Welcome Deron Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Deron sucks but that is not his problem. Lue should have been able to recognize that the dude is beyond done and stop forcing the stupid bench unit with him on it.

Lue, please watch film and bring back Derrick.

The larger issue is that our bench primarily consists of role players that seem to be only maximized with LBJ on the court. Almost every player needs to be set up to get their shot, aside from RJ when he is on. (which can't be relied upon these days) We have few guys who can make a play off the dribble.

It was short-sighted of us to expect Williams to be able to set our bench players up like LBJ does when he runs the second unit. It's just not a realistic expectation. I'd rather have him come off the bench looking to score than looking to "run the 2nd unit."

He does seem like the kind of guy that’s a cancer to playoff teams.

I really wonder what the motivation is to keep playing him. When paired with Kyrie he makes our backcourt defense very vulnerable. He might be effective if you let him run the offense but that would mean taking the ball out of Lebron's or Kyrie's hands. He doesn't look like he will make a positive impact this season. Is it worth it to give him minutes in hopes he signs next season? I don't think he is worth using the taxpayers MLE on, questionable if he is even worth the biannual exemption because of the opportunity cost of signing a different player. Would he sign for vets minimum?

Absolutely fuck no. It would be awful to give him minutes to placate him when we’re trying to win a championship.

I think both sides will see that this was an experiment that didn’t work, and mutually decide to part ways this summer. I’d be surprised if we want him back, and I’d be surprised if he wanted to be back.

In terms of this year’s additions, we’re definitely gonna re-sign Korver with bird rights, and we have Sanders under contract as well. Derrick Williams may be another “project” that we keep for next year, but a lot of that depends on what we do with Cedi IMO.

Is apraxic a posh word for retarded? because if it is then I agree

It basically means he has sensorimotor problems to the point where common motor movements become nontrivial. Like walking. Like reaching. Often brought about by stroke.

It's like the dude can't dribble a basketball or shoot anymore.

Not getting past anybody on drives and not being able to stay in front of centers was bad enough but making Calderon look like Avery Bradley was something new. I honestly felt bad for him

This is indeed a big issue, and one Lue might have resolved by trying to get these squads to stand on their own rather than enabling the team by overplaying LeBron to carry them, not allowing them the muscles to stand on their own. Now part of this is that they really don't run any GD offense when LBJ leaves floor. Just Kyrie "randoms" and PNR. notably more of the former. If Lue were less of a players coach he might discipline them to actually run the offense when LeBron left the floor. Admittedly, it's hard finding combinations when you have guys going in and out of the lineup, but fercrissakes he's got the GOAT on his team, how easy does he need the difficulty to be set?

Sam The Bullshit Whisperer in his blog said that Cavs have not been a good team since acquiring Deron Williams.

And it's mostly true.
Lue has not found a way to fit him in the rotations.

Our bench unit was on fucking fire and destroying teams until this bum screwed up our rotations beyond repair, Time to end this failed experiment, Lue and Griff just have to stop it

I wish they had dumped Deron and put Liggins and Derrick back in the rotation

I think the problem is his style of play.

I want to be clear i did not foresee this happening, but it has happened.

I think Derron is a slow, methodical old school type of PG.

Lebron is a bit like this, but with his size and athletic ability it makes him a modern pg. As for Kyrie, well he is the very definition of the modern, score, get to the rim pg. A Steve Nash type on steroids.

Derron just doesnt fit with our fast style offense and I am as shocked as anyone, but that is what I am seeing with my own eyes.

Need to use Deron for only 10 mins a game or so. Cant believe that is what it has come to.

Lot of great stuff in here.

Comparing Kyrie to Steve Nash though? They are nothing alike.

He's terrible defensively. He really is. That's the problem when you go with him at point guard, and Frye at center, or whomever that's struggling, it's just going to be a clear path to the hoop every single time.

Say what you want, but losing Delly and Mozgov (yes I know he's not that good) has hurt.

If you were going to lose them, I understand, but not finding a capable backup center with some size and can defend, and another change-of-pace point guard to Kyrie to defend (keep Delly!), then things wouldn't look quite as bleak.
