2019 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We will see.

Julius Randle had 1.4 assists per game in college...how can you say that? Zion with 2 other great ball handlers will average much more assists.

I don't see them as similar players, definitely not in the NBA. So you know...

I'm saying Julius Randle right now. What he did in college is irrelevant.

If Zion improves immensely on the perimeter, I'll change my mind, but he hasn't shown that, he wasn't even an effective creator in HS, and doesn't really project as that type of player.

Randle is bad because of his defense, not because of his offense. If he was a plus defender he'd easily be a top-20 big in the NBA IMO. Therefore...I think the important question to ask is whether Zion's closer to Randle or Green defensively. That's the difference between him being mid-lottery and clear #1 on my board.

Who said Randle was bad at all? Or are you just throwing that out there as a way to rate Zion.

Julius Randle would obviously be a bad outcome for a mid-high lottery pick...I thought that was the point here. I'm arguing that if you take Randle and make him a plus defender, that's actually a really good player who should be in contention for the top pick in a draft like this.

New ESPN mock draft.

1. ATL - RJ Barrett
2. CLE - Nassir Little
3. PHX - Zion Williamson
4. ORL - Cam Reddish
5. CHI - Romeo Langford
6. ATL - Quentin Grimes (From DAL)
7. NYK - Keldon Johnson
8. BKN - Sekou Doumbouya
9. WAS - Darius Garland
10. BOS - Bol Bol (From MEM)
11. BOS - De'Andre Hunter (From SAC)
12. MIN - Rui Hachimura
13. DET - Eric Paschall
14. MIA - Daniel Gafford

I'm not surprised Grimes is rising. I'd imagine teams will fall in Love with him.

Still remember seeing him play as a junior in HS and it was like an NBA PG/SG running the show against a bunch of pubescent teens. :chuckle:

He's such a heady, mature player with upside. Also has a great one-motion shot with a high release.....he has a ton of shooting upside as he matures.

I mentioned him as one of the 4 guys I like the most out of this draft......he's a really nice mid lottery value if he sticks there. Will be interested to see if he can avoid getting swallowed up in to the talent whitewash at Kansas.....they are just loaded.

No, we were only talking about Julius Randle in relation to SirDom's assertion that Zion can run the point at times.

I just said that a big who can run the break isn't necessarily someone who has the skills to play PG, and used Randle as a reference point.

Are you high on Little?

He looks like a 4 to me.

I'm not super high on him as of right now. I think his offense is further behind than people realize. I watched their preseason game vs Mt Olive and I was surprised to see a few lapses in effort on defense... probably just because it was preseason though. He'll definitely be a plus on that end.

Main thing I don't like with him is just how inefficient his half-court game is. His jumper is okay, but until it becomes more consistent you're looking at a lot of mid-range pullups and head down drives into multiple defenders.

It's early... I could still see myself having him top 3 at year end lol.

Which I disagreed with.

Randle gets his assists from post ups and especially multi post up coverages. This is all based on projection of course, but I really do see Zion as a playmaker not only in transition, but in PnR and of course post ups. I just see it in him...you can disagree of course.

Generally, I view Randle's and Zion games differently. Zion is on another level as an athlete vertically, laterally, horizontally, whateverlly. He will create breakdowns because of his much better handle and explosive first step and that will lead to assists.

I don't view HS stats/footage as any indication as Zion had no need to pass to his inferior, midget teammates.

And I wasn't saying that he should be strictly the starting PG yeah? I was saying that I really do view him as a player that can play the PG position (in certain lineups/with the bench unit, etc).

I don't like to be mean, but wow...you have sooooooo many bad takes :chuckle:

What would we even trade it for?
Bad take? those are the 3 top players in the draft and the drop off is pretty big imo unless somebody like Bassey,Reddish,Langford or Bol Bol
prove to be more out of the gate than what is typical of over hyped players in a meh draft class. I do like a several sleepers for the Cavs in Hoard,Grimes,Kevin Porter and Keldon Johnson if they right the ship some and are in the 9-10 range. Sekou looks interesting as well, but I wouldn't pick any of those players besides the 3 I listed in the top 5. If the Cavs have the 4th or 5th pick I would rather see them trade it for a rookie scale player that fits the roster instead of over picking on somebody that doesn't or worst really over picking for fit like this org has done in the past(think Thompson,Waiters)

I’m not worried about his lack of passing in high school, although he wasn’t playing with bums. His Adidas Gauntlet team was stacked and his A/T was less than 1.

I’m more concerned about his ability to handle the ball at all outside the open floor in transition. I don’t see him having the ability to work as a ball handler in the PnR unless he makes drastic improvements to his game.

Grimes getting a lot of hype for his game today. Really just hit some catch and shoot jumpers, that's about it. Streaky track record as a shooter and he did fall off later on in the game... but did hit some really really tough shots. Concerns about shot creation were still there... really didn't do much inside the arc in the HC.

Devon Dotson was super impressive. Crazy small, but there's still a chance he gets drafted this year. He's going to be one of the better players in NCAA this year.
