2015 NBA Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ugh, what?

You and others just argued the Cavs should get no credit for picking consensus number 1 picks who were already studs.

Ok, here is a non-consensus pick who has turned out pretty productive after years of development. Do the Cavs get any credit for that pick and development or not?

Ummm...... no..

As others have already said, Thompson at #4 made no fucking sense with better players still on the board. Your argument would be rational if Thompson somehow was outplaying any of the guys he was picked ahead of.

I mean, I must be missing your point, unless you really think Tristan was the right pick at #4.

I will give them some credit. Only problem is despite the climaxing over Tristan Thompson worldwide now that people actually, like, got to see him play since the Cavs were in the Finals again, TT is still a very similar player to what he is when he came into the league. has he developed any sort of offensive game whatsoever? Not...really. He pretty much is what he is, a hustle/motor (ugh) guy who rebounds and, to an extent, defends.

Certainly not a bad pick and he has improved in those aspects of his game, but he has hardly developed into anything resembling a star caliber player and by all accounts if he gets the contract he wants, he is going to be vastly overpaid for his impact.

Would he get this contract if he didn't share agents with that other dude on our team?

Haywood can't be traded on draft day anyways, his $10 million cap number isn't effective until July 1st.

If we were going to take a PF-type player I would have preferred grabbing Montrezl Harrell at 31 and then just taking Mr. Osman at 36.

Harrell works his ass off. Christmas...not so much.

Not tongue and cheek at all. I've been saying this for a long time. Wrote a long post about it last week.

We have demonstrated no ability to utilize the draft.

Guys in this thread are saying the same shit they said when we picked Thompson, Waiters, and Bennett. I understand optimism, but blind faith is ridiculous. If we're just going to rationalize whatever the front office does, we might as well not post anything.

But is it really going to kill you to wait like 5 seconds before you pass judgement on these players?

As I said a couple days ago, as long as Blatt is here we will probably be digging into Europe a lot because he knows the good players over there. This is the one area where his extensive European background helps us.

As far as Christmas, he looks like a player that can come in and defend, rebound, and maybe actually do something in this post. That's not a bad thing for a 5th big.

Its not just Lebron, the Cavs for the most part the last 10 years have traded pretty well
Exceptionally well.

Without trading for Baron Davis & the pick that became Kyrie Irving, LeBron is not a Cavalier right now...

Karasev was a starter on Brooklyn's team last year. The only bust was Bennett and he has more talent in his little finger than Tristan has in his whole body.

Delly counts as a talent evaluation win too.

I think they did a decent job of turning lemons into lemonade. Obviously it would've been easier to package the Haywood contract with #24 if an intriguing talent had slipped down the board. Unfortunately alot of good talent was snatched up just before our pick.

Couldn't this be said for any franchise that gets a once in a generation player?

Who did the Lakers draft during Kobe's prime years that did anything?

Being in win now mode is not conducive to acquiring talent via the back end of the draft. Most teams with someone as good as LeBron use FA or trades to bolster the roster.

I'm not absolving them of some of the absolute bombs early in LeBron's career but we got so good, so quick with LBJ that we didn't really have a chance to stockpile younger players. 1 of those early years we didn't have a pick and by 22, he made his first finals appearance. At that point, there was no turning back.

The Lakers had/have the luxury of free agency basically being an additional draft for them since they can attract megastars the way most franchises can only find these players at the top of the draft.

There are plenty of excuses you can use to, as you say, absolve the Cavs of their numerous drafting errors over the years. At some point, you have to hold people responsible though.

On that note... I'm out.

holy fuck... Lol! You trippin' Cavatt. You still cool in my book, but damn... Lol..

Did u forget klay Thompson kawhi and Jimmy butler all went after him who are all better players now and project to be better in the future

Jesus god. Jimmy Butler? 30th pick of the 1st round.

So is that the standard? If there are ANY players picked after your selection that turn out better than the guy you chose, you can't scout, draft, or develop? Is that the argument?

So then I guess the Nuggets messed up when they took Carmelo? After all, Dwyane Wade was still available.
