Resting Guys = Heavy fines?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All the things they can do to stop it are things that will cost the league money, so it won't happen. You could make regular season games more important by reducing the number of teams that make the playoffs. Not gonna happen. You can make them more important by shrinking the league. Not gonna happen.

You could reduce the number of regular season games, not gonna happen. Silver can bitch and moan all he wants, but he's not gonna get the owners to go in with him on this.

Feasibility of extending the length of the season to eliminate more b2b games?

Probably have to ask the owners whose teams are making money on regular season games and would be losing revenue, right?

And also the guys who would be losing a shot at racking up career statistics. That said, if they cared THAT much about those they'd play every night.

The players don't want the season longer. They aren't going to want it longer anytime in the future either. They've made the regular season a week longer by reducing preseason games. They can only go so far with that until they start cutting into the players actual off-season time.

This is so fucking stupid. Nobody bitches when players take days off in baseball. Why is it such a big fucking deal in basketball? It's part of the risk you take when you buy tickets, or when TV markets make deals.

Silver needs to get a fucking grip. Resting is part of sports now, as it should be. If it takes lying to the public and making up a fake minor injury to get him to shutup then so be it.

The Cavs don't owe anything to the NBA, TV markets, or opposing teams fans. They owe it to everyone in their own organization and to THEIR fans to give this team the best possible chance to win a Championship and that is what they are doing.

All we ever hear from the ESPN cesspool is that nothing matters but Championships...so I don't have time to listen to them whine about this trivial shit.

No, more weeks to the season to eliminate b2b games. I.e. - less concentration of games. Shouldn't lose revenue that way (I could be missing something).

The real problem is so many stars have been hurt. It is hard to say people don't need rest when you have some major players going down this year. Bad timing to point out that it doesn't make sense to rest players.

Ok, so no more "resting" players...

Suddenly there will be an uptick in minor injuries that keep players out for a game.

The best way to get did of players resting is to pay them per game they play, which will NEVER happen.

So the fact is players and teams will find reasons to rest players if and when they want. Its funny to me the Cavs resting the player that is top 3 in minutes played is getting all the attention.

Deal with it.

Doing away with back to backs is harder than we think. NBA has to schedule games off of the 30 Arena's events, they squeeze in games for sure, and are probably a little lazy on top of it. At times scheduling does seem half ass, but it's because of all the events taking place daily, weekly, monthly.

Understand this, it's a star-driven league ladies and gents. People of LAC bought tickets 3 times the amount of a game vs Philly. LeBron is being advertised on TV leading up to the game, LeBron is advertised when u buy the ticket, it turned into being false advertising, injuries are understandable but (rest) isn't. I'm against (rest), at least say his back, or calf, or sore knee. You can LIE about any of this shit to the fans. Can't do nothing about lying about a sore knee or back. It's better than just flat out resting.

To stop the resting, NBA can do something crazy, and crazy is giving players 0's across the board to ruin the averages.

But on the flip side, if you want to see LeBron James play, have your team make the playoffs/finals, then you'll get every bit of the King.

It sounds like Silver is wanting to put heavy fines on teams who sit their main guys especially when they are not injured. Now I side with the players over the fans, since I trust Popovich and his judgement with his players. He has won a ton of games and been one of the best coaches and sits his guys every single season. Also another factor is you do need to get your other players in some games so they can be sharp because injuries will happen.

What do you guys think?

I'm ok with it. Fans pay good money. And ask someone to play about 80 minutes of basketball over the course of about 26 hours doesn't seem that draconian. I often have to do about 22 hours of reading, writing, analysis, and management, in 26 hours. I don't ask the coach for a rest...

And let’s be honest, Adam Silver and these TV partners don’t give two shits if Mozgov doesn’t play or not. They only care about All-Stars resting, not anyone else.

That and marquee match-ups. The problem is when spring rolls around, most marquee match-ups involve playoff teams, AKA the teams that benefit the most from resting their players.

Truly, a chicken-egg conundrum.

A friend of mine brought up a good point. Most of us on this board are diehard Cavs and basketball fans. We've been aware of the resting phenomenon for several years because of Pop and the such. The casual fan that only watches a few of these primetime games is just getting hip to this movement and they are seeing the headlines on ESPN so now they are outraged. I think if we remove our fandom it makes sense why this is an issue.

However, screw the casual fan, it's the hardcore fans that pay the bills in the NBA. :chuckle:

I've been a hardcore fan for a long time now and I don't remember teams resting / sitting all of their best players for primetime games like Cavs + GS are doing. Seems like Pop was a bit more slick about it, wouldn't hold out all the good players at once.

Man if I could just take a rest day at work and not do shit, man would I love it, would probably clear my head and give me some relaxation. Problem is my company isn't paying me to sit on my ass and do nothing. And my customers would get hip quick and stop coming to my place of work.

You can't only have your mind on the future, (Playoffs), you gotta think about right now too. Resting someone like Kyrie is retarded in my book because he's young as fck and will only get better with more playing time, and if he's gonna get injured one game he will regardless if he rested on a few games days.

99% of people can't rest because they need to put food on their table and support their families. Then they go buy some hundred dollar tickets they can hardly afford to see their favorite sports teams play, and no one show up bc they need "rest". Smh.
