The 2013 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yesterday was fun. But the Cleveland fan in me isn't really that excited yet. Champagne? I'll crack a bottle if we win Wednesday night.

I guess I'm just nervous that we lose Wednesday and all the celebrating was for one friggin game. Wednesday night is going to be incredibly stressful to watch.

Great regular season though. Really battled through the type of adversity that derailed our seasons the past few years and put together a hell of a year.

I'm just happy we have a good team. Win or lose it looks like we got people running things that know what they are doing.

:chuckles: It's the same people we've had running things since 2002...

Actually, this is only Antonetti's 3rd year as GM after Shapiro got bumped upstairs to keep him away from the roster.

Indians finish one spot out of taking the division. Makes the way Detroit manhandled us hurt a bit. That said, we win the wild card game and it won't matter to me.

It's hard for me to look back at what could have been when we had so many other things go our way to get where we are.

Baseball is, by far, the hardest sport to get the post-season. It should be celebrated, even if after 1 game it is over.

It's been 6 years since the Tribe played October baseball. Soak it in, hope for the best and most certainly have fun.

Will I be stressed on Wednesday? Sure but this team embodies everything Cleveland is about.

They're scrappy, they have fun and they have a ton of heart.

Oh, and the last time a rookie phenom jumpstarted Cleveland in to the post-season it was a pretty great ride....

Four games stick out to me...
1) Game 1 vs. Tigers
2) Game 3 vs. Tigers
3) Game 3 vs. Red Sox
4) Game 4 vs. Red Sox

Those were, for me, the four toughest losses of the season. Especially those two Red Sox games. The Yankees are one thing, that 1-6 record was horrible and this current team wouldn't lose to the Yankees. The Indians should've gone 3-4 against the Red Sox and that team wasn't playing like they are now. One reason why, if they win Wednesday, I have hope for the Tribe.

At least he was cast in a movie. Shapiro will have that over most everybody in baseball.

If I were Shapiro I'd be pumped to be portrayed by Kellerman from "Homicide: Life on the Street."

I think it's funny that people hate Shapiro so much.

I wonder how much they will hate him when he becomes the next commissioner.

I don't hate Shapiro. He's good at his current job, he was just a bad GM. He has good connections around the league though and was a major reason we were able to bring in Francona.

What does Shapiro even DO in his current job?

I'm sure b00bie could give you a more detailed and accurate description than I, but it's my understanding that the team President has a lot more to do with the business side of things along with developing relationships around the league. Regardless, the primary point was that he hasn't had control of the roster since the end of the 2010 season.

Hmmm... I don't think he will be the pick. My list...

1) Bob Bowman, MLB Advanced Media
2) Robert Manfred, MLB Executive VP of Economics and Legal Affairs
3) Dave Dombrowski, Tigers President and CEO

This pretty much sums it up.

He's moved somewhat away from baseball operations and let Antonetti handle that aspect of the organization. Obviously he's still there to provide counsel for that department, but he's playing a bigger role in marketing/fan experience and trying to get ahead in that area. It's something a lot of teams are doing based on the overwhelming consensus that people are losing interest in baseball and they need to figure out every way possible to keep fans coming to games.

I kinda hope Shappy doesn't get pegged as the next Commissioner... I like him and would like to keep him around.
