Larry Bird steps down

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I guess he knows George is good as gone and he doesn't have the motivation for it anymore, especially for a incoming tank. Bird was probably hoping for those Nets picks...

Pacers are at the end of mediocre street.

LeBron owns that franchise.

Bird will remain a consultant with the Pacers, but Orlando might make a run at Bird, per Woj.

When they peaked, the Pacers were damn good and built that team in an unconventional way without top lottery picks or huge FA signings.

Hibbert(when he was good), David West, George Hill, George, Stephenson.

Just the unfortunate outcome of being in LeBron's world.

There is also a close relationship between Bird and George. Bird may know that the best move for the franchise is trading PG13, and simply does not want to be the person to make that move.

I think that, combined with the incoming rebuild, may definitely be pushing Bird.

Don't forget Danny Granger. Poor guy fell off a cliff so fast. I really thought the Pacers were built to contend in the East for years. Just goes to show how unpredictable professional sports can be.

So...... what's the going rate for a Paul George these days?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers offer Ingram, a future first, one of Clarkson or Nance, and salary filler.

The Lakers want to be a potential playoff team in 2017-18. They'll probably overspend (ala what we did with Love) to make that a realistic possibility.

Does anyone even trade for George at this point? He keeps talking up the Lakers so much, who else wants to risk it?

EDIT: Other than the Lakers, obviously.

The debilitating injuries to Kerr had me remembering what a great coach Bird had been in Indianapolis, before his back forced him to step down. Sad to see the legends leave, hope he has a role somehow.
