Deshaun Watson Off the Field Thread

Watson would be the most vile person in the game to them. He's being defended almost solely because the Browns will be f.u.c.k.ed if he gets a lengthy suspension.

It's pretty funny, the old cliche 'where there is smoke there is fire' one would think would apply here, and maybe, just maybe, over 20 accusers may be on yo a despicable pattern of behavior might be on to something. Behavior one would not welcome in any leader of a business, let alone the *centerpiece* of a multi billion dollar entertainment company. But folks will take up some bizarre positions to defend the brand, even if their only actual stake is a one sided emotional one. This stuff with Watson is going to be a distraction for 2-3 years, and it really seems totally bizarre that the Browns traded assets to get involved in this circus. But hey, I'm just gonna sit back with a bag of popcorn and do the Cage 'You don't Say?' face at each new turn in this. Browns gonna Brown.
The only real emotion I've consistently seen are from the people auto-declaring his guilty and wanting him and his ghost jailed for an eternity.

Not trying to open a can of worms (too late?), but I wonder how most Browns fans would feel about Watson and his allegations if he went to the Steelers, Ravens, or Bengals instead.

No need to wonder - we just watched it over the past decade with Roelisberger. We (rightfully) looked down on him and made fun of their fans for supporting and defending such a piece of shit person just because he was a good football player.

And now the roles have reversed.

I'm just going to add this about the dangers of the "me-too" presumption that women always tell the truth.

I have nephew who was falsely accused in California of having assaulted his female housemate, and committing battery on an elderly male friend of hers. He was an honorably discharged veteran who had no criminal record, and there were no witnesses, yet the pro victim California judicial system set his bail at a ridiculous $100,000. He ran headlong into that "me too" presumption, and into California legal provisions that forbade any inquiry into the background of the accuser to prevent "victim-blaming.". His court-appointed lawyer, who did no real investigation and advised him to block her phone number, also advised him to accept a plea deal that would have resulted in one to three years in prison.

My nephew was incredibly fortunate to have family out of state that refused to accept that. We got him bailed out so he could tell us his side of the story without being listened to in jail, and we investigated. To make a long story short, the whole thing had been made up by the female because she was angry at him for preparing to move out. We found two witnesses to verify that she had actually sustained her injuries at the house of her boyfriend, and the alleged elder abuse claim was made by a man to whom she had been married for purposes of immigration fraud, and she'd coerced him. We got all this information to the court appointed attorney, and the charges were dropped. She subsequently texted him to apologize for having made it all up, saying that she was just angry.

But if my nephew had not had competent outside advocates acting on his behalf, who have enough money to bail him out, he would have rotted for years in a California prison, life completely ruined. So unless I'm to assume that this situation was completely unique, it's apparent to me that there are likely plenty of innocent dudes serving jail time in California.

Of course, there are likely many more guilty guys serving prison terms in California. But this is why each case has to be evaluated and investigated properly on its own merits. Assuming that women are all telling the truth because of the "me too" movement is toxic, and dangerous.

Yup, I believe 5% of all reports are considered falsified, one of which was filed against myself. It sucked. It cost me my job plus 25k to fight it. You are absolutely correct we should be taking each incident with a grain of salt. However these are the exceptions. We should absolutely be looking at each of these individually, but dont tell me because someone filed a false report aginst your cousin or against me that we shouldnt believe any of these women. its a disingenuous argument.

And that is a wildly disingenuous characterization of my post.

If one thing has been made abundantly clear during this saga, it's that everyone has their own agenda.

For instance, I wonder how you would feel about Watson and his allegations if he played at South Carolina instead of Clemson.

Similarly, I wonder how Baker fans would feel about Watson and his allegations if Baker never played for the Browns.

My overall point? There are very, very few sports fans who genuinely care about what happens off the field. The rest are just serving whatever narrative fits their agenda and lying to themselves in the process.
These are all fair questions to be honest. I think if Watson played at USC I would still be hesitant to dismiss his accusations so easily. I am a BG grad and hate Urban Meyer's guts for much less, and he was the best football coach BG will probably ever see.

If we did not draft Baker and took Darnold instead, maybe the Darnold Bros (Darnold Douches?) would be coming out of the woodwork to bash Watson, and the OU/Baker fans would just watch from afar.

But you are correct, everyone has their own agenda. Many will twist things however they can to fit their narrative. For instance, I have defended Kareem Hunt, referring to his incident as a "drunken scuffle" a few times. Which is also ironic, considering I hated his guts when he played at Toledo. But, not really the point I guess.

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

Let's assume Watson did nothing wrong - With nothing except the public perception and the existence of these complaints, he will very likely be suspended for the season. I do not expect it will be much more than that - he has been out a year already, the league will certainly fight on his behalf, and it just won't be the biggest story in a year. There is a chance he can win back some games in an appeal, but in that rosy scenario I would expect the best we could hope for is Watson's debut in December.

As far as cutting him if more information comes out - unless he is facing significant prison time, this will not happen. The team won't have to pay his contract while he's suspended, and they traded away 3 1st round picks for a guy who was already swimming in these allegations. They made a choice to get in bed with this guy for the upside on the talent - nothing is moving them off of that position short of a true catastrophe.

This dude is doneyins.

Browns strike again!

Apologies if this was already posted. Also, apologies for posting a Lima tweet.

This to me is the part about number 24 that is most interesting. Was Watson lying to his lawyer/Browns/NFL? did he just not remember this women (most likely), but if this women is completely new to his lawyer/Browns/NFL its a very bad thing.

edit: @bushwick_bill thanks for the followup tweet, its a good clarification

It is all speculation right now no one knows. I am sure a 25th victim will come forward at some point. I would think the Browns Brass were prepared for other allegations...
Just wait until the NBA Finals are over and Watson still is not suspended...:alc::alc::alc:

So this 24th lawsuit did not even exist until after the introductory press conference and the HBO Special?
