Why not Cox *and* Campbell?
That's a lot of money for guys who might not be perfect fits.

I'll take just Fletcher Cox. Under Jim Schwartz, he was one of the best 3-techs of the modern era. Hopefully he can mean more to this team than Willie McGinnest meant to the Crennel teams.

Regardless, I think the Browns got significantly better today. O's is a really good, ascending player, with a lot of tread left on his tires and can be explosive. Exactly the type of secondary rusher I'd like to see next to Garrett.

Tomlinson was, for a while, a one man run game stopper. While he slipped a bit last year, he's still really good at defending the rush, which the Browns clearly needed BADLY. Pair him with another interior defensive lineman who is NFL level capable, and the Browns solved their interior problems.

Still need a safety or 2, a nickel corner, and more depth along the D-Line.

Go find a 3-tech that can help show Perrion Winfrey the ropes a bit (and also take all of Winfrey's snaps when he inevitably needs to be disciplined).

Fletcher Cox has all the veteran presence, but with his age and deteriorating skills, he doesn't feel like a Berry move.

I bet Sheldon Rankins is behind door #1, with Calais Campbell, Morgan Fox and Matt Ionaiddis hiding behind the other doors.

I'd love Rankins or Campbell. If they both go elsewhere, I'd think long and hard about the value Fox or Ionaiddis brings to the table, and if that money can be better spent elsewhere.

Rankins is such a good fit for Schwartz. Rankins and Tomlinson would also be such a massive upgrade to the defense compared to what they got last year.

Rankins and Thornhill is my top fits left. Poyer is also up there too. Save WR for 42/trade down pick #1

I think we're going to have to sack up and watch one of Ward/Newsome/Emerson play nickel--even though they're all better as boundary corners. We've just invested too much there already.

I'm kinda hoping we draft Starling Thomas in the 7th. Yeah he's short, but he's a tough son of a bitch and could be a very intriguing nickel corner.

The problem is that Newsome doesn't want that smoke, Denzel is one concussion away from retirement, and Emerson doesn't really fit as a nickel corner.

I'd trade one of the corners for draft comp and get a real nickel corner that wants to tackle.

@Amherstcavsfan anyone specific you want at nickel?

I just looked at PFF's list of available corners and the only nickel that sticks out to me is Bryce Callahan. I didn't watch what he did last year, but when he was in Denver he was one of the best nickels in the league at coverage (not exactly the guy you want in run fits though).

I kinda like Bobby McCain as a low end, replacement level nickel corner.

Not that it matters because he certainly wants to get paid like a safety and not a nickel, but Gardner-Johnson has extensive slot corner experience :chuckle:
Oh most definitely. But he's gonna get a lot of money, more than I think the Browns want to pay a safety.

I love CJGJ. The most elite of all trash talkers too. He's all piss and vinegar.
