MF Jones seemed to be relaying less from his CLE source, and more trying to sound like a draft guru today on twitter IMO. I can't get into the scout forums today, but I remember a couple premium nuggets about how Farmer was believed to have Bridgewater as his top QB, and was not going to spend the #4 pick on Clowney.
There was also some back & forth about Clowney's 21 bench reps at the Combine; the pro-Clowney camp blamed the pedestrian rep performance on his long-ass arms, but the detractors cite his lack of dedication to the weight room. Quinn had 22 reps a couple years ago, and turned out pretty solid IIRC. Clowney's game seems more predicated on explosion over strength, but the 'lack of weight room time' narrative seems to jive with his questionable work ethic. I did some brief digging, looking for some #s from Clowney in the weight room, and could only find a 350# power clean from last year. Legit number, but I couldn't find anything on squat, bench, etc.
I'm a huge Bortles fan, and I've had great views of all the UCF home games; however, I never thought he'd have the polished skills necessary to be a top pick this year. I thought of him more as a very good prospect, who projects very well to the NFL game. If Bridgewater isn't there, I would be happy getting BB at #4 knowing we have Hoyer who can keep a clipboard in BBs hands with decent play.
I'm with b00bie about Watkins at four, as well; no reason to spend a top four pick on WR2, when the WR positional depth is as good as I've seen it in years. We still have a legit chance at getting a guy like Beckham at 26, but getting a guy like the Vanderbilt kid in the 2nd would be a home run.
As of 2/23, my dream scenario (which I reserve to change) is:
4) Bridgewater (Bortles, OT, Clowney)
26) BPA
2nd) Matthews WR Vandy
3rd) RB
