2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I made two bets on the draft:

Took the over on 1.5 RB’s taken in the first at -225.

Also took Minkah before Derwin at +125.

$75 on each.

Also in a $5 winner takes all competition for most correct picks with about 15 people.

Anyone else have money on the draft?

HATE LIST

Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming - Don't get the hype at all. What's he do well? His best throws are on broken plays where he's rolling out to the right and lasers a pass to a WR that snuck behind the defense. Even for the best QBs at extending plays- Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers- these plays happen maybe 1-2 times a game. Not nearly often enough to build a case on.

I wasn't a huge fan of Derek Carr coming out of Fresno State, and IMO Carr was easily a better prospect than Allen. Maybe in a down QB class you take a small school guy with a big arm in the first round, but we've got the #1 pick and plenty of superior QB prospects. No thanks!

Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA - He always stood out when I watched UCLA games this fall, mostly because he's huge (legit 6'9'') and kinda sucks. I thought the Nate Solder comparisons were pretty rich, but that's before I saw people on reddit actually comparing him to Jonathan Ogden. He's an amazing athlete for the position (seriously, already in the top 99.2% percentile for NFL offensive lineman) but he's got no push in the run game and is inconsistent in pass protection. Some team is going to fall in love with his measurables and take him way too early.

Vita Vea, NT, Washington - We've convinced ourselves we can turn a big, run-stuffing DT from udub into an all-around force once before, but not again. He's a two down player that's not worth a 1st round pick in a pass happy league. He's not going to physically man-handle interior lineman like he did in college... where he wasn't productive. I don't see Haloti Ngata, I see another Phil Taylor. You could interest me in the 3rd or 4th, but Vea is probably going in the top-15.

Ogbonnia Okorokwo, OLB, Oklahoma - Small, tight-hipped edge rusher that's going to get swallowed whole by NFL offensive tackles. He's already turning 24 this year and has maxed out his athletic gifts, I don't see him ever becoming more than a backup. He's somewhat decisive as a prospect; in a weak edge rusher class he's projected to go anywhere from the 1st round to the 5th. Day 3 guy for me.

Tony Brown, CB, Alabama - No idea how this guy is projected to get drafted in the middle rounds. He's immature, already 23, and he sucked in college while being surrounded by elite players and being coached by Nick Saban. Day 3 is generous, Tony Brown shouldn't be drafted.

So this will be our draft?

You mean other than season tickets?

Apparently Baker Mayfield is who the Jets like at 3, and we're grappling over Allen V. Darnold at 1.

I'm unsure of what the Giants are going to do. I know Pat Shurmer is their HC...sooo...that's about it....

If we fuck up and take Allen then Giants are no doubt taking Darnold. Hopefully we don't take Allen and take Rosen or Darnold and can take Chubb or Ward.

If we trade with Buffalo and take Maurice Hurst at 12 what would everyone think? Interior pass rush is a big need and I think they like him a bit...

Well, I don't -think- it'll be the Giants doing that.

Either they're going to draft Barkley at 2 (per everything I've seen) or they're going to trade with the Bills.

I think the Bills are going to throw everything they can at getting one of these QB's. Could be Rosen. Could be Darnold (god no. please don't let them do this). Could be Mayfield even.

But it's going to happen.

But it's down to Darnold or Allen at this point. HOW Allen is even in this conversation (for us) is beyond me, but that's the discussion we're having.

There has been some talk about a trade down from #4 with Buffalo. Buffalo owns the 12th and 22nd pick (god damn 22nd pick). I want to mock this out to see what the end result would be.

#1 Browns: Darnold
#2 Giants: Barkley
#3 Jets: Mayfield
#4 Bills: Rosen
#5 Broncos: Allen
#6 Colts: Nelson
#7 Bucks: Chubb

I think these are the top 7 players off the board in some order.

#8 Bears: Fitzpatrick
#9 49ers: Edmunds
#10: Raiders: Roquan Smith
#11: Dolphins: Ward
#12: Browns: Derwin James

Maybe Fitzpatrick slips but I see Edmunds, Smith and Ward as guys that are for sure in the 8-11 range.

#13 Redskins: Vita Vea
#14 Packers: Davenport
#15 Cardinals: Ridley
#16 Ravens: Lamar Jackson
#17 Chargers: Mason Rudolph
#18 Seahawks: Josh Jackson
#19 Cowboys: DJ Moore
#20 Lions: Payne
#21 Bengals: McGlinchey
#22 Browns: Guice

13-22 is a crap shoot. Who knows what will happen but someone from Guice/McGlinchey/Hurst/Oliver/Hughes/Jackson will be on the board.

The questoin is would you rather walk away from day 1 of the draft (Leaving the 2nd-7th round unchanged) with
A: Darnold/Chubb
B: Darnold/Derwin James/Guice

Only way Browns should listen to Bills is if they throw in next years 1st round along with #12 and #22.

Don’t overthink it, take the best BPA at #4 and move on. I’d be fine with Chubb or Nelson

Yeah that's really what I would want if it popped up with us. Also 1 is off the fucking table. Period. End of discussion. We get first dibs.

I think really it's more likely happen with the Giants because it always seems like Shurmer is pensive about picking that high, and they seem really luke warm about taking a qb, or even barkley that high.

I got that same vibe with the Colts as well. Low and behold? Yep. that's what happened.

And that's not a slam on Barkley, Chubb as players but the league is so QB driven, it's akin to drafting the football equivlant of LeBron, Carmelo...what have you. It all but guarantees you success if you have a good one.

If you do this trade though...just remember. Next years Bill first will be a mid-teens pick at best, a 20-something pick as the worst case scenario. The odds of this being Houston Texans 2.0 is very slim.

So are you willing to give up on Bradley Chubb, Quentin Nelson, Denzel Ward, Saquan Barkley or Derwin James for what ultimately could be those three mid first round picks? That's the question.

I think it's pretty likely one of those guys will still be there at 12.

I know most of them besides James are consistently mocked in the top 10, but none of us predicted Hooker being available at 12 last year. Most of us thought we would for sure need a top 10 pick to get him.

I feel pretty confident one of those guys would be there at 12.

I'll also point out penciling the Bills in for mid-teens seems premature. They don't have a QB. They could easily be a top 10 pick next year.

Remember that pick that we got that is now #4 overall was from a team that won their division the previous year
