The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think perhaps the most interesting comment in episode one was Qyburn's line to Bronn about Cercei having something else planned for Dany. We know it's not Jaime, because we saw his departure from Cercei on camera and it did not go well. Tyrion, on the other hand, had a conversation with her that we did not see on camera.

Of course, if it is Tyrion, he's a fool, because Cercei just sent a man to kill him. But that's Cercei. No one should ever trust her.

Yeah, I was going to mention it. I just saw that episode, we never got to see the rest of the conversation and how Tyrion magically got her to come back out.

I figured Tyrion looking at Jon going into Dany's room had to do with the conversation he and Dany had of setting up a succession plan beyond Dany...

Didn't really put it together he had something more sinister in plan. But I can't stop thinking about what he told Cersei. He doesn't want to destroy house Lannister.

I don't know... I really hope he wasn't foolish enough to back that bitch. Even Jaime has finally (hopefully) seen the light.

And as always, we have to remember that while they aren't followed terribly closely, the big picture things still will hold true.

ANd in the books, Tyrion is flat out not a good dude and I'll beat this drum till I'm blue in the face Quaithe names him among others (people like goofy Quentyn and horrible, awful Victarion) to NOT, I repeat, NOT trust.

Here's the list: fAegon, Jon Connington, Quentyn Martell, Moqorro, Victarion, and....Tyrion.

Now no one questions the rest of the list. I mean hell Connington, Quentyn, and fAegon are all part of the same group in that they're all supporting a false claimant to the Throne, or their families are.

I think we know, at this point, the Red Priests aren't to be trusted with a single thing.

Victarion just sucks giant dong.

ANd then Tyrion. Now out of all those people Tyrion is the only character anyone really likes. Yet she named him all the same.

"Trust none of them."

Yeah. He can be a true Lannister when he takes over CR after the war. I just don’t see a motive. Dude already roasted his Dad and shows zero regret for it. Iunno guys. Strictly going by Show Tyrion. Can’t recall shit from the books.

To be fair, his dad had just sentenced him to death for a crime he knew his son didn't commit and then Tyrion found that he was sharing a bed with the whore who had betrayed him in his trial.

But on both show and in the books he's always fishing for compliments when he talks to Tywin. He wants validation, and then finally gets to the point where he realizes that he'll never get it and that his father is willing to let him die.

He doesn't hate Cersei was much as he claims either. Yes, he hates her when she's trying to kill him and she's being a cold hearted bitch. But countless times he's tried consulting her.

His feelings with Cersei are complicated. But the way he was acting towards her in their private meeting. Like he was desperate to win her over and be forgiven. It wasn't even remotely close to all the anger and hate he had up until that point. Then said he had no intention of destroying house Lannister. Really Tyrion? A lie, or the truth?

I don't like it. I don't know. You guys might be right. That was be a bummer way for Tyrion go out though.

Well I dont blame him one bit for killing Tywin

Right. Neither do I.

But my point was that Tyrion was basically driven past the point of reason in that instance. He'd always had a complicated relationship for his father that was dominated by hate, but at the same time I think Tyrion would have killed everyone in Westeros to hear Tywin say, "I'm proud of you, son." Being sentenced to death pretty much hammered home that he was never going to win his father's approval.

Well, a lot of these characters aren't getting happy endings.

Yeah, but Tyrion is one of the few characters that's not had many happy moments on the show, period.

His family treated him like constant shit, outside Jaime. His sister and father tried to kill him. Then he fell in love with a whore who betrayed him too.

He wanted to drink himself to death because of it. It'd be a shitty end for him to go out backing them, after everything they cost him.

It would, but Tywin fucked his kids up something fierce.

When does Quaithe say this about Tyrion?

Not doubting, literally just don't remember that.

"No. Hear me, Daenerys Targaryen. The glass candles are burning.
Soon comes the pale mare, and after her the others. Kraken and dark flame, lion and griffin, the sun’s son and the mummer’s dragon. Trust none of them. Remember the Undying. Beware the perfumed seneschal."

Book V. Fairly early on.

Based on where the show is going, do you think Varys is the perfumed seneschal? I feel like the fact that he's still around means he has something still to do.

I've long wondered if the things seen in the flames are just kinda magical outputs of what Bran and Bloodraven are doing. NOt really intended. Kinda like when your walkie talkie picks up a phone conversation. ACtually, exactly like when your walkie talkie picks up a phone conversation.
That is what I believe.

I'm not really worried about Tyrion and Cersei. He clearly wanted to believe her, maybe partially because of some residual sense of family, and partly because he know getting her cooperation was essential to saving Westeros. So he believed what he wanted to believe.

But now, he's going to learn from Jaime that she lied to them all. Jaime also likely will tell him that Cersei referred to Jaime himself as having committed treason. And, it's likely that Bronn will tell the Lannister boys that their sister wants him to murder both of them. So I suspect they are going to agree that she must be viewed as the enemy moving forward.

Also, I suspect that Tyrion and Jaime will conclude that she's probably lied to the both of them about being pregnant as part of her scheme to manipulate them.

Probably, although part of me thinks it could also be Sansa.
