It’s really based on some of the planning discussions led by Berry and Haslam my people were privy too. Plenty of people tried to talk them out of it. Their responses that I won’t go into because I can’t helped me draw the conclusion.
This is really interesting. I live 7 miles from where Berry graduated high school and still volunteer to do a program he was involved in when he was in middle school/high school (we graduated a year apart). He did an interview at the national level with that program last year. I would have never expected that he would be anything but a good human being. Especially as this is generally a very friendly area.

Again.. Where was all this outrage when they put up a statue of Jim Brown. Just saying...

The NFL is and always will have a ton of scum bags.. fuck the MLB has a ton also.

Kinda just shows you how far the NBA has come ...

Fuck Jim Brown.

With that said, I think there's a difference between finding out one of your former players is a shitty guy and actively pursuing a guy on another team who you pretty much know is a shitty guy. You can't go back in time and take JB off the Browns, but you could've passed on Watson.

This presents an interesting tangent I wouldn't mind focusing on. Up to the 11th hour, when the Browns had egg all over their face and our QB situation was looking volatile and untenable, the presumption thrown around by many was that the pursuit of Watson was purely a Haslam move, and not something that AB and KS were in step with. The ostensible lack of a back-up plan would seem to lend credence to this notion.

Based on what you've heard, can you confirm that the need to get Watson was a vision they all shared? I always figured that Berry's gargantuan acumen wouldn't preclude him from seeing what a momentous FOOTBALL opportunity it was, PR nightmare be damned.

The big 2 were in lock-step all the way. As far as Kevin’s input though …no comment.

Berry never gave up on it. Asked Watsons people what it would take to change their minds after they were told he was not picking Cle—and then went to Haslam to sell the number…but Haslam had 0 issues with it and would have probably paid more if Watson asked for it.

The Browns outbid the next team by so much money it’s honestly insane. Watsons people will spin “roster , winning..roster…winning” this really was about money, money, money money money.

I’m sure he’s the friendliest motherfucker ever. But he sold Watson like a used car salesman and continuously hammered the point to Haslam and any internal detractors about how they will “do so much winning, this happy ending bullshit will be something we laugh about down the road”. And that, to me, is disgusting behavior. But he’s not wrong.

I'm not at all surprised that Berry was all in.

Look, it's his job to win games, and guess what the Browns are going to do a lot in the next few years? And what does that entail for Andrew Berry? I don't know why anyone would be surprised that Andrew Berry would want Deshaun Watson. He's a top 5 NFL QB who is proven in the NFL, those NEVER come to market.

The NFL is a sleazy business. As Steve Keim put it,

If you cannot compartmentalize it, or if you want to think that somehow the Browns were different, I empathize. But...it's the business of the NFL.

Fuck Jim Brown.

So you are saying basically saying that KevSli, AB and the entire organization are shitty people? So, just quit being a fan.
Also, all the other players in the league congratulating him are also pieces of shit.

Yeah, well, when in Rome...
What about Deshaun Watson would you like to discuss? I for one am open to moving onto the on field stuff an discussing what that looks like. It's why we are all here.

All the other players in the league congratulating are conditioned to where winning is the most important thing above all else in life and behind that is securing your bag. The trade is really batting 1000 in those two aspects.

It’s just a referendum on the NFL culture and shows how something like what Watson did is just not a big deal if you’re a premier player and can buy and lie your way out of criminal criminal charges. Everything else you can deal with, it’s just money and PR bullshit. There will always be another story, and all Watson has to do is win and it will be framed as some kind of redemption as if winning a football game can somehow redeem serial sexual assault and harassment. But that’s how it is, how it always has been and how it always will be.

Like, it’s a pretty low bar for Watson going forward. He just has to win football games, publicly deal with his impending suspension intelligently, settle his lawsuits with all that guaranteed $$$, and the big one…he has to NOT sexually assault or harass anymore massage therapists. The Browns and his agent are probably going to have a 70 year old Italian dude named Frank rubbing Watson down from now on to avoid temptation. If Watson slaps him with his johnson Frank is gonna make him regret it. Post security outside of his room and house to turn females away. Win some playoff games. And he’ll be a fucking god damned hero to a lot of people. Makes me sick but that’s just the toxicity of pro football for you. People are going to put their 6 year old sons in Watson jerseys. There will be ignorant signage. The more he wins the more toxic it will get.

I don’t know what the right word is to describe it, but two of the few female owners (Dee Haslam and Gayle Benson) were involved in the pursuit of Watson..

Not saying that as in to justify or rail against any Watson acquisition, just something of note considering the allegations against Watson..
