Game #60 | Cavaliers (41-18) @ Hawks (34-26) | March 3, 2017 | 7:00pm ESPN

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Scored 135 and set an NBA record for 3's.....and no one is happy.

Crazy where the expectation level is during the regular season.

Only thing I even worry about is staying healthy. Defense will be fine.

It's all effort on that end and our regular season defensive effort has been awful for 2+ seasons.

We'll be wishing we were watching that 4th qt tomorrow night when Kyrie and LeBron don't play.

The Cavs defense has considerably improved in the playoffs versus their regular season numbers, Rich. I don't get why you are trying to argue that that didn't happen.

The first year with Blatt, we were the BEST DEFENSIVE TEAM IN THE PLAYOFFS!!! We were not that in the regular season at any point.

Last year, we won the title with the worst regular seasons defensive ranking of a title team I think in NBA History, because we improved the defense in the playoffs

The moz shump jr addition helped in the blatt year. I'm sure if they had that team from the start they would have been a top defense in the regular team. Moz made a huge impact. We gotta hope bogut will be similar.

I think Shump was affected by the trade deadline talk. Hopefully he get it back together soon.

Again, they turned the defense around the last two season in the regular season.

But ok. Continue.

It is cause for concern.

I would note this. Bogut, JR, and Love are three solid defenders. All coming back.

I do think that in the two previous seasons, we had less injuries and roster turnover late in the year.

In 2015 all three of our additions(Moz, JR, Shump) were added in early Jan.

Last year, the only significant second half of the season roster change or injury was the addition of Frye.

This year we lost JR, added Korver, lost Love, added Williams, added DWill, still have to add Bogut and back in JR/Love.

That's a lot of roster change and rotation change.

However, even with that flux in personally and rotations, the players on the floor are in control of their effort and communication on D, so that does need to improve no matter what else is going on.

But I do think it's significant that we're giving major rotation minutes to a guy who's been with the team three weeks and another guy who's been here five days.

So ever the optimist that I am, I do think there are valid reason to be concerned but valid reasons to support the idea that the defense will improve as the roster gets complete and settled.

Cleveland had the best transition defense in the 2015-2016 post-season too. Two things Moz and Delly weren't great at. But whatever, this regular season game undoes all of that.

The Lebron Doubl D lineup with Korver and Thompson needs some work on the defensive end but they really light it up offensively.. when was the last time this season we had someone on the bench clock in 7 + assist.

Right now Chemistry is the number 1 priority.

They still have to get Bogut worked in as well.

It's all effort on that end and our regular season defensive effort has been awful for 2+ seasons.

We ranked 9th in regular season defensive rating last year and we rank 17th now so something has changed, it's not just "we're always bad on D in the regular season". This was a terrible showing.

I'm even talking our defense in the playoffs VS the defense when we made our 33-2 or whatever it was run with all of those guys, it ratcheted up in the playoffs.

And yes, Bogut will help. JR will help. That's an elite interior defender and a plus perimeter defender that aren't even on the floor right now. Kevin Love is a lot better than Frye defensively, not on the floor right now.

LeBron turns from pedestrian to super elite defensively in the playoffs. That's a HUGE difference.

This is what happens when we cut our best defensive player McRae. 130 points given up.
