That is my point, intent in this case is only 20% of the entire comparison.

I might intend to run a 4.2 40, but unless various conditions are present including if I have the ability, wind, cleats, track etc., who cares about my intentions. I care about execution and probability in making such a enormous comparison.

I understand your point. You aren't worried. I think you are wrong, but I can respectfully disagree and I will. Again I didn't compare these guys to Nazis, they invoked that imagery.

Can people be honest with themselves for a minute?

How often have any of you come to these threads and actually had your mind changed about anything?

Between this thread, the Trump Scandal thread, our massive general politics thread that got shut down etc.

Honestly what's the point? I've been on this board for nearly a decade now and my post count is low compared to many of you, but I have read thousands of threads and posts throughout the years.

I've seen the staunch conservatives in here bitch about being pigeonholed as racists. Now in the last few pages I've seen them jerking each other off with likes because some people in here are ok with punching Nazis. NAZIS. Which does not mean anyone here (I will admit I argued with David awhile ago about if I would personally punch a Nazi who was in my face. However I have been thinking about this for awhile and I have changed my opinion on this as I stated my agreement with Q-Tip's position on this many pages ago)

But of course some of you turned it into an us vs them thing and started "saying they're violent towards everyone who has a different view." They they they they. The enemy. The violent left. I'm sure that's definitely true, and will definitely help conversations going forward. Congratulations, the left is wrong for calling you all racist, and you're certainly not wrong for calling them all violent right?

With the liberals here at RCF I've seen people bitch about how petty the conservative media was with Obama and then with Trump in office they are chomping at the bit for any teeny slip of the tongue or strange thing to post about. At the same time I've also seen liberals here post anything that might be negative towards Trump regardless of the reliability, which was strange because I saw those same people conplain about conservatives doing that. Which granted I think Trump is the worst president of my lifetime, but I've only lived through 4. Still though, the hypocrisy is painful.

What I have learned is that shit is cyclical in this country, or at least it is in RCF, and everyone is hypocritical.

So back to my original question. How many of you have actually changed your minds coming to threads like these?

You want to make fix America? (Or make it great again)

Then shut the fuck up and actually listen to people.

I disagree with Q-Tip on many things, but generally I think a good portion of that comes down to what role we feel government should play in our lives. I asked him a sincere and honest question about libel and slander laws in regards to Nazis. He answered honestly and it solidified my position in favoring their right to protest peacefully according to our laws. I know his background is in law, and I was appreciative of that perspective. I listened to him as the person he is, not as some representative be all end all of conservatism.

Gourimoko has been asked about technology, physics, and other topics, many of which go over my head. However when it comes to politics it seems like people can't wait to argue with him, and then get pissed when he gives a long nuanced response. Like any of the problems we are facing can be solved with memes and short sentences. People believe him when he talks about computers, but suddenly it seems like some of you turn your nose up to any political thought he has.

You want to fix America? Stop trying to win arguments and start trying to find the right answer regardless of who it comes from.

Maybe I'm naive. Maybe this is just the way people are. But I'd like to hope that most of us want the same thing. Safety, security, equal treatment in the eyes of the law, and a way to provide for ourselves and our families. And we should want these same things for our fellow Americans.

If that's the case I think there might be hope for us if we are able to calm down, breathe, and stop holding each other accountable for the actions of others. Stop stereotyping each other with the worst examples of liberalism/conservatism, because all we end up doing is arguing with false versions of ourselves, forever dancing around the truth.

Here is what is gonna happen.. states, Townships and cities are gonna remove these confederate statues (hopefully they leave the cemeteries alone)

They are gonna pass legislation targeting hate groups.

It will get a lot of support. but once the law is passed and they find these organizations aren't committing violence they will target the ones who do.. like Antifa, BLM and others.

The government then has the legal power to label and treat any group as terrorist.

I can only speak for myself, but I like having my ideas challenged and being aware of how people feel from other ends of the political spectrum feel. It helps me clarify my arguments and gives me a sounding board for the political opinions I don't want to flood Facebook with. It allows me to wade through my own biases and recognize when a story is too good to be true. Yes, I get condescending and try to "win" but at the end of the day it's just people shooting the shit on an online forum. And frankly, I find it fun to pick Trump apart.

Changing someone's mind is rarely a matter of one post or idea. My mind has been gradually changed (admittedly, this is usually toward a more liberal or simply more nuanced position rather than a completely different one) by seeing the perspectives of others on here, on Reddit, and elsewhere. I certainly don't feel the same about a lot of political topics compared to a few years ago because of the ability to test my thoughts out on the internet. I bet we all have probably learned more from each other than we've been willing to admit in the moment.

It can get toxic, it can get stupid, and a lot of the time it's an exercise in futility. BUT I feel like I know the guys here and it's an environment where I feel like I can trust other posters and I can trust Ben to keep us from going too far (including letting me know when I've crossed the line).

This is why I had a problem with the idea of stopping people on the "terror watch list" from buying guns. It sounds good in theory: Why would anyone want suspected terrorists to buy guns? But, it could very easily be abused.

Can people be honest with themselves for a minute?

Gourimoko being good with computers has fuck-all to do with politics or views on race.

He has, in a lot of peoples minds, very extreme views if we're being honest with ourselves.

People are going to disagree on subjects. I see a lot of rational, down to Earth discussion being had from the "conservative side", whom by the way, don't necessarily even call themselves conservative but are trying to balance out some of the extreme political games being played on the board.

I get it. You see the national media going with these stories and making a mountain out of a molehill, but that needs to be pointed out as well.

I think there are four sides to this thread. The conservatives, the liberals, those that are playing political games, and those that are not playing political games.

Shapiro had a great episode today on (the normalization of) antifa and how its counter productive to its intentions. It always grows the opposition.

If you guys want to stop Nazis, maybe listen.

Despicable 3 in theaters now.

We pretty much said the same thing earlier. I'll check it out after work though.

I don't really see anyone here defending Antifa, though. In fact, the consensus from both sides seems to be that they are anarchist assholes.

It's also incorrect to pretend that they were the entirety of the counter-protestors in Charlottesville when we know for a fact that that is not the case. The bulk of the counter-protestors, including the woman who died, were not affiliated with them in any way.

Maybe people have walked stuff back but there seems to an implicit suggestion that they arent bad because theyre "fighting Nazis". There are people defending their violence at the ver y least. Those are extreme views, whether or not people believe it here.
