The unofficial Obamacare thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
caf has really been firing on all cylinders lately.

At least I voice my opinion. You just criticize the contents of posts without actually stating your opinion on the issues.

You are really a worthless poster who never seems to advance a discussion... Only drags it down.

That is not the case with citizens demanding that other citizens pay for their benefit.

Q-Tip, do you have a problem paying for wheelchairs for the disabled? I don't think you do, to be honest. Just like I don't think most people in America do.

What the protester was trying to get across was the human cost; and they did so by getting arrested on camera in front of McConnell's office.

I would argue that takes bravery; not them being an asshole.

I'm honestly blown away right now.

:chuckle:

Well, at least you owned up to not knowing... That's totally fair, to be honest.

Anyway, FWIW; I think you're confusing the verb "cripple" with the noun "cripple." One is an act, the other is a derogatory, or negative way of objectifying a person based on their disability.

It's a very harsh thing to call someone. It dehumanizes them.

It's like calling someone who is autistic, "a retard." It's ... just not cool, in so many ways.

No, I don't. But that's something we should vote on. We decide public policy at the ballot box, not by which particular group manages to be more disruptive of society. There is absolutely no reason they could not have rolled right up to the Capitol, peaceably, carrying a petition, and presented it to whomever with cameras flashing. That is a perfectly legitimate way to make a reasonable point like a responsible citizen.

Blocking access, screaming, and having to be dragged away makes you an asshole.

Then we disagree.

No, I don't.

Yeah, I didn't think so.

But that's something we should vote on.

We already voted; Obamacare is law. We voted again, and now Obamacare is in jeopardy.

Now people are trying to lobby Congress and public opinion.

You could say the same thing about a lot of topics that people protest. I think this misses the point as to why someone would protest.

Blocking access, screaming, and having to be dragged away makes you an asshole.

Again, you don't really believe this... It's that you don't like the context; which is, the aspect of "free stuff," even stuff you'd more than gladly pay for and is being paid for.

Then we disagree.

Wouldn't be the first time... :chuckle:

Never differentiated the two..

I've called so many "paralyzed from the waist down" people cripples. Gotta be in the hundreds.

Well bro.. now you know.. and knowing is half the battle.

Sure. And even today, it is overwhelmingly the left that engages in obstruction of free movement and disruption of other peoples' lives, and I don't support that either. The left actively calls people to go out into the streets. For conservatives, it's normally "write your member of Congress", or if they're real radicals "We're having a Tea Party rally, but everyone make sure to pick up all your trash before you leave today!" I'm not exactly sure why that is, but for some reason many of the left seem to believe that those kind of laws don't really apply if you really care about an issue.

It's that you don't like the context; which is, the aspect of "free stuff," even stuff you'd more than gladly pay for and is being paid for.

No, I actually do believe it. As for the "context", of course it matters. Civil disobedience is an appropriate response to the deprivation of a legitimate constitutional right. It's not an appropriate response when a particular piece of legislation doesn't go your way.

Wait... So the word crippled is a deragatory term?

How else do you describe people without the use of their legs?

I've never in my life have heard the term cripple used as a slur. A friend of who is paralyzed from the waist down (i.e. crippled) always refers to the accident as "This is how I was crippled..."

I always just assumed that the word crippled is exactly what it's definition suggests. I.E. can't walk.

Are you guys fucking with me or something?
As someone with a physical disability that impedes my ability to walk, yes, I find the word "cripple" mildly offensive. I don't judge people on it, I get that society doesn't have a problem with it, so I kind of ignore the phrase. But personally, I'd appreciate the phrase "disabled," "differently abled," or most descriptively, "physically disabled."

Could be the mouth breathers that slowly chose not to walk and became leaches ruining it for others. They should be mad at them if they're not.
Republican senators? should be mad at who?

I have been called a cripple so many times in my life it really does not bother me anymore. But If you call me handi-capable I'll fight you. FOR REAL.
