2017 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'll be shocked if the Browns draft a Center at all, let alone early.

I'll be shocked if the Browns draft a Center at all, let alone early.

I feel that the coaching staff is giving Erving his run to see what he does. There's been flashes with all the bad, though I hated the pick when it happened.

If they see a center in the mid rounds they'll take him if they don't believe Erving is the one. My belief.

This was BEFORE last nights game:

Cleveland Browns

1st Round, No. 1 overall- Myles Garrett, Edge, Texas A&M

1st Round, No. 9 overall (via Phi)- Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

2nd Round, No. 33 overall- DeShaun Watson, QB, Clemson

2nd Round, No. 53 overall (via Tenn)- Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State

The Browns are loaded with picks in the first two rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft. They have a great opportunity to really change the fortune of the franchise. This mock draft gives them two immediate contributors in Myles Garrett and Leonard Fournette.

Garrett is a dynamic pass rusher who is the best player in this draft class. He combines his excellent athleticism with a non-stop motor and natural feel for the game. Fournette is an every-down back who will take pressure off of whoever is lining up under center.

DeShaun Watson gives the team a quarterback with a ton of upside. He’s stock has fallen after his inconsistencies this past year, but the raw talent still remains. Hue Jackson has proven in the past he has the ability to develop an offense to help his quarterback.

Gareon Conley is a talented defensive back who could step right in as a starter. He’d give the Browns some depth at the position should they want to explore a trade of Joe Haden.

I would be very happy with that, honestly.

Just for arguments sake: who is going to be the better pro, Myles Garrett or Joey Bosa? The Browns could have had either. And do note, if you say that they never would get the package for Garretts pick that they got for Wentz, remember: you are diminishing Garretts value and you forget how every year a qb or three rockets up boards in the 5 months between now and the draft. Who will wind up being better? Did the new FO already over think things?

Garrett, its not close. Its the difference in have a ceiling of a couple of pro bowls to being a HOFer

Did the new FO over think things? No.

I'd say this is one of the stronger free agent classes of offensive lineman in quite some time.

Andrew Whitworth
TJ Lang
JC Tretter

Would take any of these guys w/ open arms.

Don't think any team has the ammo to pull off a Rams/Titans type of trade. Except maybe the Titans with those two firsts.

It would take a lot of creativity for a team to position itself to put together a package worth forsaking Garrett for.

Building and drafting in the trenches is the way to go except of you are the Browns. That said no way is Garrett not the pick. He is beyond the rule and a true stud and only time I would not take the best QB or skill level player. If the Browns pass on him I am done, there is no way you pass on that talent. You can get a QB,OL and CB with the next three picks after Garrett just GET the guy and go from there.

FOX SPORTS (pre-this weekend):

1. Myles Garrett

The Browns have been about as awful as you get when it comes to the NFL draft. Selecting Leon McFadden before Tyrann Mathieu or Greg Little over Randall Cobb, the Browns simply don’t seem to be able to get it done in the war room.

So long as they keep the first overall pick, they have a slam dunk selection in Myles Garrett.

The EDGE position isn’t a primary need for the Browns but on a team that’s scarce in playmakers, they have to take the best player in the draft this year.

Garrett has registered over 30 sacks in his three-year career and has 47 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Production aside, there isn’t a better athlete in this year’s draft class and his projection to the NFL should be something similar to Khalil Mack and/or Von Miller. The Browns drafted Carl Nassib and Emmanuel Ogbah last year, who have paired up well with Danny Shelton.

With Ogbah and Garrett as potential pass rushers next season, and Shelton plugging the middle, the Browns could have an elite group along the line with the selection of Myles Garrett. Don’t mess this up Browns, not again.

7. Mitch Trubisky

In this version of our mock draft, Mitch Trubisky was able to fall to the Browns next selection in the first round. Per usual, the Browns have had a carousel of quarterbacks this season. Those to take a snap under center have included Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Cody Kessler, Terrelle Pryor, Charlie Whitehurst and Kevin Hogan.

Somehow the carousel made its way back to RGIII, but he hasn’t shown the kind of promise that coach Hue Jackson had once hoped for him. Kessler looks like a solid backup, McCown should be on the verge of retirement, Whitehurst was cut, Hogan was fun for one game, and Pryor should be focusing on wide receiver.

While the offensive line has been scattered in terms of health and production, a solid signal caller is what Cleveland needs moving forward. Mitch Trubisky is a one year starter from North Carolina where he’s led the Tarheels to an 8-4 record and a bowl game against Stanford on the 30th.

