It is called being fair. I'm sure a lot of teams want him. Heck I do because I have a wide open gap at small forward.
NBA Trades are often not fair. Sometimes old teammates or friends just like to help each other out.
McHale and Danny Ainge(KG deal)
Kupchak and Jerry West(Pau deal)
The fact that Gay might be on the trading block, it's only fitting that extremely close bonds of male familiarity and friendship might be the deciding factor in what deal gets made. Though I think "favors" fall outside the scope of salary cap and CBA rules.
I'm not in the market for Gay though, so however it goes down doesn't concern me much.
