When you have Chubb and Myles in their prime, you dont risk wasting a year or 2 trying to hit on a rookie QB.

This - Chubb and Garrett turn 27 late this season - they probably only have a few more seasons as elite or top 3 at their position and it is imperative we go for it now or else why bother?

As has been painfully apparent, Baker wasn't going to lead us to anything.

When you say “better” what do you mean? Because his public opinion surely isn’t better. His ability to be markatable for sponsorships is likely worse. So to claim he has faced no consequences probably isn’t true.

Players are paid by teams for what they can do on the field. Not who they are off of it. Ray Lewis killed a guy and is a first ballot HOFer and not too many people care about that.

I mean financially it's 100% factual he came out he came out much better.

His 4 year $156M contract that had $110M guaranteed was ripped up and replaced by a 5 year, 230M contract that is fully guaranteed.

As far as his public image and sponsorships...

There are more misses on QBs than hits, Browns fans should know this better than anyone. When you have Chubb and Myles in their prime, you dont risk wasting a year or 2 trying to hit on a rookie QB.

Every franchise has a guy or two at the level of Chubb and Garrett. The franchises that seem to have sustain playoff success build up a culture with a good Coach and GM.

Everyone has their own standards and/or line they are willing to toe. If an individual or one of their loved ones have experienced sexual abuse they might be less likely to support Watson based on how that specific issue has impacted their life. That doesn't make them a "bad fan" it just means this issue is more personal to them. That same individual may be more willing to look past a player with a history of domestic abuse, because perhaps that issue isn't as sensitive to them on a personal level. This doesn't make them a "bad fan" either, it is their decision on how they want to react to a certain issue.

This isn't that difficult to comprehend. All of us have may have different exposures/experiences to various issues, which will make some issues are more personal to us than others.

Let’s be clear. I did not say you are a bad fan if you decide not to support DW. I don’t support him. I mean quitting on the other 52. Nick Chubb and the rest do deserve support.

Meh.

The people that want separate threads to talk about on-field v. off-field are only doing so because they don’t want to be openly reminded that they’re willing to look past sexual abuse allegations because a guy is good at football. Separating the “football player” from the “guy” is just a coping mechanism because many of you with this mindset know how scummy this really is…but simply don’t care enough.
Nailed it.

Any rings would forever have the stink of Watson’s transgressions. Just like the Bonds HR record.

Haslam is pretty impulsive. So none of this surprises me.

I think Haslam and our front office are just smart enough to realize that there's nothing gained in the NFL by trying to stand on moral high ground. Someone was going to trade for Deshaun Watson and gain from this whole ordeal and the Browns decided that it might as well be us.

I agree with your stance and hold the exact same one actually. I will still support the Browns, just not Watson individually.

My response wasn't direct at you, it was more of a general statement to the "well you support this company even though one time their owner did this bad thing" whataboutisms that were starting to creep up.

I disagree also.

You're seeing it that way only because you are so wedded to your own perspective as being indisputably true that you think others must secretly know that you are right also, and therefore must be "embarrassed" at their own opinions. But that's not correct.

Your same logic could be applied to the Kaepernick situation, and someone could say "the only reason you don't want to discuss is it because you don't be reminded that "he hates America"/"America is racist" (depending on your point of view).

The reality is that many posters don't want to discuss these kind of topics in these threads because those discussions end up having nothing to do with football, tempers get hot, people get highly offended, and it becomes a shitstorm.

It has nothing to do with posters being embarrassed about their allegedly "scummy" opinions.

I just want to know how one forces another to give them a blow job? She couldn’t walk out? Genuine question, I’m not trying to be insensitive.

Maybe when all the claims are settled and the suspension has been served he'll show some contrition?

Biggest lightning rod in sports right now. Amazing story.

Or, maybe he has nothing to apologize for? Just a thought.

We really need to calm down in here in all honesty...

If you don't like the Watson situation then decide whether or not you are still following the team. If you are then hopefully Watson grew up in his year off and doesn't mess up his second chance...

If you cannot agree with the team getting him, then move on to another team or not follow the game anymore.

Dude there are people working for the Browns in high places who cannot and do not agree with adding DeShaun Watson though they will never be able to admit it publicly. The fans can feel however the fuck they want to feel about Watson and are not required to stop following anything or stop rooting for anyone.

This was a controversial move but the guys in decision making positions care about one thing: winning football games. Quite frankly Jimmy Haslam and Andrew Berry are pretty callous and low quality human beings. But they might have just landed what they need to fucking win, and they’re betting that winning will cure everything…

And….THEY are RIGHT.

The Browns and Watson are preparing for a mega suspension. I’ve heard anywhere from 8 games to a full season at minimum is what they’re bracing for. They’re hoping to get a decision, and then appeal and hope the appeal knocks off some games. If he gets 8, they want to knock it to 4-6. If he gets the boot for a season, they’re gonna try to get it to 8-12.

If he gets less than 8 theyre prepared to accept it as a PR move.

They’re bringing in extra PR people for this situation. They know what they did. And realistically they and we all pretty much know what Watson did..whether it was to 22 women or 15 women or just 10 of em. Dude acted like a privileged sexual predator. But tbh he wasnt the first athlete to and won’t be the last.

All that really matters long term is will he make the Browns a winner, a contender?

If he stays healthy and does that, he will be hated by plenty but overall not enough to make a difference. If he wins games, donates millions publicly, does some half ass service work, goes to counseling or at least pretends to, and works with his pricey PR team…and most importantly keeps his nose clean going forward and only use discrete professionals for his sexual massage needs. His people will find the girls he needs. Which is gross in of itself…but if he does that he will be just fine. If he wins a super bowl he will be fucking beloved so fast it’s not even funny.

It’s disgusting. He’s disgusting. The browns organization is disgusting. The league is disgusting. I barely watch football anymore. I don’t even talk to friends that are employed directly by or in parallel fields to the Haslams, that know Browns brass on and off the field as much because I know even care to know. I gave up on the league and team a long time ago. Kareem Hunt doesn’t even belong here. But here we are.

I’m accepting that it won’t matter, Watson wins enough, and wins the big one? He’ll be a legend and have enough fans and forgiveness that the people who still hate him won’t make a dent or matter.

If he has any sense he will pay every single girl triple what they’re asking for and make everything go away ASAP. Take 10millioj of your year 1 salary and settle with the rest of it. Then donate another 5 to good organizations that help the people he victimized. at least theyll all get $$$

nothing changes the morality or truth that the Browns and Watson are fucking disgusting. and nothing changes the fact that it wont really matter. maybe karma will come througu on this one and his bad knee will get yolked for good. but I doubt it.

go cavs!

Appreciate the insight. The bit about Berry being a low quality human being is interesting. Is this a conclusion based on his full court press to acquire Watson, or is there more to it from what you’ve heard?
