2022 Summer League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
with Rubio's knee injury history, I am not trading Neto even when ricky comes back

What about when Ricky AND Doughboy come back, do you trade him then?

There are creative ways to keep everyone. You can use Nembhard's 2 way on Stevens or Wade after cutting them. Trade Neto once Rubio comes back for cash or a pick that won't ever yield. Sign Stevens or Wade back to a guaranteed contract.
I agree there are creative ways to work a roster, but cutting Wade and Stevens and hoping to sign them back would not be a good one. Both of those guys have showed enough to get picked up immediately by another team. If we cut them, we would have to be ready to lose them and their team-friendly contracts. You just don't cut guys you have in your system that can play and are on minimum contracts unless you are sure that you can get a better player for the same price.

If Wade and Stevens were playing on our summer league team everyone would be thrilled and screaming for Koby to find some way to sign them. Especially Stevens

If one didn’t know the stakes were high for the next step in this rebuild, just browse RCF during what’s supposed to be our off-season

Passion, intellectual jousting, barbs… I saw Ben and Boobs bristle at each other recently and I loved it. I’ve just got to say:

There’s not a better forum for NBA or Cavs talk, and I’ve been on quite a few and browse quite a few other teams forums weekly.

This is the Roman Coliseum of forums and I love being a gladiator with you guys all year round.

Ok, back to jousting
We’re the Dylan Windler of Internet forums.

I think Danny Green is a fair comp, bit more athletic and in better shape, but not nearly as good of a dancer as Danny.

I think the dancing (as well as the hard time adjusting to the NBA) make the Danny Green comparison a little weak.

Would you accept that Ochai is a 6'7" Booby Gibson with bigger shoulders?

Ochai is a long 6'5 (6'6 with shoes), standing reach is 8'8 which allot of 6'7 players have a 8'8 standing reach or shorter, so i will let you get away with the 6'7.

But i dont see Boobie, he was deadly set shot, but he didnt come off screens like Ochai.

Honestly summer league is a horrible place to evaluate talent, i know its all we have right now, but we need the season to start, lol

Ben came out of nowhere and just rocked me with a Stone Cold Stunner so I had no choice but to get up and return the favor with some Sweet Chin Music.

Or Chubb under Hue Jackson. Good players earn their minutes even when the head coach doesn't know what he's doing.

I think you're misremembering what happened there. Hue Jackson never gave Chubb more opportunities despite him playing well and John Dorsey had to literally trade Carlos Hyde away to force Jackson's hand.

Remember that week four game against the Raiders where Chubb had over 100 yards and two touchdowns on three carries? Well, he got three carries each of the next two weeks too and only got more when Jackson's dumb ass couldn't start Hyde over him any more because Hyde was sent packing.

And what's next? Are you going to say Coach should have been out there on the floor moving the hands of his capable "score first" PG to make sure passes were going to his under performing SF as requested ? There's a reason "teach first" coaches burn out so fast in the NBA. It doesn't work when you try to teach hyper athletic men like you teach middle schoolers.

Cavs offense sucked last year because there wasn't enough play making or shooting once Rubio & Sexton went down. The coach can't go out there and space the floor when the only shooter he has left is also his primary ball handler. So blame the "creativity" of the coach all you want, but the NBA is a talent driven league and "the plays" are not heavily scripted football plays, they are suggestions to grown men who at times have strong opinions about their teammates' ability. Piss off your players and they stop listening to your suggestions.

Edit : typos

It's not just about teaching... It's about drawing plays to get the right players to the right spots. Okoro and Mobley standing in the corners is all the proof I really need.

We still had quite a bit of shooting, Sexton and Rubio weren't really spot up shooters. But our head coach was determined to play lineups with Okoro, Mobley and Jarrett Allen when we had guys like Cedi and Windler on the bench. But again, the motion in general to get guys open shots was suspect at best. Also, even when Goodwin was playing well, JBB still decided to pull him for Rondo when the guy was back. Just seems very stupid to me. The point of a coach is to coach the players to improve and to create plays that use their skills appropriately... I don't know what you think their primary role is, but clearly we have a different definition. Heck, if being a coach means high fiving the players and just being there to not call a challenge, I'll take the job.

Wesley is bringing the ball up on the first 4-5 possessions and guarding Sharife Cooper in this game against the Hawks that just started.

In 2 of the first 4 possessions, Branham has had catch and shoot offensive sets similar to what we were doing with Ochai yesterday. Didnt even take a single dribble before launching both. You can tell he's been told to do work before the ball finds him and work on going up once it gets there.

Kill two birds with one stone having Wesley initiating and Branham catching and shooting

The Spurs have ALWAYS been in another league with developing guys weaknesses

You could say that... I could also counter by saying that Wesley is leading summer league in shot attempts per game despite only shooting 30% from the field, and this type of no holds barred ball hogging isn't going to serve him well in any sort of realistic NBA role for a guy with his talent level.

I would ask how is that a counter for what I typed, which was an observation of how they came out with a initiative to make Wesley initiate offense for others and Branham take catch and shoot shots within the flow of a offense?
