Re: Cavs 2014 Coaching Search

When Griffin says they are in no real rush to hire a replacement does that really mean everyone keeps saying no?

Either that or these hack writers are just making it seem like that by working their way down the list coaching options that we had no chance at and then stating they turned us down.

Bring in George Karl as head coach, and Hollins as an assistant?

They're probably waiting for the Finals to end first. I'm sure there are possible candidates that are still playing.

Griffin was interviewed at the combine and said that they could hire someone early in the process or later in the process.

I think coaching candidates would be interested to see the results of the draft lottery (however small the Cavs chances are). And some NBA assistant coaches are still busy with their own playoff goals. So, I don't think there is urgency for this to be resolved immediately. Other teams have had a head-start of several weeks, and many haven't filled their positions.

The answer probably lays somewhere down the middle.

My guess is they're "gauging" the interest of their candidates; with some candidates being interested and some declining. They will then start formally interviewing the interested parties somewhere down the line.

Re: Cavs 2014 Coaching Search

The Cavs made a quick hire last time and how did that work out? I'm fine with taking some time and finding the right fit who wants to be here and coach here. The Cavs can't screw up this hire.

Re: Cavs 2014 Coaching Search

I figure the Heats playoff run is also a factor with the James issue. If he comes back, the coach and the roster will probably be very different than if we go with the Irving/Waiters/Bennett nucleus(I suspect 2 of them will be traded if James returns).

Re: Cavs 2014 Coaching Search

They are not hiring anyone until they see what happens to the Heat. Not sure why we are pretending this is a big secret.

Re: Cavs 2014 Coaching Search

If they are doing that, I think Fizdale is their main target.

Re: Cavs 2014 Coaching Search

I hope we get Adrian Griffin. If Thibs loves him, he must be awesome. Thibs don't mess around!

But this has probably run him into the ground just like his players. He's got him diagramming plays till he get carpel tunnel and dragging guys to shoot at the gym at 3am

If he was an assistant with any other team in the league would he be on any Cavs fan radar?

Nope but you have to compete in your division first and foremost so hey.

Mike Brown messed up giving coaches the benefit of the doubt because they did well as an assistant thing for me. Id rather get a coach whose been a pro head coach before.

Re: Cavs 2014 Coaching Search

I posted this name elsewhere last week and thought I'd bring him up again as a coach the Cavs should at least consider and look into. David Blatt. An American coaching overseas who has been a highly successful championship coach and is well respected. His name has been connected to NBA jobs in the past and he did just win another Euroleague championship over the weekend with a roster that was thought to be less talented than other teams competing. Supposed to be solid in coaching both ends of the floor and getting the most out of his talent.
Not saying he should be the guy but I'm in favor of a wide ranging search rather than only going down the same old path.

Besides a connection to Lebron, what does fizdale bring to the table in terms of coaching? Leadership? C's and O's? I know nothing about him and am really curious
