick, taking on marion
-Trade 19 for Danny Granger
-Take Shabazz Muhammad at #13
-Re-sign Livingston
-Sign Greg Oden (if speights opts out)

Kyrie/Livingston
Waiters/Bazz
Granger/Marion/Gee
Thompson/Andy/Speights(option)

That's a playoff team

My dream offseason?

-Kyrie gets motivated, gets in shape and commits himself to playing defense.
-Dion's work with Chuck Ellis has made him a lights out shooter and a dynamic offensive threat with and without the ball. Also, he puts in hours on end picking Mike Brown's mind to become the best defender he can be.
-Tristan makes the full transition to shooting his FTs and jumpers with his right hand while retaining and polishing his unorthodox post/face up moves.
-Either Noel's knee checks out and we draft him, or we pick up Len with the #1 pick.
-Dion's improved shooting allows us to fill the SF spot with Al-Farouq Aminu without killing our floor spacing.
-Re-sign Shaun Livingston
-Pick up a SF at some point in the draft. I'd be happy with Karasev, Rice Jr., Snell or anybody else with a nice looking jumper and athleticism.

My ideal offseason has Waiters growing 3 inches, drafting McLemore at 1, and then the best big available at 19.

Irving/Livingston (resigned)
McLemore/Ellington (resigned)
Waiters/Gee
Thompson/Varejao
Zeller/best big available

In length, or girth?

Step 1. Draft Nerlens Noel #1 overall. His knee is clean like a baby's.
Step 2. Trade some combination of #31, #33, future mediocre pick for #13 & Marion from Dallas (because all the cool kids are doing it)
Step 3. Trade #13 + #19 to move up a few spots and draft Cody Zeller
Step 4. Trade Tyler Zeller for Jared Dudley (the Suns like Zeller, we'll pull a fast one on them and send them Tyler)
Step 5. Cut a hole in the box
Step 6. Sign Livingston for as little as possible

Depth
Irving, Livingston
Waiters, Ellington, Miles
Dudley, Marion, Gee
Thompson, Zeller,
Varejao, Noel, Speights

Between Irving, Noel and Varejao one of these guys will constantly be in a suit on the bench.

My body is ready for the 1st round exit.

Decent content, but thanked entirely because of step 5

1. Draft Alex Len at #1
2. Draft Sergey Karasev at #19
3. Trade C.J Miles, #31, cash for Caron Butler and 25 (clears up cap space for the Clippers to use to sign Pierce)
4. Draft Lucas Nogueira at #25 (stays overseas)
5. Trade 33 to Wolves for Ridnour
6. Re-sign Ellington. I think Speights opts into his contract. Sign Ronnie Brewer and Earl Watson to 1 year deals.

PG - Irving/Ridnour/Watson
SG - Dion/Ellington/Brewer
SF - Butler/Karasev/Gee
PF - TT/AV/Jones
C - Len/Speights/Zeller

I know bringing in 6 new players is a lot but I think that it's somewhat reasonable. I would trade for Dallas' pick but I think Marion could cause trouble. We keep cap flexibility and gain assests (Lucas and two decent size expiring contracts with Butler and Ridnour, both can still play)
