IMO using this for Mobley will pay more dividends than any other use of the pick. I believe he is both a potentially serviceable, useful player on the court, and a useful cultural piece. I don't think Evan would care either way, but at the same time I do think Evan and the Mobley family would appreciate it as being useful, beneficial, and thoughtful. Of course there should be extensive conversations and communications about what everyone's wishes are, but I seriously doubt any of them would be opposed as some here seem to think.Thinking this through as I type...
If Mobley is there at #58/56, is there any benefit to giving him a *wink wink* deal and make him a priority UDFA instead? I haven't studied the new CBA, but could there be a benefit to free agency instead of 2nd round pick? I ask for the idea of making a draft and stash selection at #58/56, while also adding Mobley for "now".
As mentioned, just thinking this through. Thoughts welcomed.
And the risk with hush hush deals is that someone might play spoiler. Its why I'm fairly certain Cha is taking a big at 13. What if the Cavs trade the 14 away and someone else takes their target?IMO using this for Mobley will pay more dividends than any other use of the pick. Comparing such a move to a draft and stash? Draft and stash has an extremely low probability of bringing anything of value compared to adding Isaiah Mobley, which has quantifiable and obvious benefits.
