#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Has a player that has held out over the off-set language ever lost?
I can't say, I don't follow the NFL closely enough. But, I doubt it.

Anyway, my comment was about the logic in PFF's tweet. Using a 1st round pick on a player because he supposedly fits the unorthodox scheme of a DC is stupid reasoning. It's part of the consideration, of course, but it should never be the reason.

What a selfish POS, or somethin'.

Can someone explain to me what offset language is and what was happening over the last few posts?

Offset language allows teams to recover guaranteed money if the player is released and then signs with another team. That's how I understand it.

And just to add to that, these players like to double-dip.

Essentially, they want the contract written such that if they're cut, they still get their money while whomever signs them afterward pays on top of that.

Thus, if they are due $2 million in their 4th year and get cut, they get that money. Then, if another team signs them for $2 million, they get $4 million total.

If the same player's contract includes offset language, and he gets cut owed $2 million and then signs with another team for $2 million, the original team is off the hook entirely for that money.

If the dude signs for $1.5 million, the original team is still on the hook for $500 K.

Seems somewhat ridiculous to be the biggest issue in rookie deal negotiations because if you're good, you likely aren't getting cut when you have cheap years left on your rookie contract.

I saw Peppers in town a few weeks ago at Strongsville mall. Seemed to be minding his own business.

Two fans going up the escalator chanted O-H at him. He smirked, but you could tell he was annoyed.

This hillbilly buckeye shit needs to stop. Why bring it up? Its not in good fun. Its a bad look.

Eh...it'll stop the second he proves he's a good NFL player.

I'm in a weird spot regarding Peppers. On one hand, he spit on the O and I hate his guts. On the other hand, I am a fan of the Browns and want to win. Can I root for him to do well for the Browns but consider it a browns success when he does but also still hate him anytime he does anything bad? Is that allowed? Because I really do hate him but I don't want him to fail.

It's a big O painted in the middle of a football field. It gets stomped on, trampled, splat on and probably urinated on during the course of a game. Let it go.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but it seems like people are taking college football amd their allegiances way too far. I guess i never really understood the culture, so to speak.

People make it sound like the guy personally came to their house and urinated/spit on their mother and family crest.
