Athletes You Have Met

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I actually have met tons of players. My friends and I get autographs during the NBA season in certain places on game days.

Lots of players are complete dicks.

Overall I've met hundreds of NBA players including LeBron, KD, Dirk, Nash, CP3, Rondo, DRose, Pierce... ton of guys

I'd say Garnett, LeBron, and Kobe are the least friendly. Durant and Kyrie are two of the nicest. Actually got 24 autographs from Kyrie last season :chuckles: ....

I could probably go through the whole Cavs roster on who is nice and who isn't lol. Jarrett Jack and CJ Miles are both really nice. Bynum really hasn't been, but now that he's here he might be easier. Zeller is a dick. Luke Walton is sometimes a dick lol

Only other guys outside of that I can think of was seeing Cribbs at a Longhorn a few years ago. Real nice dude

I hate to say it but after dealing with alot of players in a more private type setting(hotel) they tend to be more dickish towards autograph seekers. Only b/c a vocal minority come across as rude and demanding when it comes to having items signed. I could see it in their eyes when getting off the bus, that "Oh shit, here's the same asshole out here as last time looking to sell that b-ball with my name on it on ebay". Half the players would keep their headphones on and look straight ahead or down, while others would just hurridly say, "gotta meeting, catch me later". Once inside the hotel and not getting harrassed, players and coaches were friendly, cordial, and talkative b/c they didn't have to worry about being approached by someone with an armful of goods to be signed and not have the courtesy to even say thank you.

Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Virgil at various signings. Eve & Maria after a WWE show at the Q :)drool:)

How long did you have to wait to meet Virgil?

Lonely Virgil

Last weekend I saw Greg Oden at Flannagan's, a swim-up pool bar in Columbus. Nice guy but man, he looked lanky as hell and not even close to playing shape. Drinking beers and eating pizza crust like he was there isn't gonna help either.... the dude needs to add a lot of muscle to get back to how he looked when dominant with the Buckeyes.

Ill rank in terms of awe I had when I met them:

Lebron James: 3 times. Book Signing, Waited on him, and in our Casino.
Each time he was a douche bag. His tip did suck, it was 5% on a $140 bill, his boys knocked me over the casino, and he repeatedly said the accepted version of the N word in front of a s**t ton of kids at his book signing.

Omar Vizquel: I was 6, and the Tribe was awesome. My uncle took me to work one day as a surprise, he was building his house.

Shaq: Ran into him in Bay in a parking lot. He was looking for a place to stay after he was traded here.

CM Punk: After a house show in Toledo in 09? He wasnt a vegan at the time, and he was with a jobber. They were low key at a bar & grill, so I picked up their bill (I knew the owner would cut me a break). They thanked me and took some pics with me. Hell of a guy. We talked about the upcoming Marvel movie situation.

JJ Hickson: He was with AP, Andy, Moon, and 1 other player at a signing. JJ looked pissed as hell. Ignorant prick. I said JJ its not that bad, you could be in Toronto. He gave me a death stare. So when I took my jersey up there to get it signed, he scribbled the worst signature I have ever seen.

Dennis Eckersley: He was a close personal friend of my grandfather. Ive met him more times than I can count. He was polite up until I hit about 11. Anytime I try to talk to him now, hes a dick. Too many divorces and tanning.

Jim Thome: Nice guy. Met him twice while he played here in the original run.

Darius Miles: At a Steak N Shake. I wished him good luck with the rest of his Cavalier career.....no joke....he was traded 2 days later.

Scott Hall: Saddest celeb meet ever. He looked boozed up, and slurring his words at a bar in Columbus in 2011. I didnt know his situation as well as I do now, but I asked for a Razor impression bc no one was paying to much attention to him. He said only if I bought him a shot. I said for a shot, I better get a full promo & a pic. He laughed and obliged.

Ive seen various Browns downtown, but anytime Ive had to interact with them has been short. I havent been to impressed with their overall character. They all seem to be out drinking a lot.

First, great thread.

I've met a handful or two of guys, but my favorite was Austin Carr. Anyone who likes Winking Lizard in Bedford knows that he's there quite often. My fiance didn't believe that it was him. He was just hanging out with a few buddies getting food. I pulled up and showed her this photo:

So, she's pretty bold. She walked up to him and said, "my fiance said that you were this guy and I didn't believe him!" He graciously said something along the lines of, "ya, that's me when I had some hair." He was as kind as can be and took pictures with them and I shook his hand. The guy seemed genuinely nice and appreciated our encounter. Crazy and hard to describe, but I took a picture of her with him and in the background, on a wall full of old license plates, only one plate was legible from the shine of the camera. It was a license plate that read "Box Carr". It was odd, but pretty cool.

Thats who I forgot. He does the hair line all the time. My mom asked for his autograph at some Cleveland thing about 7 years ago, and he mentioned it. He did the same thing when I got his jersey signed.

Also: dunked on in a pick up game by Ricky Davis when I was 14. Needless to say he was an ass.

<-- Freddy B.

Super bowl MVP, HOFer, from my home town and high school. He's the reason I grew up loving and still do the Raiders. Got to sit down with him at a local bar last year for over an hour. Drank beer, talked Raiders and even went out and smoked a cig with him. Won his jersey and he signed it. Pretty cool and down to earth guy.

I actually have that exact picture signed by AC from when I met him lol

I've gotten hundreds of autographs at the hotel. Most players are actually just as friendly there as at the arena.

When I was a kid I was very lucky to meet a bunch of great athletes. I was back in Cleveland this summer and my mom asked me to take some memorabilia home to Cali... found autographs I forgot about. I still left them back in Cleveland, San Francisco is no place for storage.

I won't talk about all the memorabilia, but two stood out when I went back to Cleveland:

One was a program from an awards ceremony with Bill Belichick's autogragh. Bostonians everywhere must be wondering why I have it, and how much I paid. He actually had to interview someone close to me earlier that year... asked him questions on his short lived local show "The Bill Belichick Show". Bill was too young a head coach to say no to stuff like that at first. It will never happen again. Anyway, he was gruff to the person he interviewed and gruff to me, but I wouldn't have gotten the autograph without such a warm, fuzzy personal connection to the dry fuck.

My favorite autograph I found in my parent's house was Robert Smith, the all-time leading Minnesota Vikings rusher and greatest Euclid High athlete of all time. Well, it was my first or second game as a ballboy... Robert Smith, as a sophomore, ran a sweep towards my sideline. I was in fifth grade, wasn't smart enough to run like hell when the best sprinter in Cleveland runs a sweep at you. My team tackled him right into my lower calf five feet out of bounds.

I reminded him of that when he was a senior at an awards ceremony, and I was sure he was going to be a great pro running back. We had a nice talk, I was surprised that he was a bit introverted. Still a fan of Smith when he appears on ESPN.

Plenty others, but I like keeping my sources a little vague.

Re: Josh Gordon discussion

FUCK JOSH GORDON

He had a signing scheduled in the mall where people could come and get autographs for 20 bucks.

So me and 3 buddies were going to go, and I bought us 50 fucking dollars worth of photos to get signed, and now he fucking cancels because he wants to get paid more

Completely lost respect for him

Re: Josh Gordon discussion

Autographs are overrated

Re: Josh Gordon discussion

How do you know he cancelled because of money?
