Championship Parade/Rally

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you're a parent that complains about your kids hearing swearing in public, then you had better never, ever swear in front of them. Of course, the majority of parents who complain about this swear in front of their kids and do it often.

In a world where we critique each other until we want to peck each others eyes out, I felt pretty relieved that LeBron just shot the shit with us as a people.

Would you prefer he come out and say the same things as anybody ever?

Probably not.

There's something to be said when someone comes out in front of almost 2 million people and talks to them as if he is one of them in celebration.

I honestly like him even more for it.

Motherfuckers.

I just do not really get the complaints over Lebron's language. I mean he wasn't using any of them in an angry or derogatory way and in the grand scheme of things the words he used were pretty tame, so I don't see why people are angry.

Seeing a lot of angry people on twitter about LeBron's speech. A lot of people brought their kids out there just to hear so much profanity.

It's been 52 years...gotta expect the players to be a little more candid. I'm sure his heart was/is in the right place.
A lot of people can shut the fuck up

Do we have a final, official count? Reading through the thread I saw 1.3 and 2 million thrown around...

There are thousands of people lined up for the parade who are NOT on the parade route

Back home now. I went up to one family to let him know he was setting up in the wrong place. The dad just argued with me. I wonder what he ended up doing.

Here's my best recollection of the day today...

Arrived at my (poorly) chosen spot to watch the parade at around 8:30. I parked close to The Flat Iron Cafe and walked up. No problems going there or back. I ended up on East 9th almost across from the Galleria. There were a bunch of people who were there really early that grabbed choice seats (or so they thought). I found two older ladies in motorized carts and my friend and I grabbed spots behind them knowing they weren't standing anytime soon.

Weather was warm but there was shade where we were, so it wasn't so bad. As the sidewalk and parts behind were filling up to capacity, randoms would be walking back and forth in the street. It was finny at first as they pretended to be in the parade, but after a while, those people started to congregate and just stand in the street. Now there was a second line of people about 6-8 feet in front of us going 5-6 deep. First of all, it sucked because these bastards didn't put in the time to get a good spot, but they grabbed one anyway. Secondly, as was mentioned before, they totally impeded to flow of the parade. At one point, the mounted police went side by side down the street getting people out of the way. The problem was that once they passed, those people went right back to their old spots. In general, the cops did nothing. How there weren't those portable metal fence sections around the parade route is beyond me.

The parade was cool enough when it was moving. We got to see:
-Urban Meyer, Thad Matta, and Gene Smith go by.
-Jim Brown - he was giving some sort of speech, but his microphone wasn't working. We gave a sympathy clap, pretending to hear what he was saying.
-Gordon Gund went by and nobody around me noticed who he was. I yelled, "Congrats, Mr. Gund!" and he totally looked at me like I was the first person to realize who he was. I waved but felt like an asshole for doing so.
-Vehicles with people nobody knew went by several times.
-The Larry O'Brien trophy has no friends.
-The players, except for Moz and Kaun, rode on trucks with an entire entourage.
-Lebron was really hard to see. He was way too low. That sucked.

My friend and I said "fuck it" and moved into the street to get closer to the action. Of course, there was trashy girl sitting on her BF's shoulders. We were heckling her. It was like, "Ummm...you're 35. Get the fuck out of the way."

Anyways...for as crappy as some of the management of the parade was, I am so glad that I went. I am also so glad I decided to leave my kid at home.

Can you see the opening where the parade goes? That's because it wasn't there.

I mean... people that get faux offended at a few swear words, especially ones used in context.. can just get bent. I swear I'll never understand why some people walk around so uptight.. but guess what? The rest of us don't have to be.

Do we have a final, official count? Reading through the thread I saw 1.3 and 2 million thrown around...
Whether it's 1.3 or 2... we pretty much had the biggest sports related parade ever.

To put that into perspective, the religious pilgrimage of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, drew about 14 million Muslims in 16 days in 2015 which was actually a 40% increase from previous years.

We are a small city located in a small state that's ranked 34th in the country in size.

We're fucking nuts and in the best way possible.

I am really hoping that we'll be able to completely re-watch the parade coverage in it's entirety. I would sit for 4 hours and seriously watch it all again.

Sometimes when I was having a really bad day, I'll load up videos of LeBron's return videos, the party in Akron......

I could re-live this time and time again, I really wish this never had to end.

If anybody could find a complete re-airing of the parade coverage by FSO I would really appreciate it.
