Cavs Trade Deadline (discussion)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That Okafor deal was made up. No substance to it. The New Orleans conversations were about Eric Gordon.

I also love this trade even more now that the Cavs can move their Miami pick up next year potentially. Going from 26-30 to 18-22 could be huge.

Loving clowns like Mannix and Ford saying we got fleeced for a guy who was long gone next year. By the way, Walton's salary next year would have gone to who exactly? Eric Gordon right? Yeahhhh...

What the crap....... pissed we still have Jamison. WTF- this and the trade exception from the beginning of the year down the tubes for nothing.

Who's our backup PG?!?!?!?!?

WHY DO I HAVE TO KEEP WATCHING HOLLINS AND HARANGODY!?!?!??!!??!?

(That's it I'm done complaining.)

Hard to be unhappy about this trade, however, watching Ryan Hollins in a Cavs uniform is enough to make anyone kick a few neighbor's dogs..:chuckles:

Neither Walton nor Kapono could get minutes for a team with one of the weakest benches in the NBA.

Bummed we still have AJ just because he is winning us games that we shouldn't be winning. I figured he'd still be here, but disappointed regardless. I was hoping for more for Sessions, but I knew this was the best we could get out of him, so I approve of the deal.

This swapping thing with the Heat pick makes it even better. Miami will most likely be better than the Lakers, so it will help us, even if it only moves the pick up a few spots (better than nothing).

Wait, why in the hell did the Nuggets trade Nene for McGee after just signing him to that huge contract this summer?

You can thank Dwight Howard for that. If he doesn't waive his ETO, he gets traded to the Nets with us facilitating and we end up with the 1st rounder that Portland got (2012 NJ, top 3 protected).

Still a good deadline for the Cavs.

I feel like that pick would have gone to Orlando.

Both deals/players were talked about..

Orlando was probably going to get Lopez and Brooks, but the Cavaliers were going to be able to facilitate taking bad contracts from both teams and would have been rewarded handsomely for making the trade work.

While I am disappointed that Jamison wasn't moved, I can't be too upset. The guy does have one of the largest contracts in the NBA and a lot of teams still have their amnesty cards. It probably was difficult to get teams to bite on him. And even the ones that did would likely be contenders looking for a piece. To make sense to get something of value for him a third team would have likely had to have been involved, making the trade even harder to complete.

I hated Sessions last year, but he did make some nice improvements to his game. However, I do not think he will ever find long term success with any particular franchise. I hope that he does, but I just don't see him contributing to winning team basketball. Moving a guy likely to opt out looking in the neighborhood of $7-10M for 1.5 picks (I consider the pick swap next year another 0.5 of a pick) is a coup. Imagine if the Cavs had to settle for Jonny Flynn. Or not trading Sessions at all.

We got spoiled with that incredible Baron Davis deal last year and found ourselves wanting more. And that's understandable as fans. Luke Walton may never even step foot in the Q. Depending on a buyout, we would get some cap space back next year (as the buyout would be split). Or we retain him as an expiring contract following the season this summer. There are still albatross deals in the NBA in Walton's contract's price range (Trevor Ariza, for example). It's going to be very interesting to see how the rest of this season shakes out and what the FO is going to do moving forward.

I've been very pleased with this organization top to bottom from the ownership group to the front office to the coaching staff. If they keep making progress like this, the Cavs will be contending sooner rather than later.

Ok so we get both picks! Man that is a great trade by CG. I have to give him props for pulling off that fleecing of the Lakers. You know what could happen is Sessions could leave the Lakers next year leaving them with no viable option at the point, and thus making their team worse.

A very realistic thing that could happen next year is Kobe is another year older = worse player than current version, Pau is another year older = worse than this year, Bynum could get hurt, and Sessions could leave. That could mean a top 20 pick next year. Trading the 28thish pick in the draft for a top 20 is a great deal.

Damn that would have been beyond nice. More reason to hate Dwight Howard.
