Denzel Ward

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After watching the presser Denzel seems to still be pissed at Baker based off his body language. Or maybe that's just the kind of guy he is. Haven't watched many interviews of him
Didn’t get that at all. Watching a few Denzel interviews and his interviews last night, he is just a quiet, succinct talker. Literally almost every answer the guy gives is one full sentence and then stop.

Denzel is going to struggle guarding the Julios if he's forced to cover him and other big WRs. Browns did need someone to guard AB since he's killed us a lot, especially in that season opener last year. Browns at least got the #1 CB in this years draft.

The good news is there aren’t many Julio Jones (size + skill combo) caliber WRs in the league.

Well, the division has 2 of the ten best receivers in the league so he’ll get his rough patches in fast and often but it’ll be important for his development.

^ProFootballFocus’s breakdown of Denzel Ward. The best corner in college football when he is targeted. This is especially impressive because of how much he is targeted. Watch the video to see the numbers.

He got targeted more than the average #1 corner, but receivers caught ~30% worse against Ward than other corners.

Ward matches up well against Brown physically. He is roughly the same size and a much better athlete. Can he mirror him? Tough to say.

We will have to see if he can play the bigger guys. He did a great job on a guy like Cobbs Jr when given the shot.

Let's not forget an important factor considering how he develops in the NFL: he will most likely practice against Josh Gordon. What an opportunity to develop your game against a freak wr

I like Ward. Before Chubb really blew up, I wanted Ward over Minkah. I really hope he becomes a lockdown corner. Something the Browns lacked for a little while.

In all seriousness, I am not going to be shocked when we get another suspension come training camp.

It’s a long offseason away from the team.

However, IF he makes it to camp without a relapse, I have faith the hardest part is behind him.

I remember driving and listening to an interview on NFL radio with an analytics guy. They talked about how they came up with a CB rating along the lines of a QB rating. Denzel Ward crushed the rest of the draft class.

Take a listen in this link. The entire thing is interesting, but the CB mentions start at 10:30.

Yepppp.

Ward got targeted significantly more than most #1 corners in the draft. BUT, his yards/cover snap, yards/attempt, and catches allowed/attempt were all elite. Opponents fared about 30% worse than their average when Ward defended them.

I just said this in another thread, but it would not surprise me if Mayfield and Ward were numbers 1 and 2 respectively on the Browns' draftboard.

I remember when all you assholes said Gordon would never set a foot back on the field 2 years ago and demonized him for pot. Now that the TV says it's OK...well....now you know.

Have you watched the NFL?

Everyone struggles to cover Julio Jones.

A guy I work with works out at his gym (former pro body builder)

He knows his trainer well and says Gordon has been very focused. This doesn't mean he is clean, but this is the first off season he has spent here in Phoenix which is a hot bed for pro athletes working on their fitness.
