While I am disappointed that Jamison wasn't moved, I can't be too upset. The guy does have one of the largest contracts in the NBA and a lot of teams still have their amnesty cards. It probably was difficult to get teams to bite on him. And even the ones that did would likely be contenders looking for a piece. To make sense to get something of value for him a third team would have likely had to have been involved, making the trade even harder to complete.
I hated Sessions last year, but he did make some nice improvements to his game. However, I do not think he will ever find long term success with any particular franchise. I hope that he does, but I just don't see him contributing to winning team basketball. Moving a guy likely to opt out looking in the neighborhood of $7-10M for 1.5 picks (I consider the pick swap next year another 0.5 of a pick) is a coup. Imagine if the Cavs had to settle for Jonny Flynn. Or not trading Sessions at all.
We got spoiled with that incredible Baron Davis deal last year and found ourselves wanting more. And that's understandable as fans. Luke Walton may never even step foot in the Q. Depending on a buyout, we would get some cap space back next year (as the buyout would be split). Or we retain him as an expiring contract following the season this summer. There are still albatross deals in the NBA in Walton's contract's price range (Trevor Ariza, for example). It's going to be very interesting to see how the rest of this season shakes out and what the FO is going to do moving forward.
I've been very pleased with this organization top to bottom from the ownership group to the front office to the coaching staff. If they keep making progress like this, the Cavs will be contending sooner rather than later.