To this point he’s put up 3500 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions. While he’s looked great, inexperience has been the one thing that has been tagged alongside his name. If he declares and shows he can overcome that, the Browns may have a steal in the first round.

1. Cleveland Browns

Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina: If any of the quarterbacks on Cleveland's current roster had shown flashes of being a franchise savior this season, the Browns might consider taking Myles Garrett or Jonathan Allen, the best players in the draft. Barring the addition of a veteran in the offseason, the most likely scenario come spring has Cleveland giving Hue Jackson his pick of a shaky quarterback class. CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora has reported that the Browns are already honing in on Trubisky, an Ohio native and childhood Browns fan. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Trubisky has the tools and intangibles to excite but is a huge projection as an NFL franchise quarterback after only emerging UNC's starter this season.

10. Cleveland Browns (from Philadelphia)

Teez Tabor, CB, Florida: Hue Jackson and his staff deserve credit for an improving offense. The defense remains a quagmire, despite several premium draft picks being spent on the unit in recent years. With the need for an edge rusher filled with the trade for former New England Patriots standout Jamie Collins, the Browns might opt to pair Tabor with former Gators star Joe Haden to add some bite to the secondary.

B/R (post-weekend):

1. Jonathan Allen

8. DeShone Kizer

explain this to me
I thought Matt Miller did the mock, but it was someone else.

Miller is a 9ers fan and on twitter has mocked Allen to the Browns at #1. I think it's just because he is clinging to hope the 9ers get Garrett

Also from checking that full mock the guy has Peppers going #3 overall

Scholar's Mock draft...

With the first pick, Brown's select Myles Garrett. Period. Exclamation Point.

With the Philadelphia pick, Brown's select a defensive back. (insert highest back still available.)

Fixing the Browns - Bowl Game Edition:

Additions:
Terrelle Pryor - Re-Signed
Britton Colquit - Re-Signed
Austin Pasztor - Re-Signed
Jaime Collins - Franchise Tag

JC Tretter - Signed to a 4-year / $20M contract (similar to Ben Jones' deal in 2016)

Lawrence Guy - Signed to a 4-year / $40M contract

Departures:
Josh McCown
Andrew Hawkins
Cam Erving
Stephen Paea

NFL Draft:

1 (1) - Myles Garrett - EDGE - Texas A&M - Really with we got to see a more healthy product in 2016, his LSU tape is more bad than good. That said, I'm

1 (10) - Jamal Adams - SS - LSU - Classic in the box safety, with athleticism to blow through blockers and close quickly on ball carriers. With Tramon Williams proving capable at FS, the opportunity to play him as a true CF with Adams near the line is an ideal scenario.

2 (33) - Jake Butt - TE - Michigan - The more polished and versatile tight end in this class. He displays great hands and body control, willing to go into and over traffic. More capable blocker at this stage, compared to Howard and Hodges (who could also be considered here).

2 (51) - Cooper Kupp - WR - Eastern Washington - The best player the last two seasons in FCS play, Kupp brings polished route running skills and catches everything. You have Pryor and Coleman who can be gamebreakers, add Kupp who can beat you all over the field.

3 (65) - Roderick Johnson - OT - Florida State - Elite talent, but less than ideal effort and too much weight are preventing him from being a first rounder. Johnson's slow feet and inconsistent technique have seemingly dropped him down. Hoping this would be the right system and staff to turn him around. Would make a killer RT.

4 - Obi Melifonwu - S - Connecticut - Athletic freak with excellent size. The heir apparent to Tramon Williams at FS, but could see the field earlier than people think. Really is a ball finder with good instincts when it's in the air.

4 - Dwayne Thomas - CB - LSU - Putting together a solid season, and will get to stay with his teammate Adams at the next level. Good size and speed at 6', 190 and knows how to play with the ball in the air.

5 - Josh Dobbs - QB - Tennessee - Still on this train, Dobbs recently got a Senior Bowl invite so he can play himself higher if all goes well. Really think he's a coachable guy who will play better at the next level.

5 - Ryan Glasgow - DL - Another rotational DL who makes plays based off a killer motor. Building some toughness on defense.

5 - Damore'ea Stringfellow - WR - OleMiss - Stocked with great athleticism and good separation ability, you hope he can put it all together at the next level.

6 - Khalid Abdullah - RB - James Madison - Guy I've seen the last couple of weeks during the FCS Playoffs. Good size and vision to find the holes, borderline athleticism to power through them.
