Why would the Lakers ever let the Cavs trade a bunch of garbage for Paul George and then have a whole year to try and convince him to stay instead of just trading for him themselves.
If all they have to do is beat an offer centered around TT, that's not very hard and it doesn't gut the team.
The only way this works is if the Lakers juts don't want Paul George. Otherwise, him coming out and saying what he did killed the zero leverage we already had. If he wanted to play here, he needed to say it and then threaten everyone else he wouldn't re-sign if they traded for him.
Pacers: 9th pick
Cavs: PG13
Mags: Love
At that point Lakers have to release Russell cause PG ain't leaving Cleveland to go to LA.
And as much as I want PG in Cleveland you guys would wipe GSW the NBA is utter bull shit with this 2 team shit

So the Lakers just offer more?
What if the Lakers suck with Paul George and they give up young talent for him and he walks? With the current development and talent of the Lakers, is it possible that they could be worse than Indy is currently? It's a better bet to keep their talent and assets, to get Paul George to sign a long term contract in free agency than trade for him. One year could sway him either way.
For a rental if we go further in the playoffs than he has ever gotten how does he leave that with the warriors being in the western conference. It will take years for the Lakers to develop to the level of the competing with the warriors even if PG13 and another star signs there.
Do we sweeten the deal for Indy take on Lance and Al Jefferson so they can shed salary and go after guys in free agency?
Like what?
Any one of their cheap young players and/or lottery pick this year.
So all in on PG and then surround him with what's left?
Question is would you want George for 1 year knowing he'll leave if we can keep the big 3 but gave up anyone else....of course...not saying the Pacers would do it but gotta probe anyway
They can offer like two of those things, say Russel and INgram and then take back another contract like Monta Ellis to clear Indiana's books. There, that beats our offer and they still have Randle and this year's pick.
