Fire Mike Longabardi !!!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just had a dream in my nap that we sack Lue and replace him with Longabardi.

Longabardi outcoaches Brett Brown, Brad Stevens, Dwane Casey and Steke Kerr and wins us our 2nd NBA Championship.
Get help.

We need this thread humming again this guy has been terrible. With Crowder regaining his great defensive metrics that is just more evidence that he has no clue what he is doing. His defense has never worked here and all new players have worse defensive ratings once they learn this "system".

Dropped in the playoffs and won the title

Dropped when initially getting the new guys great defense

Dropped in the 2nd half against Toronto, excellent 3pt defense and 18 pt turnaround to beat the best in the east.

If the Cavs play this defense in the playoffs they will lose. If not they may actually have a chance.

I thought our players were not defensively minded, but the personell has not mattered. Longabardi has got to go.

Hey hey hey ho ho ho, Coach Longbo has got to go

Sorry if this had been discussed, what exactly is the longo defense supposed to look like VS what it looks like?

I think what he wants to do is to switch to not allow guys who can shoot to get clean looks off the dribble, which would be cool if you're just letting wings switch.

But when you're asking guys like TT or Zicic to switch, you have us taking our biggest player out of the paint, leaving it unprotected. Love is OK at switches, but it still causes the same issue, your leaving minimal protection in the paint, and at that point teams can play the drive and kick game to either get a layup or a corner 3.

Sure so does he just want to switch everything? I've been under the impression that in the past his scheme hasn't worked because it was too confusing for some guys. Switch everything isn't complex

How much of a sample size do we need to see to realize it isn't going to work?

That what it looks like in game, switch and try to have help come. But when you're switching big to small, it's always gonna cause mismatch, and then some confusion.

Cavs defense was at its best with Mozgov inside to clean up anything inside, and the Cavs rarely switched. We had better defenders too in Delly, motivated Shump and Jr.

After the moves this season, we added Hill and Nance, who are smart instinctive defenders. Hood and Clarkson give effort on that end, but can get burned at times. Overall though, it's not like we don't have the personal to play similar defense to what we had with Mozgov by using Zicic, or maybe even Nance.

Need a new section in the Q.

Longabardi shit can party

Longo Bongos get played everytime we give up a wide open three or layup. Coordinated dance and chant on coast to coast layups given up after made baskets.

If we really want to turn up the heat, we can have unemployment documents blown up on posters and everyone wearing pink slips in the section.

I definitely have a problem with removing Nance from the paint. He can guard guys on teh perimeter, and that is cool and can be a wrinkle, but it shouldn't be a feature.

Switching can be great and it can throw guys off, but as the basis for the scheme, it seems to negate some of the natural defensive ability some of our guys have. Specifically Nance and Hill.

It also seems to have a negative lazy effect on some of our guys, especially JR and Lebron.

Someone who knows X's and O's can speak to this better, but I think our defense would be much better if we just fundamentally stopped having our bigs trap on the perimeter so aggressively on P&R and stopped having them constantly switch onto guards. Like why the hell is Zizic ever switching out onto guards or trapping them at half-court?

Think of it this way, if I was to ask what is our defense designed to take away - can you really answer that question? We don't pack the paint to protect the rim, and we give up open 3's all the time by over-helping on dribble penetration.

We need an identity on D and need to make use of guys like Zizic/Nance who are great at verticality to funnel stuff to vs all the switching and trapping.

What gets me isn't just the scheme it's the TOTAL FAILURE TO ADJUST OR ADAPT even as we put up some of the worst defensive stats in NBA history and our personnel change radically. Late last year, awful defense heading into the playoffs -- NO CHANGE. First half of this year, even worse, more awful defense leading to serious concern about Lebron leaving and total collapse of the team -- NO CHANGE. After trade deadline, total redo our personnel and have much more athletic and better defenders -- NO CHANGE OBSERVABLE. Is this person a member of some obscure NBA defensive cult where you sign in blood for your sacred "scheme"?

A good coach is judged not by their "theory" or scheme but by how they adapt to changing circumstances and achieve their goals consistently. One thing I always liked about Blatt is you could tell he would try to adjust intelligently as situations changed.
