Kevin Durant Leaves OKC- Joining Warriors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not that educated on the subject, can anyone explain to me why are we so sure Ezeli and/or Barbosa are gone?

The have to sign Durant under the salary cap of $94.1M.

The only way to do that is to let other players go. They cannot exceed the cap and sign a free agent.

I cringe hard every time I read one of those Players Tribune articles, because it's transparently-clear that all of them are ghostwritten for the players.

Uh, what? I'm supposed to believe Kevin Durant wrote that?

Well, understood and cognitively is redundant. Sounds like someone trying to be smart.

WHAT. A. BITCH.

Miami ruined the NBA when they joined forces to create a superteam. Now everyone else is following their lead. No competitiveness.
In a way, Boston started this. The reason why it will never be panned as much as LeBron's decision or KD's decision was because it was a move made strictly by the front office. People don't like when the players are in control. Even with the owners giving the players these contracts the narrative over the last couple of days has been about players being overpaid.

From the competitive aspect, I think this is a worse move than LeBron joining Miami because this is the team that beat him in the playoffs. Still I understand that he badly wants to win but it's time for the heat to be on him like it's been on LeBron for years despite winning championships.

I think OKC and their ownership is to blame for not somehow bringing in more talent. Yes Westbrook is an elite player and Harden at times has been a great player in OKC and Houston but I feel like OKC is a cheap team. They were unwilling to go over the luxury tax and spend to make sure they did everything to win. People were criticizing Gilbert even when we won the championship but he deserves tons of credit for spending the money to build a championship team. Let's never take that for granted.

But was there a specific announcement that Ezeli is released?

Ezeli and Barnes RFAs, they don't need to be released. The Warriors can just renounce their rights.

Kyrie and LBJ especially Kyrie IMO have proved to be more clutch then anyone in GS in the finals... I'm gonna enjoy this title... Watch the regular season and let things unfold.. The Champs are here...in Cleveland

They both have cap holds. Have to renounce their rights to free up room to sign KD.

They can come back for vet min only now, thus they are gone.

Not that I've heard. I believe the talk is someone will make an offer for Ezeli that is too rich for the Warriors to match given their new salary situation. So, he will likely be gone.

Isn't Bogut's contract enough to unload?

No,

Have to renounce all of the cap holds too. Barbosa made 2.5, cap hold is 20% more, Barbosa alone puts them over.

They are going to be crazy thin, but crazy good with their top 6.

One thing we are forgetting is Kyrie is only 24 and made a huge leap forward in the playoffs on play on the defensive end and offensive end.

I think Kyrie moves into the top 5 in the league discussion now and Lebron is still best.

I hate KD to GS, but lets not sleep on our Cavs, they are going to be better also.

I don't think so. But regardless, as Lee states; to sign Durant, it necessitates their renouncing of rights over their free agents. So if Ezeli comes back to the Warriors, it would need to be via the use of an exception.
